That's like aluminum for those of us on this side of the pond

Don't go down that road

I'm all kinds of nervous and hyped.

Looks like all kinds of epic.  I would be very nervous riding in a tight pack when they talk about the potholes to avoid.  Does the peleton stay mainly intact for most of the race or does it string out?  I noticed some of the tires looked like reduced air pressure.  What psi are you thinking about?

There is a series of very similar races in Eastern Washington that has been on my longer term radar.  I can't wait to hear your thoughts after the race.  Good luck and try to be safe.

The race stays together for the most part until the first gravel section which is about 25 miles in.  This section lasts for 7 miles and usually weeds out the guys that are racing from the guys that just want to finish.  I've been told that being in the top 10 heading into this section is critical.  My plan (like many others I'm sure) will be to be in that top 10 without being in the front.

I ran 95 psi when I was doing my gravel testing sunday, and I may stick with that or go down to 90.  I haven't decided, but 95 is definitely the highest I will run.

That looks awesome. I didn't realize your gravel road race was over 100 miles long, crazy! Can't wait to hear about it!

Yeah, this is so awesome Matt. IF I raced bikes, this would be right up my alley!

Yeah the length is part of the challenge.  The critical part of the race is around mile 64 where Blockhouse Hill begins.  That's the hill where riders are seen pushing their bikes up in the video.

I agree Salty.  This race has you written all over it.

It's getting harder and harder to not think about this race every 30 seconds .

So, not too much dust or mud comes up off that surface then?

I would have expected people to be wearing desert racing style face masks or something. But people don't even appear to be too dust or muddy.

It looks to me like it's crushed gravel like they do on bridle trails around here. Good drainage and not much dust.

It depends.  It's been raining some throughout the week there, so it may or may not be perfect condition.  Just the right amount of water in the dirt to make it grippy and not kick up dust.

However there could be mud as well.  That's what I'm concerned about.  Then there's the potholes that could be 3 inches deep or 3 feet deep that are concealed by water.

I have to fill out all this paperwork for restitution and wowza, my medical bills were almost 20K for my broken (and fixed) face.

I am so thankful that I have insurance. I am guessing I would never get that kind of money out of the dude who did this.

Ohhhh, I like this one more! Love hearing the bikes go by, and riders look focused...not in pain

Curious. With the amount of hill walking in the last video, does anyone ever wear non-road shoes? Or not worth it b/c the hilly dirt/gravel/mud just a small part of the race?

There's about 20 miles of gravel in the race, so it's not insignificant. My team has been discussing this today, and I may use my spd mountain bike shoes. My road shoes are speedplay, and if dirt gets in those from having to put a foot down then they'll be useless.

That's exactly what we (J and I) were talking about last night when I was telling him about the race. Great pillow talk. Lol

I got to wear the KOM/Sprint combo jersey yesterday.  Felt like a baller.

The sprint jersey I can usually get, but the KOM one is tough.  It took me averaging 500W to get it in 56s.

Nice.  I don't know how it all works, but I'm looking forward to trying it out.  Curious as to how it compares to TR.

Wow, those figures look tougher clockwise. I haven't tried clockwise yet. Will tonight. I managed to get the KOM once with a sub 40's climb. Had to hold over 8.5W/Kg for the c.40 seconds. Kept the jersey for a whole 20 odd seconds before someone obliterated it I have never come close to the green jersey. I think the kickr is not too good on the sprints, I think there's a cap on the power you can throw out. Well, that's my story anyway, and I'm sticking to it

Totally different, IMO,. Think addictive video game. I don't know what it will be like with zwift power, as opposed to real power, you'll have to let us know. It's pretty cool with a resistance controlled trainer though.

Ha! My PRs for the counter clockwise route was 6.4 for the sprint and 36 for the KOM.  For this route it's 7.8 and 56.  The sprint is now a false flat, which helps me a lot more against bigger guys that could tear up the older downhill.

Maybe you're racing against Jens and Taylor Phinney. I know they both go to Zwift island too.

There's quite a few pros that are on it now.  Janez Brajkovic has ridden when I have a few times.  Starky has also been on it.
