Quite a few blaming it on the Power Bar Perform, having to drink it for the same reason as Chris, they ran out of water. interesting in the sense that its typical slowtwitch bullsh+t that for some reason people quote and take for gospel? I AGREE! where do you see quite a few? So I always over-use my adjectives, should have left it at a few instead of quite. As far as people vomiting, lots of races happen but first time I have seen a specific post on it. Also, if you think about it, having to drink anything with calories vs. water could cause you to throw up if you went over your planned calories. I think is the normal cause of stomach issues in an IM isn't it. (too many calories). all in all, pretty pi$$ poor to run out of water, that's something they do in local sprints not a race you pay nearly 600 bucks to do. just being an a$$, sorry. :-) seriously, i'm still amazed they ran out of it. unreal!!!!! It's ok, I know you like scientific facts and I like rumor-mongering, that's why I think a lot of posts are interesting. Maybe not always true, but interesting none-the-less. No idea whether this pertains to IM LOU or not, but last year there were many more people that were complaining of throwing up than past years. While it was hot and that can cause digestion issues, many blamed it on the water quality of Lake Monona. It was a very hot summer and we battled bacteria levels in the lake right up to race day. By some "Miracle" they were fine on race day. If you swallow water swimming (and I do), it's easy to see how you could pick up some bad bugs that affect you later on, from both ends. Not sure if there is science behind it, but one of the reasons I am OWSing so much is to get my body used to all the "crap" in the water. Crazy, I know, but hopefully it will serve me well on race day. Signed, The girl who drinks at least a quarter cup of the lake each times she swims! And there was that dead body. really. The algae bloom had the lake CLOSED up until the race.....officials suggested a 'quick rinse' as the athletes exit the water. Wasn't happening! However, I didn't get sick. Must have dead-body-immunity! LOL - snorted out wine at Suzy's comment, and then couldn't believe how long it took the guys to chime in. Reflexes slowing in the heat??? Hope everyone has a great weekend. Doing 40 miles to a winery tomorrow, catching a ride home, and having a BBQ with IMAZ - to - be buddies!!! Long run on Sunday, with the youngest (who has his first cross-country meet Weds-yea, Zach!)....and then we're racing next weekend! I'm doing a 10k, Jeff's doing an Oly and Zach's trying to get back his age-group title in the sprint (he won when he was 12)! Edited by velcromom 2010-09-03 10:50 PM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello all! Just wanted to check in. Guilty to say that I haven't even glanced at the MG in a week or so. Work as unfortunately taken over my life (and not in a good way, but I don't have a choice right now). All I can think about everyday while stressed at work is hurrying home to be with Avery and Kim. I am definitely motivated more by family than work, so things are stressful there. You didn't need to hear all this, what I wanted you to hear was that I think about you guys everyday! I just don't have the "balance" to get online and hang out with my friends! Don't write me off yet! I will fight tooth and nail to get back into a routine of banter, and laughter soon! Suzy- Did you really only know who Kyla, and Tracy were in the picture? Wow!? Tracy- The guys in the capris- One was slightly overweight with a pink shirt? The other had running shoes on with capris!! WHAT THE HELL! You are just solidifying everyone's thoughts about capris. UGH!! Suzy- Yes back to you! I have been a lot about you that last couple weeks! Big race coming up! You are going to do so well! I can't wait to hear all about your success when you are finished crushing the course! Ryan and I are still discussing the possibility of going to Vegas to partake in the festivity. Don't count us out.... Maybe Kyla will fly down with us? Kyla- If you every want company on your long runs, just let me (or Ryan) know. We won't leave you and would love to join you!! BY THE WAY--- Avery ROCKS!!! Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did a triple brick today. Each brick is supposed to be done harder than the last. Rode 17 miles in the first hour, then ran 2.3 miless in 20 minutes. Next ride was 19.75 miles and then run 2.37 miles running. Finished with 20.02 miles riding and 2.45 miles running. GLAD that is over. Now I just have to get through about 10 miles tomorrow in 90 miuntes of running. I think my coach has a weird idea about Labor day weekend (yeah I have 3000 yds to do on Monday!) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Suzy, I feel like I felt fatigued until just 1-2 days before the race, seriously!! Not overly sore, but that fatigue never went away for me. I never had "taper madness." Good that you are in touch with Steve and follow his lead. I didn't train nearly to your level in terms of distance or intensity... I'm not sure anyone here has!! Rest up!! I've been thinking a lot about you. So close! Good thing I'm free next Sunday and can spend the day following you online! Also love that you are in a time zone that lets me start my day by seeing how your swim went, yes, past tense, WENT. Cuz you should be DONE with that bad boy by the time I wake up cuz Sundays are my day off! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey people. How's everyone doing. I wasn't able to race yesterday, my back wasn't good enough. I did go out to the races though and acted as the unofficial photographer for the club. I got some really good pictures. I'm not too sorry I couldn't race. It was only 13 C(55F) windy and raining. That was a drop in temp from mid 30's (90F) all week. They canceled the swim and made the sprint and tri-a-tri into duathlons. Had some good results from the club racers. I haven't had the opportunity to be a spectator before and it has added to my overall experience as a triathlete. Overall it was a good day. This was my last race of the year and I am going to lay off training for a few weeks and let all those nagging little aches and pains recover so I can start out fresh and have a great year next year. Sorry I haven't contributed much over the last session here but I will be tying to get back on more often again and reconnect with all my MG buddies. Edited by Redknight 2010-09-05 5:41 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Suzy believe it or not taper is almost the worst part of the whole training program. Your body feels tired, run down, and weak.... It is your body just working itself out and refueling itself! Have no fear.... Edited by swbkrun 2010-09-05 8:15 AM |

Suzy~ Since I just went through it too, I'll echo Kyla's comments. I never felt good until a day or two before the race. My workouts were shorter, but some were pretty intense. For me, the short, intense workouts kind of made my legs a little sore, but the longer, slower workouts made my legs tired. Race week I was very concerned because I felt like my legs were not ready, but come race day, I was fully charged and ready to go. Read what you sent to me and trust your coach. You will be ready.
