Sorry Salty! I ended up cutting out the Seattle leg so I could get down to see my kids sooner.

Jo, I see THIS is coming!

I think you are one of the few people who knew what I was talking about when I mentioned Summer Heights High.

Also, just for fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toDg9I0SYy0

I have no facing clue what that is, but it just doubled me over. Thanks for that.

It's an australian comedy from like, 2005 that my friends and I discovered. Chris Lilley plays 3 characters in the show. Anyway, one of the characters has "her" own off-shoot show as well. In fact, that may have come first and then Summer Heights High was the offshoot. Whatever, doesn't matter.

It's effing hilarious though.

You can pretty much youtube all of the episodes, starting @ 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF0ciPrKzH4

that is pure gold, my friend. Many thanks,

This makes me so happy that you are going to watch it. YESSSSSSSSSS

holy chit balls! This is AWESOME, "The tsunami disaster to the Bananorama soundtrack" Salty, I am feeling so grateful I know you right now.

Hey everyone, just a quick shout out--race went well, considering almost brutal heat...Anyway--I will get to a RR hopefully soon--the race was trumped by the Weeple-Q afterwords; I know some crazy folks. Yes there are a few pics.

Parents are both doing well, my mom starts chemo this next week, I think, and is happy that they are putting in some little thingie in her neck so that they don't need to give her shots all the time. Even though it will probably in there for the next nine months. In other words, my mom is her usual self, and I am glad of it...she also got my sewing machine fixed too. Another plus! Dad is grumbly and whiny, so, basically a normal 74 year old man with health issues, but he is ok overall and still being silly. I'll take it.

I have read up the last few pages, good to see new faces, the faces that are not new, but back from absentee-ness; and  always good to see all of the musings from the stalkers and other fun people who are here. I am so very glad that you all are a part of my life.

Late night check-in...

Had an awesome long ride this weekend. 66 miles and rained on us twice. Loved it!

We've set up a DD "date" ride route that may need to be adjusted based on some info DH heard today. A fellow triathlete and co-worker of DH's told him about a police call he had his wife make while he was on his long ride this weekend. He almost always rides alone and very early morning.  A gray truck stalked him for several miles along the road we normally ride. They drove by slowly and then u-turned several times. They stayed on main Rez road when he turned for the mountain. The cop that showed up as he was still riding said that they've been having issues along the Reservation roads for a few months. Similar gray truck has robbed bikers at gunpoint and taking bikes if nice enough. YIKES!

Jo-Ouchie! Hope that wrist is working out its issues. 5 days left, or 4 now?

Randee and Janyne- thank you for your MS work. My dad was diagnosed a few years ago. My first HM was the Phoenix RnR supporting MS last year. Quite an emotional run. Yesterday, my parents left for a visit with my brother. It was the first time my dad hasn't trusted himself to drive

Salty- YAY! for Boston :D

Tom- I have no wetsuit advice. I live in SoAZ...the water temps never allow for wetsuit legal races

Jonathan- Welcome back! Has everyone already asked about little fuzzball? Pics soon, right? Happy you're getting settled in "new" life.

Well, DH just came downstairs...must be bedtime. Will catch up more tomorrow.

Grey truck stalking - no good.  be careful.

Just been for an Xray and CT scan.  I can't read those darn things so back to doc tomorrow 11am.  Was very impressed booked a local doc to work - got an appointment he wasn't happy with wrist, straight to radiology up the road, waited about 40 mins - Xray and CT scan (both free) and back to work within 1 hour and 45 mins.  Great service.  will be out of pocked $34 for the doc that's it.

He rolled his eyes when i said i was racing - he said the swim would be tough, the ride would be tougher but should be good to run if i get through those.  Issue will be bumping into people on the swim, not falling on the ride or the run.

We shall see.  Let you know tomorrow.

WOW - MANATEE'S GONE WILD!  I step away for a few days - and there are 12 new pages!  Holy crap.  No way I can catch up.

New job is going good.  I've been busy, but the work is much more rewarding than what I was doing, and most importantly - my boss is waaaaay cool.

I am starting a new marathon training program today.

I wanted to share something a touch personal.  You all know I am not flush with cash (my way of saying broke).  I have not always been that way.  At one point - I carried enough plastic in my wallet to by a nice house (no exaggeration), but that's a story for another day.  Lately, I've struggled to pay the rent on time the last 2 months, and haven't been able to buy groceries like normal.  My fridge has been a barren wasteland of late.  When I changed jobs, there was a 3 week gap in paychecks, which really hurt.  The new company did not pay me my mileage yet, even though it was pre-approved.  I think when the lady approved it, she didn't realize that the drive was over 1100 miles, one way!

So - I had to tap my anorexic 401K.  The check for $3,850 arrived yesterday.  I immediately ran to the bank and deposited it.  My account was overdrawn by $185.  That left $3,665.

I went home and put all my outstanding bills into an excel spreadsheet and totaled it up. $3,.600!!!  LOL

I am happy to say (and this is the part I really wanted to share) - I am now debt free!  I brought every monthly bill current, and I paid every credit card (4) off!  Well - almost off.  I paid 1 completely off (Amazon Account) - and paid the other 3 to less than a $75 balance each.  I'm trying to build my credit back up, so I left a small balance that I can make monthly payment on.

It feels good.  I am broke again - but I do not owe any company any money.  Woo Hoo!  The best part(s)?

  • I have already made sales at my new job, so my next check will include commissions
  • The company has approved the mileage, so I'll receive an additional $1,000 ish in the next couple weeks
  • I have an additional office allowance of $500 being paid out, and I don't need to buy anything for my home office!
  • I just landed a new client (on my personal website business) - a $1,500 project that will be done by the end of the month
  • My billable invoices (for my website business) are due in a couple weeks - so I'll get paid that money
  • My brother is going to pay me the $275 he owes me out of his next check
  • I get paid Friday AND
  • There is another payday before the end of the month.

All my bills are paid - and I have all that income within the next 3 1/2 weeks.  I think I've finally pulled myself out of "The Hole"

As a footnote - I've setup 10% of my paychecks to be direct deposited into a savings account that I don't have access too (rainy day fund) and I'm depositing money back into a 401K.  I've elected medical and dental coverage - as well as several other benefits, and I also setup a life insurance program.

I feel good.  My hard work is paying off.

As you were.

I remember being horrified at the time. I was never a Decker fan. She showed her true colors in that race, and it was disgraceful.

I watched part of the episode you are talking about, and I will give Decker credit. She seems to have reformed from her younger, bitchier self. But hey. We were all young once. I'm glad no one had a camera on me during my bitchy moments.

ETA: Adrienne -- where are your comments about the episode?

Also, major changes to my fall racing plan, after all of that lol. Looks like I very possibly won't be racing a HM at all. Instead, I will be doing 6(ish) XC races. It will be really strange to do a block of VERY difficult racing where times don't really mean shyte

Awesome. I love this change.

That is just super, Skrat!  Glad things are looking up for you.  Good people deserve good things to happen to them, and you are definitely one of the 'good guys'.  Cool Must be a great feeling!

That is truly amazing and thoroughly unAmerican (just statistically speaking). Seriously--kudos. Come to think of it, it's actually thoroughly unWestern as things are nowadays both with individuals and nations!

I realize that the most important thing is that I got to Japan and wound up okay and got back in one piece (mostly) ...

However, the fact that all the debacles (including cost of replacing equipment) made this trip cost $3000 ... OVER what I had planned to pay ... almost hurts more than the physical fallout.

I racked up both my credit cards to cover that (most serendipitously and slightly ironically, I had just gotten them the day before I left! I have a third but technically it belongs to the company, not me, even though I pay it off) ... and that's the first time I've actually been in significant debt since I left the U.S. in 2009. (I cleared up all my U.S. debt right before I left).
