HillSlugger - 2011-05-13 9:29 AM How well marked will the turns be, or will there be someone at every turn directing people?

Turns for what?  The bike or the run?  Bike is pretty well marked and people will be there.  The run course is small enough that you won't be too lost.

I know the bike route, so no worries there.

On the run, I don't want to be lost at all! I don't have to worry that I'll be out at front with nobody to follow but I'd hate to find myself in a gap and make a wrong turn. Now that I know the first left away from the lake path, my only concern is up in the neighborhood.

I've always been in a pack in the run, but that said, the volunteers are plentiful so I'm sure you won't miss a turn.

You won't miss a turn on the run. The course is very well marked and there will be plenty of volunteers.

Well the forecast has gone from scattered showers, to cloudy and high of 85. Might get a bit toasty on the run course...

Just keep an eye on that low temp. Depending on your wave start, should be in the low 60's ... perfect to start the swim. I guess if I had a choice between a wet bike or warmer run, I'd take the warm run.

Good luck.

I agree the run is going to be a little warm, but finally a dry bike will allow me to really push the pace and see what I can turn over.

Hopefully now its not too breezy especially on the back end of the course.

See, that would convince me!

I just got an email from my tri club looking for volunteers and I responded that I would, so odds are I'll be doing that too.

Columbia was my first race and I had no idea what I was in for. My advice is just have fun!! The goal after finishing is to be sure that you'll want to do another race. Get this one under your belt and then you'll have plenty of other races to stress over your fitness, times, etc.

Good luck and welcome to BT

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I am psyched and scared at the same time!

eyeofthetiger2007 - 2011-05-11 8:48 AM Columbia is one of the best races to do for your first tri! The volunteers are wonderful, it is a lot of fun, and those competing cover the whole range of levels from pro to beginners. Nevertheless everyone cheers for everyone else. Yes, the course is a bit more challenging than other tris with a few inclines/hills but that just makes you want to do more tris once you finish.

Thanks so much. I am looking forward to it. I did  1700m in open water with my coach this morning and it went well. If I can avoid panic and get to land I feel like I will be ok. (Not great, but ok). Also, I really need to not get a flat on the bike as I have only watched videos of how to change the tire. HAHAHAHAHA! You guys and gals are a real inspiration. Thanks again.

I wore a sleeveless wetsuit last year.  You should be fine. Last I heard it was 70.

If I throw you a rope from the bottom of the hill, can you pull me up?
