Quick update on me: I've been avoiding BT.  I'm getting down about the injury, mainly that it's not really healing as quickly as I would like.  It's really hard to stay off the leg with a toddler in the house and I'm probably not wearing the boot around the house as much as I should.  I go back in next week, but I'm pretty sure Ortho is going to tell me I'm not allowed to do anything for the time being.

On the job front: I've had 2 phone interviews.  Got a call this afternoon (a few hours after the second) that they want to bring me up for an in-person interview!  Super exciting.  This is for a job in Philadelphia, so it would be really easy for my family to relocate up there with DH's job.  He'd just transfer offices and they'd pay for our move.

Boo on the injury, HAPPY DANCE on the job front!!!

I agree. Take care of yourself.

JOBBIE!!! Fingers crossed. And as always--love and prayers for your fambly.

I probably have a stress fracture too. We can mrrrrow and howl together. I'll have it X-rayed/MRI'ed when I get back to Bali where it's cheaper.

WTF - how on earth?

Are you sure you want to ask that question

So I am tossing up between these two wetsuits:

https://www.totaltriathlon.com.au/index.php/shop/shop-by-category/we...

https://www.totaltriathlon.com.au/index.php/shop/shop-by-category/we...

Realistically it is going to get used for racing maybe 2 or 3 times a year if that because I wont wear it for anything less than an Oly and there isn't that many of them on our annual race calendar.

I am leaning towards the TRN (the cheaper one) as I am not sure that I can justify the extra cost for 2 or 3 swims a year but what do you guys think?

I am doggie sitting a 90lb Newfie/collie cross.  He reminds me so much of my Oreo.  He is a patient at the hospital I still occasionally work at and I just love him.  His name is Trevor.  He's keeping me busy

I am jealous!  We used to own 2 Newfies - great, great dogs (although a bit slobbery Wink) If i didn't live in Florida, I'd own another.

I have an awards dinner (not for me) tonight so doesn't look like anything exciting will happen today.

Have a good day!

It just keeps getting better. My son can't stand to leave the place, "Dad said we could stay here all day. It's not even dark yet!", and my girl finds everything amazing. Can't say that I blame her.Laughing

OK. Treadmill. Then some catching up on Pod news and RRs.

Put it on an incline and tell yourself you need this to better hike up and out of the canyons. Wink And yes, it does help.

LOL...I couldn't bring myself to do it. Tomorrow, after the trip magic has worn off.

Checked the air in jogging stroller...checked the temp (97*, not deathly hot?)...filled water bottle with ice...and went for a slow 30min jog.

Looks like a really nice day there! I saw a number of animals, but no snake like you did. Know what type it was? This is the profile of some of the surrounding trails to get up top. When the kids are older, it's well worth getting up higher. The pathways are rather well done, they just go up a lot and do it fast. Have to hike up nearly as high as the Burj Khalifa to do it, but the view is stunning. From what I did, Observation Point is the best spot. The other two overlooks are great when out there, but it's a lot of hiking through what could be any old forest to get there. Ok for me, but most won't want to go that far.

It was gorgeous! A bit cloudy and late flash flood warnings on Saturday evening, then yesterday was perfect.

Here's the snake:  http://dwrcdc.nr.utah.gov/rsgis2/search/Display.asp?FlNm=masttaen      It was going to cross the busy Emerald Pools trail, then my son ran up   We watched it climb back into a shrub and across to a tree and then up 5-6 feet to hang out. I think about 20 people stopped to see it. Not a typical sighting.

We thought about doing the Hidden Canyon trail (850 ft climb within a mile), but after doing the Emerald Pools my son wanted to go down into some of the lower canyons/washes on the east side of the big tunnel. Looks like Observation Point goes on up past Hidden Canyon. Cool!

Observation Point. Angels Landing. The Narrows. Ahhhhh...so tempting, and both my kids are mountain goats. But then there's good parental sense.  Five more years??? I can wait. Sealed

Nice! Probably too cold out for the snake when I was up there. It was raining all day for that big hike. I was prepared for that, so it was still a very interesting day. Hadn't seen a flash flood before. Really something to see a dry sand path turn into a raging river that fast. Then being up in the clouds at the top, watching them move down the canyon area is something not everyone gets to see. And it's amazing how fast the water builds up as I came back down from up high.

Hidden Canyon splits off a bit from the Observation Point trail, but it's not *that* far away. The kids will probably like scrambling over everything in there. One of the best mid-level viewing points of the area is over there as well.

I didn't get to do the Narrows because of the rain. First it flooded some, and even after calming down the water was still a very solid dirt brown. Thought that would take away from the colors it's supposed to have so saved it for next time out. Disappointing as that was what I wanted to see most.

Angels Landing was interesting to see. It's as wide as a road up high, so not quite a balance beam, but still very narrow for something ~1,400' tall with sheer cliff faces. Do know that there are some trickier spots. Not that hard as they have chains to hold onto in these places, but do have to pay attention continuously. Most everyone up there has to use these or they won't be able to make it. It's also a very popular spot. I stopped at Scout Point, which is up where it starts to really separate from the rest of the high area. More so from being tired from the big one the day before and emotions running high at the time for a few reasons. The Las Vegas race had gone terribly and had wanted to do this whole trip with one of my brothers who had been working in various locations out west. He'd fallen off a cliff a year before (8888 up in Glacier NP), so I wasn't in the best state of mind to go all the way out with all this coming together. Still worth going to where I did get to. And probably another reason why I jump onto topics like this. Smile

I'm kind of an ahole ... I'd go to the shop, try the TRN on (it's a lot more flexible but a little 'slower' than the Equip, it's going to size just a bit larger than other Orcas as well, which is good because Orcas are tiny, relatively ... also a little less buoyancy, but you're a real Aussie and you actually know how to swim).

Then I'd buy it online.

Kingsley has wooden floors ... what can I say?

My R tibia got a good knock in the race (but everything did), except now that the swelling and bruising has mostly gone down, there's still a very painful spot--often just randomly painful--in the middle of the shin, still bruised and swollen, hurts like fachin' focus when I hop on it.

So if the fit is ok on both of them do you think that the TRN will do the job sufficiently. I don't think that buoyancy is a big issue for me I have two built in buoyancy aids already

When do you head home?

does it hurt to walk? doesn't really sounds like a SF type of injury......I could be wrong but it sounds like more of bone bruise. Either way, get the MRI to know for sure Hope it's not serious.

**disclaimer** I'm not a doctor but I've had my share of sports related injuries and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Dang, I'm soooo out of the loop!

Kate - SUPER MEGA AWESOMENESS on the degree! JJ and Salty, congrats on the races.  Jo - speedy healing vibes for the wrist.  Jen - booooo to the stress fracture, but more awesomeness about the jobby job!  Yanti... yeah.  You know.

I've had a migraine since yesterday evening and even after throwing my usual drugs at it (scrip for a combo of oxycontin and percocet) it hasn't made a dent.  I'm now sitting at work wearing a hat and sunglasses to try and keep the light from hurting my brain.  Blargh.

We do... and I was contemplating all morning whether to call in sick or not - and figured that I might start to feel better once I got to work.  Not so much.

Try them on and get which one fits.  I went to a tri store to rent a wetsuit for one of my first races.  I tried several on, and one just felt better in the store.  I rented it for that race and it felt good in the water as well.  Then I found it online, new, for $100.  (It was the previous years model).  That said, it doesn't make sense to pay less for something if it doesn't fit correctly.

ETA: mine is an Orca and I love it.

If the hop test is positive (ie hurts like fachin' focus), that's indicative of a stress fracture rather than a bone bruise.  I've diagnosed mine that way correctly 100% of the time.

I concur! Good luck on the job front.

Blargh.

umm go home! Surely you get sick leave in the US.

We do... and I was contemplating all morning whether to call in sick or not - and figured that I might start to feel better once I got to work.  Not so much.

Home yet... Or migraine gone? Smile
