That sucks.

I love reading about what gear people love and why - so I'll pick a few of my favs:

Road Bike: Madone 5.2.wsd - she's actually v2. v1 was destroyed when I was hit by a car LITERALLY 2 miles into my first ride the DAY I GOT IT. I bounced, the bike did not (RIP)

Mountain Bike: TItus MotoLite - climbs like a mountain goat and descends even better!

Shoes: Bontrager something - nice wide toe box - awesome insoles!

Shorts: (for non tris) my Louis Garneau Team compressions! I got them at the outlet and they are sweeeeeet!!

Running shoes: Ghost 6.

Running shorts: my current favorites are the Lululemon ones I got at the outlet. WHEEEEEE

Socks: a 2nd for Balegas!!! I have a whole drawer full.

Misc:
headphones: Motorola SD-10 bluetooth - NO WIRES! YAY
waterbottles: hands down camelbak!
tights: CW-X compression - so looking forward to the cooler weather so I can wear them
body lube: Mission anti chafe
compression sleeves: CEP

what else ya got?

I know what you mean.  I bought them sight unseen b/c I was dealing with an issue in my foot that was affecting my ability to run.  I was fortunate that they fit me and they made it possible for me to run pain free.  I did buy them from running warehouse, so if i hadn't liked them i could send them back without even having to pay for shipping.  They are not for everyone, but I like them!

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THE INSPIRES!!

Manatees ROCK!!

I saw the sports med doc yesterday and I can get on the road to recovery, as long as I get on a bike first, for a while, to build my cardio back up.  He was not too pleased that I have only been walking and not doing anything to keep my heart in shape. Oh well, it's my pity party and I will sit if I want to.  I see his point though.

I asked my husband to dig my Madone out and dust her off.  I call her the B.A. for Blue Angel or Bad A$$, which refers to how my a$$ feels when I ride her and not her attitude.  She has been ridden 1 time in 15 months.

If I have to start biking more and if I actually start to like it, I may reconsider my disdain for all things triathlon.  I like to swim and maybe I should consider varying up from just running.   I looked at the 22 week couch to sprint plan here on BT.  It is a slowwwwww starting plan but I have really never started slow before and built a base.

To quote a friend after his 100 miler this past weekend, "It's an experience, but it's better to go through the gateway drugs of 50K, 50M and 100K first."

I have never built up, starting my running event career with a marathon and then this past April doing the Big Sur 21 miler off the couch.  It is time for me to realize I need to base train.

I think so much of our enjoyment in sport comes from feeling success, however we define it--going further than before, faster than before, figuring out a technique thing, dealing with a fear, doing a new race, whatever.  Having a good base is so critical to the feeling success part, that it is funny to me how often we (I) poo-poo it. Really, it's kind of a duh, but I am guilty, guilty, guilty.

I have learned, and in some cases relearned, a lot on this site by reading others' experiences.  I think of Ron, one of the streakers in the running challenge, quite regularly.  He just starting running 4 (maybe 5) years ago, as in was NEVER a runner, and now he's doing things like back-to-back marathons and 100 milers.  He is incredibly consistent (is approaching two years on his streak), but he started slowly and built an incredible base.  I've been running for over 20 years, and I've never base built in that way.  It really is powerful, and we should all consider it as a training priority.

Jo, good luck with this and with learning to love your BA :)

Hello all, I hope life is treating well. Weekend is on the way and that is a really cool deal. DD2 will be home next week and we'll start adjusting to having a not empty nest again. Damn it, now I must put on pants

Today we have a little something from Dale Carnegie - “It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.”

Enjoy the weekend!!!!

Originally posted by melbo55 OK, I'm nervously excited.  I am planning on trying a new Masters swim program at a local college...so lotsa new stuff to go with that: 1)swimming WITH people 2)swimming a real, planned workout 3)being pokey and therefore intimidated by the fast kids and points 1 and 2!  Yet despite these things, I will give it a try - I'm hoping the accountability and structure will help.  I'm planning on riding there with my friend (accountability).  Price isn't that bad, especially compared to what I typically pay at HARC (which I am currently between plans right now and haven't paid for the new season yet) and considering I'm getting guidance, too.  Monday is the day...if all goes well, I will return Friday!

AWESOME!

Please give us the full report

Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. I was going to say you should try a new saddle if yours is so painful, but then read that you ride it less then once a year, so I can't decide if it hurts b/c you don't ride it or you don't ride it cuz it hurts. Chicken or egg.

Janyne, what saddle are you using, Cobb? I am finally test riding a Specialized Romin this weekend. All the roadies I group ride with swear by them. There are very few pieces of equipment that I feel strongly about, but I think that the saddle will be in the small group of "Gear that matters to Chris". And I am a Balega lover as well.

I've never heard of Denver flooding before.  Does that happen with any regularity?

Something I read yesterday said that it was a 500 year flood, however it is that they calculate such things. Our volleyball girls are headed that way this morning for a tournament. I was surprised it was still being held.

You hit the nail on the head!! We're here for ya Jo! Have fun on the journey!
