Oooooooh....Those are really nice! Definitely no rainy runs in them yet. They're not quite as colorful as your arm, but a pretty close second

So, it turns out my coach is Starkowicz's coach.  That probably explains the extra bike work I'm doing.

1:58:46 at your next HIM or bust. He lives one town over from me, though I've never seen him out riding. Think he travels around for that. Although interestingly enough, did see him volunteering at a local running event. So right after lighting up Rev3 FL, IMFL, and IMAZ he was out there on holiday getting stuff ready and directing some of the course.

I've never had long training runs. I don't care for idea of Gu after Waffle after Gu, and these seem simple to try. Time to experiment http://www.menshealth.com/fitness/best-running-fuels?cm_mmc=Twitter...

Erin, I used raisins for my first long training runs when I trained for a marathon.  Worked great.  Marshmallows sound fun, but I think would be hard to choke down.  Maybe the mini kind....

Janyne, thanks for posting the link to the black bean soup in your log.  I threw it in my crock pot today and it is delicious!  Had some crackers that I made in my dehydrator with it.  Mmmmmmmmmm.

Recently, on my long runs, I've been taking Bounty Bars by Mars. I don't know if you have them in the US, or whether they are called something different. They are little bars of shredded coconut encased in chocolate. I find them easy to eat whilst jogging because the coconut makes them moist. Packed full of calories with a good mix of carbs, proteins and fats. I don't know how they be in the heat you get, but they work for me and don't melt even when close to my body. For savoury, I carry a couple of sticks if peperami.

I can't believe I'm saying this cause I'm not really a pink person but I love your new shoes Jo they are very cool!

I finally managed to track down our race splits for our team HIM on Sunday and I am stoked! My swim time was 37 minutes flat. This is 8 minutes faster than my goal time and 3 minutes faster than my super secret "ain't gonna talk about in case I embarrass myself" goal.

It's AMAZING what a favourable current and a wetsuit will do for you !

Ann-Marie, what did you think of the bike course at Rev3? I heard that they were able to create a headwind no matter what direction you went

The wind was brutal, but I did think with all the turns we were able to get some relief and some tail wind at times. I thought the bigger issue was the condition of the roads. Either the county has a lot of poorly paved/maintained roads or REV3 picked the worse there was! I know at least 3 people who flatted and there were a few times I was almost thrown from the bike!

Yeah, I don't doubt it. When I saw the route I was a bit concerned about that. Roads in this area are junk.

I have been doing 1 power bar chew every other mile starting at mile 2.  When I need a break from these I take a bite from a bonk bar.  Seems to work far=irly well.

It is apparent that the training cycle has been tough on you, but you have been tougher! And your decision is really cool, so thus:

You are AWESOME!

I found an interesting blog. Curious what others (especially those more medically inclined) think of this or if you've read about it before. Read it all if you open it...I found some of my questions answered at the end. http://athleticmedicine.wordpress.com/2013/11/07/why-ice-and-anti-i...

Near the end of one of my long runs, I noticed my left hip aching. There was a slight pop with each step. The hip was sore for 2 days after the run.
