Terps421 - 2010-09-19 6:06 AM I ran the West. MD Half Marathon yesterday & came in 1st OVERALL woman.  I have never won an entire race.  I've been 1st Master and AG but never overall.  The last 2 miles felt really good being in the lead. My daughter Katie ran her 2nd race ever and came in 1st for the 5K. It was a sweet.

I did not wear my garmin, I just tried to run by feel.  I felt like I could have run a lot faster most of the race too but did not want to fade so I kept my pace steady. Pacing is something I have to really work on in all 3 events.

Linda

Awesome job, Linda! Congratulations!! Totally deserved. Must have been that "easy 10" you did the day before that set your legs up to run so fast, ha ha!! And congratulations to Katie as well. She clearly got your running genes!!

Ha!! I have no choice but to stay in my AG! Like it matters to YOU, miss speedy-legs!!!

That said... as I went to sleep last night, I reflected that at age 42, I ran PRs for both the marathon and half marathon and also completed my first Ironman. I think of how many people consider themselves "washed up" in their 30's and have to laugh. I am filled with wonder by the untapped potential in all of us, and I love "hanging out" with a group of peeps who challenge their bodies and minds every day. I am thankful every day for what my body can do -- even on the "less good" days. Here's to another great year!!! Thanks for all you guys do!!!!!!!!!!!

You are how old?  Ha Happy Birthday!! Have a great day, and go Seahwaks.
I read a quote in this month Triathlete Mag, that said something like "Age is strictly a state of mind" or something like that.
As we get older we can take solice in kicking all the young'ins butts on the course right?

tahrens - 2010-09-18 5:47 PM Happy news to report about my hubby.   Took another 5 minutes off last years time and took 6th in his age group out of 64.  Last year it was 2nd out of 24 but the race has been entered into a competative series where people get points for doing the international today and the half tomorrow.  Really upped the competition level.  My girlfriend Chris (for those of you who met her) also did great,  3:02 for her first race of the year coming off an injury!!!  I am super proud of them both!!!!
\

Congats to both your hubby and Chris!

Good morning MG!! I just got word from Setup Events regarding the dates for the White Lake Half. It is run on two consecutive weekends. For 2011 they will beMay 7-8May 14-15.So with this added information who is in? (If you can figure that out at this time.) While running with my coach and his wife they recommended trying to secure cabins or rooms at the lodge on the lake. I do not know wat this entails but will look into it. However, these are rustic rooms. Kind of like camp asd I understand it. Otherwise it is not hard to stay at a hotel like the Hampton Inn in Lumberton, NC, which is 30 minutes from the race site.DougP.S. 6 days until Augusta!!!

A humorous tidbit from the desk of our very own Sugar Ahrens...  I discovered I scream the same way whether I'm about to be devoured by a great white shark or if a piece of seaweed touches my foot.

To Linda and daughter ... congrats on a good race and finish

Tracy Congrats to Doug.

Suzy: The Washington Olympic was 4/24 this year so I would expect it would be 4/23 or 4/30 in 2011.

Linda: no decision has been made as to which 1/2 to do. I am open to either one. I think there are better restaurants in the Washington area and the hotels (non-rustic) are closer to the race site there. White Lake is clearer water, but was actually choppier in my limited experience. I ate a great italian restaurant in Washington.

Yeah it doesn't look like there are any bigger hotels in the area.

HAHA, ROFL  I quickly was looking before I left for work, all I saw was the view from their website, and it had 4/5 star reviews I think wherever I was looking.

LOL, where is the nearest Hilton/Marriott?

Where is the nearest Hilton/Marriott - a couple hours away.  I wasn't kidding when I said there really weren't any hotels in the area.  Everything looks like that.  Seriously!
