![]() DougRob - 2012-01-04 5:22 PM Jatne: Waiting to do the HIM next year is a good idea. This is my 4th season and I am going to do my first full IM at the end of it. The first year was sprints and one olympic. 2nd year was the sprints, 2 olympics and 1 half. 3rd year was mostly the same. So here we are. We are not all the same. we have different strengths and weaknesses and we develop at different rates. It takes time to build the base needed to do the longer distances and a lot of the base is built doind long slow distance. It takes time. Doing the HIM next year gives you that time, You made a wise choice. What I do , or anyone else does this year should not influence anyone else here. Some MG peeps are doing ultras. I will never do that. Looking at logs from last year I cannot imagine running 2800 miles in a year. Suzy, I really hope Paul goes to Florida too. I look forward to meeting both of you. Is there anyway we can get others from the MG to come on down for the party?
Is this the same person that said they would NEVER do an IM? The same person who is in serious IM training mode for November? I learned when I had kids to "never say never". |

![]() Kicking off 2012...only 5 days late. Loved Tampa, weather was absolutley beautiful (shorts on the beach perfect). But the last two weeks have been a whirlwind. Now the kids are back to school, hubby is back to work, the decorations have been taken down and put away, the house is clean and back in order. Now I can calmly breathe. Let the training begin. Happy New Year MG!

But this time I mean it. Ultra hold no attraction for me. Now I could probably convinced to ride another 24 hour bike marathon again. It has been 32 years since my last one and I am just about recovered from it. |

HIM at Beach to Battleship. I think the timing will be much better for me. I've found that cold morning swims and late night trainer rides are too much w/ everything else in my life. More daylight and warmer temps will allow me to squuze more in w/o driving myself crazy. - I also have a secret Feb. goal but I will only share that after the fact. :-) Good luck Kim - the Goofy weekend is an awesome experience. I honestly wish I was running it again this year! Can't wait to see the Mickey pics. I could never run in costume.
She'll be happy if she see's the running Cinderella from last year ; )

It was a good one! Thank goodness she was faster than us or I'd have to make sure he didn't trip over anything while running since his eyes were focused elsewhere. As far as the ears, can you attach them to a running hat? If not, you might be able to find a running hat w/ ears at the expo. They sell all sorts of things there.

Also, if you want to buy anything race related, buy it before the race, the selection they had at the race site was pretty limited. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sam - you're racing B2B half?!?!? Sorry if I missed this earlier. That's awesome. We'll be there to cheer a friend that's doing the full so my Doug and I will give and extra shout out to you as well. I know the course too if you have any questions - although Chet probably had a much better experience than I did. BTW, you'll love the swim. As long as they get the current right it is the easiest swim there is. Just jump in and go with the current. My time for the full was 1 hour and you know that wasn't my mad Kyla-like swimming skills coming out |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Our treadmill died last night - cracked deck. So we are looking for a new one. Anyone got any recommendations? 2 people run on it regularly so need a decent one. This one is a Nordictrac that we got in 2007 and had 2700 miles on it so I feel like we got our money's worth. Called about getting it repaired but price was getting too close to a new one to justify for a 5 year old machine. What do you have that you like??? Thanks! |

Wee bit of off-season weight? $$~1k we bought the nordictrack commercial Z or something like that. Its a pretty good treadmill. Michelle runs on it alot more that I do though. I just paint baseboards. Edited by TrevorC 2012-01-05 4:18 PM |

Called about getting it repaired but price was getting too close to a new one to justify for a 5 year old machine. What do you have that you like??? Thanks! Precor 9.31. It is the lowest end model so not a lot of fancy prorams, but it'll take you to a 5:00/mile pace and 15% elevation. It also has a fairly long and wide belt so that there is little risk of falling off. And no Fatty, that is not something I worry about!! We have this ancient Cybex at our house in MInocqua and it is miniscule in comparison, but that thing has lasted for over fifteen years. Top of the line is Woodway which is made down by where Dineen lives. Edited by SSMinnow 2012-01-05 5:10 PM |

We have a Sole S77, about 9 years old and still going strong. I've replaced the belt one time and the main computer board once - parts from Sole weren't that expensive. The brand itself is pretty pricey but I think the quality is a match. The deck on ours provides a really comfy ride. |

And is it wrong that I like Katy Perry's music, I am so dorky! OMG, Kim, that is funny. I HATE that Rihanna song. With a passion. Like plug-my-ears-can't-change-the-station-fast-enough hate it -- and I like most music. I still love you, though! xoxo Katy Perry is very fun music. I'd love to have some of it on my mp3 player, but sadly my kids listen to pop radio and ALL of her stuff is way over-played and I would just FF it if it came up on my mp3s!! Same with Lady Gaga and anything else poppy and somewhat current. No worries, though -- I tend to like more alternative stuff anyway. Whenever music comes up, I give my usual plug for the Foo Fighters. They have a way of taking me to The Next Level almost every time I hear them. Love love love their music for anything, but for working out they are particularly special. I listen to the radio mostly when I work out -- that keeps me modern but gives me fun trips to the past as well. I have 3 music stations programmed in, plus NPR and our local talk radio station. I just switch around depending on my moods and also try to avoid commercials. I keep about 200 songs loaded on the mp3 and will tap into that if the radio lets me down. It has everything from Grateful Dead to Billy Joel to Madonna to Dave Matthews to Carly Simon to Green Day, with a heavy dose of the Foos as well. I do need to swap in/out some tunes on that list, however, as I don't have the latest Foo Fighters album loaded up and I also wore out the welcome on some old favorites during the cruise when I listened strictly to mp3s. |
