Must be Disney marathon weekend!

Stacey sent Phil to Indianapolis so that he can get a taste of winter on her behalf. ;-)

blahblahblah bundled up blahblah.  High today in the 20s.  Not exactly our average high temperature of 51.  Heck, our high temperature today is lower than our normal low temperature for January (30).

It is Disney marathon weekend.  Started today with the 5k in feels like the 20s weather, the 10 k Friday will be in the 40s, HM Saturday upper 40's to start/60's at the end and the marathon Sunday 50s into the 70s.  I know the marathon people wish the pattern was reversed!  I also know a number of people doing all 4 races (the Dopey challenge).  I think they are all nuts!!

I know it is.  I still remember the snow/sleet event of 2010. It was all and I was expecting -- not ice on the roads at the water stations!

ha, I ran that weekend too!  I did the HM though and we were sleeted on.  Crazy stuff for Florida!

The Dopey is on my  bucket list.... I guess we'll see if I still feel that way after my first marathon in May

The Dopey is on our bucket list too - as we've agreed that 2016 is a no IM distance year, it might just be in the cards...

I guess I'll have to put you two (three?) on the "you guys are nuts" list too!

DS2 and I were thinking 2016 or 2017. Probably have to wait for 2017 though. I'm sure the sign up for 2016 will be upon us quickly and I should prolly oughtta finish a marathon first...

Having trouble getting my stuffed up brain to focus on the bank records I'm looking at so..... let's talk about training...

I'm thinking I'll do the dm today. That way if I hack up a lung or pass out I won't be a mile and a half from my car/house/office (because these things always happen at the furthest distance from home base). I'm thinkin' the gym might be full though, and the weather is pretty nice today...

I always pick outside over the gym, but if you really think you may crash and burn maybe you shouldn't do either!

Well I feel*mostly* pretty good. Once in a while I'll start coughing but not too bad. I suppose I'd know pretty quickly in to a run whether the lungs will tolerate it or not. I brought 3 sets of clothes 1) inside 2) outside warm 3) outside cold

I will always pick outside, but there are some days when it's just better, safer and smarter to be inside... like today!  Temps are dropping here and it's supposed to start with the freezing rain/sleet by the time I'm done work.

Cold+sleet+the fact that I'm a wimp = treadmill!

I did my 20 minute TT for coach today, for a total workout of 70 minutes, right, Erin ? Later I will go against desires and run inside on my friend's treadmill. There is a wind chill advisory, we had wind chills of -10 last night. Later still, I have hockey practice, a very busy day indeed!Good news, Dad and I will be getting outta here sooner than expected! Sorry for the formatting, I'm on my tablet.

Wow, you're a busy girl!

Glad you could be with your dad for his first treatment. You'll be able to guide the others through what to expect and I'm sure it's a comfort for Dad.

x2

Glad he's getting out early! Overachiever

It's so important for family to just be there with them.  Happy for him (and you) that you're able to!

Matt

x eleventy billion!

x2 x eleventy billion!!

Can't top x2 x eleventy billion, so I'll just say your dad is so fortunate to have such a loving, supportive, and available daughter.  This will (already has been) be a tough journey for all of you.  I hope that knowing he's not in it alone is a huge comfort for your dad.  And I hope that knowing you're not in it alone is a comfort for you too.  (((Hugs))

NOW, run that treadmill into the ground and whack the heck out of that puck!!    You rock, Melanie, you really do.

A day of blessings:

1. I ran 4 miles at a 9:35 pace. For a 10:30-11:30 min/miler, I'm AMAZED! I'm sure the cold for SC weather helped.

2. My husband, who is a professional caddie, met his new boss for this season. We're excited about the possibilities for a good year.

I watched a few runners outside today while driving around. They did NOT look like they were having fun in the 7F temp and snow. It looked more like a shuffle. I will take a treadmill while listening to a book over busting my butt on some ice.

I had fun in those exact conditions tonight, but yeah, it would get old doing that every time.

Alrighty, Mighty Mad Manatees!  This week's tally is done and here are the results, reported in terms of % of successful days since not everybody started on day 1.  If anybody has any ideas for better ways to report, I'm open to suggestions.

  • 100% - 16 people
  • 87.5% - 5 people

We're doing great, folks.  We're over a quarter of the way through the month and there's lots of good stuff in your logs.  Just keep swimming, Manatees, just keep swimming (and biking and running and stretching and lifting and mowing and vacuuming and all the other stuff you do)!!

In response to the TR posts, can someone break it down for me?

Thanks.

Matt

lol same. And then my follow up questions would be:

A. Can this be done on a beach cruiser or whilst casually riding to happy hour or will that drag the team down?

Trainerroad is a program that takes feedback from ANT+ Sensors (speed, cadence, power, etc) and gives a head up to display showing feedback as you progress through a workout.  There are all kinds of workouts that are based on your FTP, so your targets for each interval of a given workout change as your FTP does.
For example here's a readout from my last TR ride:
http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/1442496-Sufferfest-Fight-Club

The whole interface is very well done, but the added draw is for those without powermeters you can get a virtual power number based on a curve programmed by the TR staff.  Most trainers are supported.  This gives people who have never ridden with power an awesome introduction on what riding with power is like.  This was a huge plus for me.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't believe I qualify

That data you posted is really interesting, though. And that is coming from a non-data person.

You can actually put a beach cruiser on a trainer.

So much awesomeness in here!  Congrats to everyone who is having training PR's, those are great!  Cold weather peeps, stay warm.  Yanti, that kitty is awfully cute.  I am not surprised he found his way to your door.  He is a survivor.  Melanie, so glad you were with your dad for his first treatment.  It's a tough haul for everyone involved.  I am sure your dad really appreciates you being there for him.  Robin, I am going to be in Disneyland in Feb with my SO, my mom, my bro, SIL and their 3 kids.  I am beyond excited and I will be happy to have an ice cream for you.  I know my SO will as well, because she has a problem with ice cream.  Like goes grocery shopping and comes home with bags full "cause it was on sale".

Happy Friday eve everyone!

I would be in for being a part of this, but I believe that taking a day off is important.  So, I'll never hit 100%, but I'll consistently do 6/7.

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
