I got my GREEN CARD receipt in the mail yesterday. Just meants my appointment for biometrics is on it's way. Usually doesn't take very long here for some reason. This will be my THIRD green card (Thanks to the bastards that stole my last one).  Then hopefully I'm jetting off to Scotland 2nd week April.   Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?  Did I mention I hate flying?

Congrats!!  What part of Scotland are you from and what part will you be visiting?  I'm asking because my great-grandmother immigrated here from Scotland and someday I'm hoping to visit the area where she was from, Aberdeenshire, and maybe do a little geneology/tracking down any living family members if they are still in the area.

Just south of Glasgow.  Town called East Kilbride.  I miss it A LOT but everyone keeps telling me you're not missing a thing. But I do.

Can I just say that the Bootcamp class was AWESOME!!!!!  So different from the one I usually take on Thursday evenings.  Cannot feel my arse cheeks. Therefor they do not exist? Right?

It's snowing again here in the midwest and temps in the negatives again tomorrow! Ugh I hate winter!

So my obvious solution - I need to move. Where should I move to? Somewhere warm and sunny all year round!

It's funny but since I got smashed on my ride last Sunday my legs are still really tired!

All week they've felt heavy and this morning they felt tired even though I didn't push any hills or anything. I looked back at my Strava file form last Sunday and my HR was in Z2 for 35% of the ride, Z3 for 36% and Z4 for 28% or 44mins (for me strava Z4 is HR 160-177).

That Z4 figure is something I would normally completely avoid if I was out doing a long ride so do you think 44mins of it is enough to smash me for the rest of the week???

I'm going to be taking a ski/snowboarding trip to a bunny hill of a place in Indiana on Sunday.  The unfortunate thing is that will probably kill the three hour brick workout I have scheduled. Hmmm... maybe if I wake up early and get the run portion in that will be ok. What do you think?

I drank SO much pool water tonight at masters.  It was stroke night, and I struggled my way through it.  My stomach is still not fully recovered from it yet.  Still feels, um, sloshy.

Does anybody have a good weight loss method that INCLUDES carbs? I've done the South Beach and lost 32 pounds in four weeks back in 2008 but I started it again and I feel incredibly flat and tired.
Maybe one that has moderate level of whole grains or starches, IDK... I really need to drop back down to 158/160lbs, now at 191

David, I can't comment on the zones, or heart rate or a whole lot of other stuff, but I will say that after a rough day, I need to recover. I see you have nothing logged for the next day, then it looks like you were right back at it. My questions would center on nutrition (was it normal?), activity (how was the next day?) and rest (did you get a normal amount or need more the next day?). The biggest issue I've found is hydration during and after the ride. I have had it take a few days after a brutal session before I was back to normal. Some folks will probably look at salt as well. How hot was it on the ride? How were you sweating (normal, more, less)? And did you notice anything with your urine (color differences)?

The biggest thing I learned from one of those days was the importance of hydration/nutrition before, during and after. The lesson sucked, but I sure won't forget it. I doubt you will either

Now I wait for Janyne, Ben, Yanti, Marc and others that are much better at this stuff to give you their opinions (which hold a lot more credibility).

Have you looked at racing weight by Matt Fitzgerald? It gives you a plan to identify your ideal race weight and steps to improve your diet quality to half acheive it. Icarbs are definitely allowed. I jus started reading it and find it very interesting.

Sure. I'm a vegetarian edging toward vegan.  It's a lifestyle more than a diet.

But a note on carbs, carbohydrates aren't bad.  Stay away from the simple sugars.  That makes sense, right?  Less candy and sweets.  Eat complex carbohydrates found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and gain all the disease fighting benefits they bring.

I am more flexitarian leaning towards vegetarian.....I would love the vegetarian/ vegan folks to share some recipes cause I am running into a rut with them.

Thanks Chris, yes I didn't drink enough and it was 31celcius (88F) by the end of the ride. I'm quite used to the heat but I think the prolonged bout of threshold work at the end has really knocked my leg muscles about.

I think I'll just stick to my cruisy z2 rides for the rest of this month. I've got an ocean swim in a couple of weeks (Noosa Swim 2km) so I should be swimming a bit more anyway.
