LOL There is some serious competition on this challenge. It's like practically impossible for me to 'win' this but it sure keeps me accountable and motivated to watch the numbers increase each week. Grand Buddah of Brrrrrrr... has a nice frosty ring to it. |

This will help me stay motivated to continue my commute through the winter. Some days...it's pretty hard to get bundled up. ?? That is the worst part of winter training - the 10 or so minutes it takes to bundle up and then undress when you are done - but the looks you get from others riding your bike in zero degree weather makes it all worth while yeah, sort of reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW4IZ0Flh3M |

Expert 1145 Ann Arbor, MI | Subject: RE: Crappy Winter Weather Challenge 2011-2012 Oh no! The 10 day forecast still shows highs in the mid-50s and lows in the mid-30s. Might have to rely on early morning bike rides and (to crib a Cure lyric) "prayers for rain" to get any points. Does make for perfect running weather though. |

Just got my name on the list... sort of tricky signing in and out of my google account but finally got it. Anybody on FB? I am on there more than BT so may be a great way to motivate each other. I usually check in on FB a couple times a day. You can look for Lenny Kersten. |

Grand Buddah of Brrrrrrr... has a nice frosty ring to it. I live over in Sault Ste Marie MI and my runand bike routes take me around the airport or along the Saint Mary's River, so I get lots of point for wind. I also ride bike year round to and from work makes for some easy points. |

Extreme Veteran 532 Northampton, UK | Subject: RE: Crappy Winter Weather Challenge 2011-2012 Added my name to the list again, though I doubt it will be cold/snow enough here in London to compete (just like last year), though we've been having winds of 30-40mph the last few days! Of course, the winds will drop and the temperatures won't just as soon as the 1st rolls around. |

Veteran 418 , Louisiana | Subject: RE: Crappy Winter Weather Challenge 2011-2012 Count me in! I found this challenge too late last year to join, but this time I'm on the ball and super excited to get started. Quick questions, is the suckitude score what goes on the first page of the spreadsheet? And do all outdoor activities count (like snowboarding and such)? Or are tri-related things the only ones? Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Crappy Winter Weather Challenge 2011-2012 35 on my run tonight, but it was clear and still. The run last night at 44 with 16 mph sustained and 22 mph wind gusts was far worse. I have a running in cold weather question -- what do you do about hydration? Do you change much from regular weather running? For example, I ran 6.25 miles tonight with no water. I did not feel thirsty and when I got home, I drank only 3-4 oz of water and felt fine. I sweated (?? is that the proper verb form?) only a very little, but I did still sweat. I'm thinking the 6-7 mile range is probably the limit I should run without hydration? Remember, I am slow, so the 6.25 miles tonight took me 70 minutes. A 10-12 mile run will take me two hours. Bring water? Don't worry about it? Plan a water stop -- and if so, at what point? |

It would depend on the person. I usually don't carry water unless it is over 13 miles when it is colder. |

If I plan to run over 6, I usually carry water. I'm slow too so after it gets to over an hour, I carry hydration. HOWEVER, everything changes in the dead of winter. I usually don't run more than 5-6 miles simply because it's cold here in the dead of winter and teens or single digits with potentially zero to subzero wind chills would likely freeze any water within a short while anyhow. LOL I suppose if I were training for a long distance early in the spring, then I'd carry h2o for long distances. We still become dehydrated in the cold and I for one SWEAT ... I mean SWEAT!!! No glowing for this chick...it's sweat! LOL So hydrate...before, after or during if you need to. |

Extreme Veteran 330 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Crappy Winter Weather Challenge 2011-2012 This will be great incentive to make the jump into cold weather running right away. I just added my name to the SS - so glad I popped in here today to see what's going on! It's still in the 60's this week (and probably next) but I know I'll have enough opportunities after that For now - I'm off to enjoy a short run on this beautiful day! Renee |

Where in Michigan? I am curious what type of in-state competition I will be having. Grand Rapids, you have nothing to worry about. Besides I actually really like the trainer so most of my suck will be running |

I have found I can get away with far less water on a cold day. If it is dark or overcast than even less. I had one particularly epic 30 km run I did last year at my marathon pace with no water and 3 gels. I stupidly tried to repeat that during the summer. |
