Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by Asalzwed Alright Darren, I did a little research last night and found out the context of JD's statement. With that, I still firmly stand by my statement, " If JD has prescribed a 13 mile M pace run, and you want to run it as such and you want to follow the workout, then I think you should do just that. He is very specific about paces. Each type of run is training a different "system." So if you want to follow that correctly, do the workout as M pace. With the race simulation bonus of practicing hydrating etc. But if you don't have the self control to not race the HM, I certainly don't think you should sign up for the race. You won't be doing the workout as prescribed AND if you are wishy-washy about actually racing it, you won't be getting any feedback in terms of using your HM finish time to predict your marathon." If you are wanting to really follow JDs plan, see the bold above. I think you said there was a HM 7 weeks out? If you are wanting to get a better evaluation of fitness, I would say go for that unless you can find one even closer to the M. 10Ks aren't bad in terms of predicting (so long as you are doing the training as prescribed) and you can recover more quickly. In fact, I think JD prefers these shorter races.
Ok, bit of a delay coming back to you on this as I was trying to find out where I read something that lead me to the idea of slotting in a HM there. I couldn't find it. If I get you correctly, if I was to do the HM that far out, I would be best to stick to JDs plan and run it at M pace and use it as a simulation. Only if I am able to not race it though ![]() |

Of course, this excludes the used grinds they have available. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by jmkizer I would do this, it would be even better if they have a recommendation and they have had an issue that was handled really successfully.Originally posted by Asalzwed Originally posted by cdban66 OK, a few things and then I'm outta here to get my bike looked at. I think my BB might have another crack in it. I picked a good day to play hooky from work. 1) Adrienne - Do you have a family doctor or someone that you see with any regularity? Establishing a relationship with a doc is one of the things that has helped us get through a major health challenge in our past. Not to get into it too much, but about 22 years ago we went through a long scare that we were completely in the dark about what was going on. Our family doc did a BUNCH of research and pointed us in the right direction. If not for him, we wouldn't have gotten to the specialists that we needed. So, my input is that s medical professional that you are comfortable with is the first step. Once you are comfortable, you will be more apt to listen to him/her about the other stuff. Good Luck. 2) Kate - I truly hope that your whole family is healing and moving in the right direction. I think often of you and yours. 3) TJ - Take care of your teeth, that just sux. I have a doctor that I go to if I am REALLY not well but that happens like once every 3 years, maybe? It's hard to build any kind of relationship with that infrequency. And then, honestly, I want someone who knows at least a little about endurance athletes. I just don't see how anyone has the time to "shop around" and additionally establish a relationship. Ya know? Could you ask your training partner or your coach for recommendations? I think I am much more critical physicians because I work in medicine. There are good ones and bad ones. There are also docs who are very good at the basics, but if something a little far afield comes up, they are quickly over their head or can miss stuff completely. I have learned to do a lot of research, trust my gut, and advocate if I don't feel like I'm getting answers. Salty, in a dream world you could find a GP, FP or Internist who specializes in Sports Med. You absolutely need a sports med doc in your pocket because of the kind of training you do. It would be great if the one you find is particularly well versed in female athletes, as our issues can be considerably different. One possibility might be to check and see who the team doc is for the University Cross Country and Track teams. It might be a good idea to get your iron, especially ferritin levels, checked with some regularity. |

If I am buying a post work out snack I wind up eating it on my way home and tossing the container in my own recycling though. |

Motivation to go run is seriously waning at the moment... I dreamt that I was in Illinois not too far from Chicago and my continuing desperate thought was I HAD to get in touch with you so we could get together! If you're EVER anywhere in the somewhat near vicinity you'd better get in touch with meeeeeee!!! There would be much to do about pressing melons. |

I would have loved to do that one but I had already committed to this 10K! I have friends that will be there. GOOD LUCK! |

None of the ones that I frequent in Chicago (and there are about 17 in a 3 block radius wherever I am - it's glorious) have a separate recycling that I've noticed - however, there may be one in the store that I don't see as I generally grab and go. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by cdban66 Good morning, afternoon, or evening. Or Midnight, depending on your time zone. I hope everyone is good and ready for this weekend. Mine will be filled with work, which is why I took yesterday off and rode with the Big Dogs. Good times. Every Friday one of the bank presidents that I work with sends out a message to his staff, and it is worth sharing with this group for sure: "We are limited by our attitudes. Not our abilities." Pretty thought provoking for me. Enjoy your day, make it a joy! Good morning to you Chris!! I'm looking forward to riding bikes tomorrow with some friends for part of my 100 miler - it'll be nice to have some company! Interesting quote - and thought provoking for me also, thanks for sharing. |

It'll be, like, 11pm and I'll have been waiting for hours and start panicking and call the pastor's house and wake his kids up and scream at them WHERE IS MY MOTHER??? Then she'll waltz (stumble-polka in, they and she are German) in totally wasted around 12:30am and puke everywhere. Karma. Am I a bad person because I snorted aloud in laughter when I read this? Poor Mutti, hope she returns in better condition than you fear, for both your sakes! Edited by melbo55 2013-08-23 10:13 AM |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Survived the fast lane at masters last night. Easier one for them with a base send-off of 1:30/100, but faster for me. About where I should be more often now, but was a little nervous about having the energy with the current bike load. |
