Run - 4 x per week.  2 speed, 1 long, 1 zone 2

Trainer - 4 x per week.  2 speed, 1 long, 1 strength

Strength - 2 x per week - squats, lunges, calf raises whatever i can do unimpeded!

Sportoga(yoga based) - 1 x per week

Stretching - after every session

massage - 1 x per week

soul destroying.

That looks like a good mix of activities/levels. You're lucky you can do so much!

And that massage will make all the rest worth it. Call it soul restoration. Laughing

On a different note, please send some prayers for my little Jack Russell.  Late Monday night she was showing signs of pain/distress/something wrong and a visit to the vet the next morning showed she has a slipped disc.  Poor dear is on an anti-inflammatory, a muscle relaxer, and is on mandatory rest for a week.  Yeah...tell a JR with an equally active 'sister' to rest...  Also, my father-in-law's health has declined and we are taking an unplanned trip to WV this weekend, so send some prayers for him as well.  Hoping the dog is well enough for the trip and that my FIL improves, although the way DH talks, he doesn't really want to improve.  He's tired of being sick and getting treatments and feeling bad, etc.  His spirit has definitely waned along with his health.

Good Thoughts and healing vibes and general well-being mojo being sent to man and beast alike.

As for the swimming, I'm not a fish by any stretch of the imagination - though I do know that I have to keep reminding myself to PULL with my left arm through the water as my left arm is a lazyasssonofabitch when I'm not thinking about it.  It's a particularly lazyasssonofabitch when I get tired, which also impedes the ability to count.

Gawd I could use a massage once a week... or once every other week.  Hell, even once a month would be nice!

Rather than doing those drills, you could up the anti by spending some time working in higher zones, e.g., you could do a workout where you warmed up for 20' then did something like 8' @ zone 4, 3' recovery, 10' zone 3 or 4 3' recovery ,10' zone 3 or 4, 10' cool down.  In other words, just work on upping the hard part of the workout, so you don't spend all your time in zone 2.

^^^Yep!

And I don't see putting single leg drills into a session making a difference overall when you're working your zones like this. (newbie $.02)

Actually, I am really impressed with your master's love. It is on the list for me, I have tried contacting the program that is 45 minutes from the house and I got nothing back. I am probably going to end up in the Y pool, with the Master's group there. I have to figure out scheduling and where that $50 a month (or whatever it is) will come from.

You and yours are in my prayers.

My coach had me working onn one aspect of my technique at a time so week one it was kick, week two it was change sides for breathing to fix that kick.  Then it was all relax the fingers, then arms wider - now we are at arms deeper and lead with my thumb on entry coz that helps get my elbow up.

I have something new to focus on every third week I'd say  - so the previous thing is by then a new habit i suppose.  It's a work in progress - I'm on my third year of masters and i've yet to master it.

Ouch. I'm on day 2 of nightly processing and I wanna hurt someone. I can't imagine the on-call thing after midnight. It's bad enough until 10.

ETA: I guess the good way to look at it is that you are almost done

I think of yours and feel better already.

JK. Mine is really no big deal except that the person that is supposed to be programming the process is running into challenges, which is making it impossible to finish her job, which makes it impossible for me to train anyone. And my 2 prego employees are both due at the same time, so I have to get someone trained. I talked to my boss today and said I'd cover the preggies myself at this point, since training is impossible and she went a bit ballistic because we are still fighting through stuff from 2 months ago. It is the standard way things get done here, crap, crap, crap, crap, hand it to Beth (my boss) or Chris and let them get it cleaned up. Rinse, repeat. But in the bigger picture of life, this is tiny stuff, so I smile and move forward.

Done for the night, TTYL!

My friend Ken made a great observation today.....this is what I summed up in my blog:

Ken made a great point today--last year I was doing almost equal volume to this year--though the long runs were not as long and I was not as exhausted as this year.  I dug through last years logs (August--September).  I was tired....had a butt load of migraines.....but was not bone weary exhausted like I am now.   I think  one thing I did differently was run some evenings so I would not have to get up at dawn every day.  I did a lot more yoga. My legs didn't kick in with decent speed until October so I guess this slow azz stuff is the norm for now.....That said, I may alternate weeks of 5 days a week running and 4 days a week to run cause that was my plan last year.  I will also not force myself out of bed at 5 AM all the time now that it's cooling off.  I can do  some running after work which may help.....I haven't gone vegan or even vegetarian --yet....but I am more plant focused.

So I have some direction on how to "fix" what ever is messing up my run and hope to recover it before too long.  Started with a Vinyasa Yoga class tonight (and meat with dinner for the first time since the weekend)

Ok, first things first.  Prayers headed your way for JRT and FIL.  My furry nephew had the same problem, meds and rest and he has been fine since.  Not to say it can't happen again, but they generally do recover.  Is it in her neck or ?

re Masters.  I got slower before I got faster.  But now is the time to do that.  Focus on the stroke changes now, don't worry about how long it is taking you to finish a set or whatever.  They do become muscle memory but only if you don't get frustrated at being slower and keep at it!  It's totally worth it come January, when you are starting to ramp up a bit and you realize that you are indeed faster!

I'M BACK!

So today was first training since the fracture - went for my usual 6.6km Zone 2 lunchtime run.  and i was faster - 9 days rest has done wonders.

I started this Z2 thing at 7.52/km - today was 7.07/km.

Now that is progress - and Zone 2 is comfortable running no out of breath no effort.

I am DELIGHTED.

x3 there's no demonstrated value in single-legged work for pedaling. None. Some people do them and may perceive an n=1 benefit, but that's it.

Just ride. Lots. Hard, a lot, especially important for trainer work as you aren't developing the ancillary muscles to keep balance and do bike handling as you would on the road.

I believe the purpose is to develop your ability to pull 360* with each leg, rather than just to push, or to push and pull straight up.  The idea is to develop an efficiency in your pedaling so that you maximize the power from each stroke.

I fully credit my masters group with my increasing love of swimming.  I've gotten faster and stronger.  I started in lane 1 out of five, and now I"m up to 2 or 3 depending on who's there.

You're going to be working on your stroke for the rest of your life (a good thing, not a discouraging thing).  Begin to develop a self-monitoring ability so that you can always incorporate the latest advice.

Judy, I wonder how much of a role nutrition is playing in this, since you went more plant focused. Is your protein intake around the same level?

Just throwing it out there, I'm so far away from knowledgeable on this stuff that I really need to get up to speed.

Judy, I wonder how much of a role nutrition is playing in this, since you went more plant focused. Is your protein intake around the same level?

Just throwing it out there, I'm so far away from knowledgeable on this stuff that I really need to get up to speed.

I haven't eliminated meat and have done recipes that  had a good balance of other sources of proteins (ie beans and cheeses) BUT I will say that after eating chicken last night my body perked up like nobody's business so some may be related to that change.

I'm kinda interested, as I have been struggling with diet (and the affect there of) lately. It is such a challenge, I feel your pain.

Congratulations on both getting it done with a cast on and getting it done faster!  Way to go!
