Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-04-24 6:11 PM Quiet group tonight ![]() Hi Fred et.al. lots going on in the group - Elaine - very exciting to start a new venture. I hope you do well. I know it is part of your plan to grow your experience, but you are not charging nearly enough!!! Thomas and Ken - this is a tough time of year to be less than 100%. I hope you get your feet (and shoulder) back underneath you quickly. Ryan - I dream of ever running a sub 39 10k again - that is really running. A very awesome goal. I have enjoyed my share of injuries even though I am pretty light and have a good bit of experience and volume under my belt. My injuries seem to fall in two separate categories - a lot of tendonosis: achilles, hips and now elbow. All completely manageable. My real problem is that I am a klutz: crashes, trips, rolled ankles, cuts, etc. I attract this sort of thing. Kimberly - I hear you with the weight loss. I used to be able to gain and lose at will. Now, not so much - but my brain has not quite figured that out just yet. For me Ironman training and weight loss just do not go together. I am close to race weight, but I know I only have a week or two more to worry about it, after that I will be in the thick of my IM build and know that is the absolutely wrong time to be trying to lose weight. I frankly have been killed at work. All very good stuff, but most other things in life have been back-burnered. There is some serious light at the end of the tunnel though - I have one more week of craziness, and then 15 weeks off from work and I can train/eat/sleep/recover like a pro. Cannot wait. But for now it is all I can do to keep my BT logs up-to-date. |

![]() So, we're going to Disneyland this weekend. Got some free passes an haven't been in years. We have to be in San Diego, just a bit further south, on Sunday, so we're staying in a hotel near the park. This is the first weekend in a long time where I have no workouts scheduled. between that and the gastronomic hell that is the happiest place on earth, I am a ittle worried. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() went on an angry solo ride from a crappy day. Did the local 4 mile TT course and set a new strava KOM averaging 26mph flat, TT bike, no aero gear and a pretty solid wind. I get to this one hill i like to ride and i am struggling to get up, i am like WTF??? turns out the dropout loosened and stuffed the tire into the seat stay....DOH!!!!! Thankfully i carry tools, so i fixed it and was amazed to see that climbing a 9% grade is much easier without a seized wheel. i was litterally going 4 mph up hill, pushing as hard as i could. i was laughing shortly after cursing my stupidity.

Sounds like you should ride angry more often, Rudy! And I am sure the dropout did not loosen; it was instead the massive torque you put on the drive-side axle that twisted it out of alignment. That is how I would tell it anyhow... |

Addendum, if I had 15 weeks off I would drive my family crazy and injure myself permanently from over training lol.Fred D - 2012-04-24 6:11 PM Quiet group tonight ![]() Hi Fred et.al. lots going on in the group - Elaine - very exciting to start a new venture. Since then I have learned that when I am home all I have to do is make sure all the yard work done, house is clean, laundry is done and put away, and dinner is on the table. She doesn't complain so much anymore. And since you asked, we are hiring - what do you know about teaching architecture? Although rumor is you docs make pretty good money - you may not be able to cut it on a teacher's salary...? I probably shouldn't even mention the fact that I will be off next year for eight months for my IM build.... oops - but I think I just did.... |

hahahahaha Is there a prize involved? If so, then I am guessing 11.3-ish miles in. Awesome ride, Rudy - you are indeed an animal! |

hahahahaha You get temperature recorded? Darn it, I knew the 910 was missing something. But BRRR that is cold. We were in the 100's or darn near here for a few days and yesterday was only 91. Oh yeah, I said only. |

![]() | ![]() A bike ride for me today. Going to get it done early and avoid the wind that is scheduled to come on through here. Fred, that makes sense with the pool. I know when I had my ITBS it got so bad it made it all the way to my ankle and where I noticed the ankle pain the most was swimming. Not during the push off but during the kicking. Its weird to think that it could affect you but it definitely did for me. So I am moving to Payson, AZ this weekend, which is basically in the middle of Tonto National Forest. It's a small town, and mostly a vacation area for folks down in Phoenix and what not. Temps rarely make it to 100 there. Lots of trail running and mountain biking in my future. So in May they have a mountain bike race and they have basically two divisions but it is 3 the way they lay it out. Beginners and females and advanced. WTF? I have to ride with the beginners? I am not allowed to do advanced? So basically I would be stuck on the shorter course and backed up behind the beginners as they start the females 1 minute behind them. I think that is the lamest stupidest thing ever. I want to race the longer distance and just cause I am female doesn't mean I am some delicate little thing. Am I just reading too much into this? Seems like a backwards sort of place. When I get there I am going to try and get to the bottom of it and maybe the following year help them change their mind about females and mountain biking |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1:15 trainer ride this morning with some intervals around 90%FTP. I am heading to the pool again this afternoon for a swim. I have to go to the beautiful city of Cleveland for a meeting tomorrow night. Its a 5.5 hour drive for me one-way so not looking forward to that. My daughters 1 yr birthday party is Saturday so hopefully I can fit some workouts in there. Rusty: I dream about a schedule like that. I always thought the college professors worked year round doing "research" haha. I think you have a great gig there in all seriousness. Fred: I think it is worth a shot to see if that will help at this point. You have enough of a base in the pool that one or two weeks out of it will not be much to overcome anyway. Definitely hope it works out. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys! Haven't been super active over the past few days, post call today, but I slept most of the night (weird call karma--but I'll take it). So I have no excuse to not get my planned trainer ride in today! GoT here I come! I'll prob do another 90min ride since I have half an episode to finish from the last ride ![]() |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-04-25 5:55 AMOk, I might have figured out something out with my Achilles injury. It seems to get better with running which is odd, but it definitely gets significantly worse with swimming, which I hadn't really connected until the last week or so.I had been focusing on run breaks during my week which were filled in with swimming as its a bit cold to bike outside in the am. I would swim for 2 days in a row and my achilles would get much more tight and sore. I thought this might relate to inactivity and some tightening (which might still be a part of it)However, I think what is really going on is that when I swim I push off the wall with my flip turn I am putting some big strain on the Achilles. I also think my kick results in a lot of motion in the Achilles region so not helping either.I'm going to try a 1-2 week break from swimming and see what happens.Thoughts? From my own personal experience, it is possible that swimmig is the trigger for your achilles. I had major issues with my ankles when I was swimming before; it got so bad that I had to wear these orthotic straps while I was training (I raced without them) to keep my foot in a relatively fixed plantar flexed and everted position because I had chronic issues with Achilles and peroneal tendonitis. I also had a period of time where I swam on a strap to train hooked up around my waist so that I wouldnt have the constant strain of flip turns adding to my issues. Doesn't bother me anymore, but I'm sure if I started swimming 20hrs a week it would be again. Took me quite a few years after stopping swimming to get some flexibility back in my Achilles. I think it's worth a try to see how you feel with 2 weeks off, that's what I had to do prior to having my braces made. I think I spent a month off swimming and doing all my workouts on a spin bike. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning! Got out for a run this morning - plan called for track intervals but my heel is still a little swollen even though there is no pain and I am running a half marathon with my sister this weekend so i took it easier instead. Swimming tonight. Coach sent out the plan and it has longer sets so endurance work tonight. Kim, that seems crazy about the mountain bike - definitely worth looking into some more. To all those with injuries - keep your chin up!
