Felicia, I hope your surgical sites heal up well and quickly.

Joanne, sorry to hear about your Marathon, but glad to hear that you should be able to do the 10k.

Jo, congrats on the long ride, that is awesome!

Chad, I hope your race went well; your friend is lucky to have a friend such as you.

Elesa, very cool about your not-for-profit.  Sounds like a great cause.

Yanti, have you packed your bike?

Jen, I really hope it isn't a stress fracture, but if it is, take care of it.  Two words: Aqua jogging.  Sorry to hear about your other injuries...and I hope your kitty is ok too!

I think that catches me up.

Oh.  And yes, Janyne, I am $600+ poorer... Sealed

Yowza! Those things cost $600!?!?!?! I picked the right sport Smile

Congrats, and have, uhhh fun

I know, right?  This is why I wonder why people don't live off the course--gotta get your money's worth!

Which one are you doing again? Maybe I can come up and spectate. I'll be sure my lawn chair has two cup holders.

Salty - you want to carpool?  I would kill to be part of a Salty Shyte Show road trip!

Oh lordy.  I may have to avoid you both til after the race...There is no way I am racing with a Salty-Skrat induced hangover...

Why not?  Monica and Switch would  Innocent

I would race hungover again if it meant drinking with Salty and Monica, but I am not faching touching alcohol the night before AGN again.  I mean, there's having a beer and then there's having eight beers.

In all honestly, sitting on the sidelines of an IM getting my buzz on and cheering the hell outta some IMers sounds like a fun way to spend a day.  Doing the IM...not so much.

Regarding Starbucks recycling, we have barrels that are always full, never properly sorted and seem to be kind of an afterthought.  I suspect a management issue -- local management doesn't care so it's not handled.

I agree with Salty that the way to be sustainable is to bring your own cup.  I do that if I am having regular coffee but not if I'm getting an espresso drink.

These photos were taken in Raleigh but I've seen the same thing in Cary and other local stores.

Completely agree!

My husband and I started and run a non-profit that is dedicated to teaching sustainability and systems thinking to children.  We do this primarily by taking kids to natural environments, local farms, and some businesses (biodiesel cooperative, local food coop, landfill, water treatment facility) and using teachable moments to encourage this kind of thinking.  It's kind of a two pronged approach--let kids have supervised, unstructured play in lots of different natural environments so they develop a love for nature, and teach them how to think critically and make choices about protecting and caring for the natural environment.  I absolutely do the things that Salty mentioned and for me it's just an extension of the choices I make everyday.  However, for many it is not so automaticand integrated, and it seems that because Starbucks places value in sustainability practices, having recycling available at stores should be a given. :)

You just keep winning my heart over and over!

PS My lil TDI operates on biodiesel. Smile And that's cool and all but my cousin's Tesla blows it out of the water.

PPS Read about what my other cousin is doing with batteries: http://www.aquionenergy.com/

Energy storage is what's up! It's obviously high level, but very important.

Nice on the TDI!  We have a Sprinter that runs biodiesel :)

Those batteries look AWESOME!  When we were designing the house PV we ended up going with grid-intertie because we just couldn't find a feasible battery solution.  This is really great technology, and makes me hopeful we can go gridless in the next five years.

Yes to racing somewhat hungover... HELLZ NO to racing while unsure if I'm still drunk or not.  *urp*

Just be sure to also pace yourself for the buzzy IM watching - you don't want to peak too soon during the race, you'd crash and burn before the finish... I may know this from experience.  Cool

Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach (hadn't been there since I was a kid)

Running on the beach at Seaside

The finish line goes under the stage

I have ran on that beach at Seaside.  I loved it.  At first, I was avoiding the water - but then I decided to just run a straight line.  When the waves crashed and ran up further, I just kept running my straight line.  Sometimes that water was knee deep.  Talk about a workout.  It was one of my favorite runs to date.  I love Seaside.

You are from Portland, no?

Great race, Chad. Keep it up!

Oh yeah, and stop d*ckin' around in transition, dude!

It's obviously not wireless, so I'd have to wrap the cord around the top tube. Not digging that idea Undecided

Any idea if the cable is long enough? Even remotely close? For me it would be worth it, but more to have an idea of the effort than the mileage. Time works quite well for duration. I'm not sure if you're someone who wants to mess with that sort of thing.

No idea, but it looks pretty wrapped up. Might be longer than it seems.

Yes. Where is my "push" really getting me? Is my effort on trainer comparable to what I'm doing on the road? Am I really using it to improve for the road?

Well, bike's on trainer all week anyway. Not going to hurt to try

Good luck with that! *Should* only be tape and/or zip ties to do this. Simple enough, right?

The trainer speed won't really relate exactly to outdoor speed (except by chance), but the idea of a faster speed on the trainer being harder to do than a slower speed there still holds. Trainer Road built up a nice program on this idea to make "virtual" power from it. They just need the user to be fairly particular about a couple things in the setup to help ensure ride to ride consistency. Mainly related to pressure on the tire.

*Also, for the record, unlike my cohorts I did not drink 8 beers or a bottle of wine

running hungover would not work for me - my stomach can't even handle a few cashews without dashing to the cemetery bathrooms - very nice they were too.

In other news manatees - in light of my new found love of Terenzo the Trek, i have signed up for Around the Bay in a Day - an annual event involving rides from 20km to 250km.

I wanted one of the distances that involved a round trip - not start somewhere finish somewhere else and have to get a bus back to the start.

So I have opted for the 100km return route.

20th October!  A week after a half mary I'd forgotten about.

My insanity knows no bounds.

If you are into podcasts

Rich Roll (plant fuelled Ultra runner) interviewed Terenzo Bozzone on his last one...yum.

Vinnie Tortorich has Joe Friel on Wednesday and Phil Maffetone on Friday.

Awesomeness.

Macca pulled out of Penticton 21km into the run - his aim was a zone 2 race.  He claims he wasn't feeling 100% but I actually think this was the plan - go as long as possbile in Z2 - then once this wasn't going to be possible pull the pin.  My 0.2c worth

And for goodness sake Kirsten, HTFU. You ARE Canadian.

I'm Merkin and didn't race with a hangover. If I can handle it, you can

Uhhhh, you are 10 years younger than I. I realize that I only look 30, but alas, I cannot drink that way anymore...Laughing

Ahhhhh you had me fooled!

That was an amazing backdoor brag! I'm impressed! Smile

*Also, for the record, unlike my cohorts I did not drink 8 beers or a bottle of wine

Did you drink more than 8 beers or more than a bottle of wine?

When I wake up and think I need to ride my bike - I don't feel any emotion, when I wake up and think today I get to ride Terenzo hard - well enthusiasm!

Yanti's facebook posts are alarming - stuck in Korea with flights being bumped all over the place - she may make it to the start line....

All typical Yanti fashion - please send good travel vibes her way!
