It's really still in-between seasons, once we all start getting ramped up and racing we get slightly more serious : ) Hope everyone is having a good holiday season start. Rob, we have the only kids in the family so everyone comes to us, makes it a bit easier. I did pick up a Desoto Wetsuit, found one on ST for over 1/2 off what a new one would cost. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jrj0924 - 2009-12-21 7:10 PM Oh hi there! I signed up and then started a new job that takes away my leisure web surfing (the nerve!) but now that the posts are manageable I should be able to keep up ![]() So my issue is with my IT band which is causing pain around the outside of my right knee. Having never been injured before I am finding it difficult to take it easy. I have been trying to run through the pain but then I did a bit of reading and found out I am probably doing more damage. I saw a PA about a month ago and she said I could run through it but I am in a good amount of pain, which doesn't seem right. I think I am going to bite the bullet and seek out some PT. Hopefully I can get back to normal faster then foam rolling on my own. But now I am dealing with the real possibility that I won't be able to run my planned marathon at the end of March. I hope I can at least do a 1/2 marathon but I also don't want to injure myself further and jeopardize my tri season (2 HIMs on the calendar!) Anyone had experience with this? Look at it on the bright side...it is the perfect excuse for being LAZY over the holidays. Seriously I feel your PAIN. Been having ITB issues since a couple weeks before my HIM in Augusta. Had to train and finish the race so I went to get a cortizone shot. Worked great thru the race and a few weeks after, but when I started 6 to 8 mile runs again it started hurting around mile 6. I have taken about 3 weeks off from running. Been rolling it and stretching it a couple times a day. We'll see how that goes. I was planning on really focusing on my running till first of the year, but that plan got sidetracked, so I picked up the swimming a little earlier than planned. My suggestion would be to rest and see your pt. Oh, Those shots hurt, but definitlely worth the pain. WAR EAGLE ... and for those of you that have mascots that don't fly.........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeL7qP_BESA |

It is just what you expect - John drinking beer, Trevor is like the weird uncle from out of town, Chris is posting everything twice, Tracy is flirting with everyone, Doug and Tony are answering weird biking questions, all the rookies are shocked in to quietness (not really) - the only thing of note is that Suzy's got a stress fracture in her foot and is still not allowed to run. I LOVE my children and find it hard not to give them everything plus the 3 sets of grandparents and the only grandkids on our side of the family means an avalanche of toys Christmas morning. I literally just finished cleaning out toys (old, outgrown, broken) and gotten our house back into some sort of liveable shape. And now in 3 days, it will happen again. I'm going to try not to cry. Ok - minor vent/rant/pity party over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and happy holiday. And don't forget my birthday day is Dec. 26. ;-) |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hola! Been busy with holiday stuff and basically sick of being on the puter so now I'm back. Went Christmas shopping yesterday with my niece. For Christmas I bought her a new pair of running shoes. Her goal for the new year is able to run a 5K. She is 17 and overweight and very shy so I am really excited to get her going. I set her up on BT and will download the Couch to 5K training plan for her to start on the 3rd. I'll give you guys a heads up in a couple weeks and ask you to go visit and give her a shout of encouragement. I'm just crossing my fingers that she stays motivated. Love the idea of the online tri. A little nervous now about getting my swim back together. All this talk about form and whatnot however is getting me anxious to get back in the pool which will happen after the new year. Sat an watched a few You Tube videos and now it makes sense. All the time I spent with a coach and I never really understood the "over the barrel" description. I also loved the link to the swim plans. Thanks. Suzy, sooo sorry to hear about the stress fracture. Will they let you aqua jog? If you can handle it mentally I've heard it can really help you keep your run fitness. Reminder Question...does anyone have any info on how soon after starting base training I should get a VO2 test and then how long I should wait before I take another one? Well I better get to work and get stuff done. Hubby decided that we are having a NYE party this year so now that my Christmas list is marked off I have a new list of things to do. |

But they are the only grandkids on both sides of the family so they get a ton of stuff from their grandparents. We typically have to leave stuff at their houses and pick it up on another trip (they both live several hours away). We do the clean out through out the year. Also in some cases, we don't open everything at once. Keep it in the box and open it later when some of the other stuff isn't so exciting any more. The one;s that never get opened go to charity. |

It used to be much worse with us, however, as the price tag has gone up on the toys she wants, the quantity has come down... Now she gets the $100 American Girl doll (just wait John, your girl will want them too) instead of the 4 Littlest Pet Shop play sets... ETA - Why didn't I think of a $100 doll? True, rotating is not a problem I have really, going to experiment some today. Also, I am not overly worried at this point. Last year when I upped my swim days I just got faster by being in the water more, crazy huh? : ) Though my "fast" last year is still pretty darn slow compared to most. Also to clarify when your hand enters the water, are you coming in flat, near the top (like you would normally), then dropping your forearm into what I will call the bad robot dance pose, where your bicep/elbow is high but your forearm and hand are pointing down, then pulling back to the hip? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thick-skinned here and my feelings aren't hurt over the book. And yeah, what I wrote doesn't ruin anything either! But I won't stand for jello in my stocking. Gu in a pinch, maybe, but no artificial colors or HFCS, please!!! :-) Suzy, I'm glad you're only out two weeks... but am very, very sorry about your friend Bob. You are right that things like that jerk us back to reality so fast. Please let us know how he is doing. And yeah -- toy donation is a must. We try to have our kids be a part of it once/twice a year, trying to get them to experience that feeling of GIVING and that other kids don't have what they do. My daughter gets it more than my son (who is older btw) but they both do pretty well with a gentle prod. Anyone here watch "Hoarders" ?? I keep thinking my kids need to see an episode or two of that because nothing motivates me to clean and organize like that show. All that said, I also still sneak in and thin out their toys from time to time when they're at school just because I can't stand the excess and know the things like like/use and don't. Sometimes the cleaning/organizing is a battle I'm just not up to fighting... cuz I just ran 20 miles or biked 75 or something, ya know?! |
