Wow--I guess it is morning in Texas already! Unless they are going to go under 10-11 hours, maybe I can catch them on the finish cam tomorrow AM. Hoping to be up to an easy trainer ride tomorrow, after a week of utter sloth. (Not just laziness/recovery, have been sick--for once, AFTER the race--with yucky sore throat and sinus crap most of the week.)

Now if they could arrange an "IM" with the bike leg cut to 90 km (better yet, 40!), I might be interested in doing it. Think they would still give Kona slots? I might have a prayer if we could just cut the bike leg really, really short! Or, better yet, cancel it.

I saw Sean on the bike but could not get a pic. It is very hot and humid. I'm drenched and I'm just walking. It's going to be a tough marathon today!

Starky has a massive lead off the bike with 3:24. I don't know if anyone will catch him. He started the run 15 minutes ago and the second pro isn't even off the bike

Sean is off the bike, no run splits or T2 time yet.

Monica has passed the 65 mile mark on the bike so she has less than 30 to go.

Go Manatees!  Go!

Sean is out there on the run but the splits are way messed up.  Looks like he's past the 8.8 mile checkpoint though.

Monica has passed mile 76 on the bike.

Keep going!  Keep going!

It looks like Sean got done in 9:52:32, way to go Sean. Great job!

No final times for Monica and I found this:

Important update regarding #IMTX: Due to the severe weather in the Houston area, we have activated our pre-determined safety plan. Athletes have been and are continuing to be stopped at timing mats and directed to the nearest safe shelters (including the library, parking garages, etc.). As athletes cross the timing mats, their race time will be stopped until we are able to restart the race. The original finish-line cut-off time of 11 p.m. will be extended accordingly. We will continue to provide updates as we have them.

Thank you.

It looks like they are back out on course but apparently the weather has wiped out some of the tech used for the live athlete tracker. The last time it was working Monica was at mile 16 of the run.

Thanks everybody! It was a good day. The bike course was smoking fast. I avg about 20W less than I was originally planning (dialed back for the heat) but went faster than I thought I would at the original target watts. The first two laps of the run were brutal. So hot. It started raining just a little bit into the 3rd lap and it saved me. HR dropped 15 Bpm.

The weather thing was a cluster. They told us out time stopped at this timing mat but we were supposed to go to the next aid station to shelter. It was a mile away! So I just kept running. When I got there I tried to get the story and they said they were stopping the clock for an hour. I had 3 miles left. So I did what any manatee would do and I did what I wanted. I didn't stop. Thought I might get DQ'd but doesn't look like it. My 2nd to last split is so long because I was talking to those people for a few minutes before I decided to just keep going. It was hard enough starting up again after only a few minutes, can't imagine waiting an hour! I probably couldn't have run again!

Thanks again!

Congrats on getting in done despite what sounds like an organization (and weather) cluster f... of rather epic proportions. Can't imagine stopping mid-race and then trying to run again an hour later, even at HIM distance, much less full. Many of my races here are during rainy season and even typhoon season and during one we were basically racing an approaching tropical storm. I've been lucky but always wondered what would happen if it hit during the race! Yikes.

Meant to track and maybe catch Manatees on the finish video but I guess overslept and underestimated your speed!

Monica's tracker is on again and looks like she has about four miles left to go--about an hour based on her current pace. But maybe less as the last update was maybe 30 minutes ago. Off to ride the trainer and watch the finish. This is going to feel weird. I haven't done ANYTHING physical all week, unless we count herding kids at work for three days.

The running aspect of an Ironman triathlon is a marathon. Most people take on a marathon as a single event and the training for this uses up a lot of their time. Here are some tips for the run.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
