Expert 1207 Liberty Lake, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread May ended up being a good month for me. I am ending the month feeling comfortable with the individual race distances and looking forward to putting them all together in 4-weeks. This month I have had 3 rides over 100 miles, my long runs have felt smooth, and I have had several non-stop long swims in the 2.4 mile range. My only complant is that my long rides have been slower than I would have liked. May Hours: Bike = 33:29 Run = 17:09 Swim = 7:55 |

Expert 1207 Liberty Lake, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread mallen4574 - 2010-06-01 2:58 PM ...I know my first time I was nervous that I was somehow different than everyone else and I would lose everything I gained in 2 weeks. For those of you doing your first one, don't worry that doesn't happen. You end up feeling great come race day. I agree 100%. We are almost at the point where long training will do more harm than good. Backing off on the volume can be a good thing, there really is such a thing as race day magic. |

Who do you work for and are they hiring? And does your wife have a sister? Yeah, no doubt. Those numbers are unreal. 200+ miles running in the month? 1,100 mile biking!? Swimming seems normal to me, but those run and bike numbers. . .wow! We expect a sub 9 out of you. Ursus - OMG. You had me cracking up. The sister is already taken, but yeah we're hiring (and there is a 25 yard lap pool on campus). You don't happen to be a SW Engineer do you? Tell3131 - Yeah... this month was a huge test. Fortunately, body and mind held together.. mostly. I had 3 meltdowns due to insufficient recovery, one requiring me to terminate a run, and twice I completely ran out of juice half way through my bike and limped pathetically back home and to work. I actually had a bit more swimming planned, but had to cut it to get the final bike and run mileage in the last week. Mentally, there were times I was walking the edge somewhat, but knowing it would all be over soon pulled me through. I found myself repeating things like Ironman is about now, not just June 27th. And how fortunate we are to be in a position to do what we do. Carpe diem... yada yada yada. All in all, I'm feeling a lot better about my durability for the big day - no major pains to nurse! achen2iron - sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear you are okay. Hang tough. I can't believe IMCDA is this month! |

New user 1 Coeur d Alene | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread We have a room in our home with a double bed and private bath in our basement that we will rent for $100 per night for a single person or $150 per night for a couple. We live in Coeur d Alene on the Mullan bike and running route 13 short blocks from the resort where the swim takes place. It is within EASY walking distance of the start and finish of the race. Please let me know, one way or another, if you still need a room or know someone who does. If you don't need it I will advertise the room more widely. Justin SG |

(If I were you, I'd buy a lottery ticket with the following numbers: 4 8 15 16 23 42) Seriously, think of it as a way that you can buy a new car that is easier to transport your bike around (which is the prevailing reason behind my last car choice). |

Triseattle, I have a connecting flight through Salt Lake on Thursday AM. When are you heading up to CDA? Are you flying or driving? If anyone is flying into Spokane Around 12-1pm local Spokane time and have an extra seat that I can get a ride to CDA to, I may need a ride. I will not have my bike - being shipped. Thanks to anyone that can help. I am doing race with some other buddies and flight arrival times may not be matching up very well. Thanks ahead of time for any help. Press on! Bob |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Brandi, we have some uber athletes here from BT hitting CDA this year. Just pace yourself, stay within yourself and just keep going, you will eventually get to that finish line. Keep your hydration and nutrition good and your training will carry you through. You have no training logs so we can't see how well you are doing to cheer you on. Each person has their own individual journey with a goal of KQ or 16:59:59. Whatever that is, it is your goal and it is well worth posting. Remember that you are doing something that no one in their right mind,... er that no one outside the sport really knows how long it takes to do an IM, so if you say you finished in 16:50 (or whatever) and they will be wow that is awsome! Remember to not tell them that it is a slow time and it is all good 8). Peace. Don't look at the countdown watch... it will suck you in for hours... resist the temptation.... Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hey all - nice numbers. I don't know how some of you manage to find the time and energy to get it all in. I was completely wiped after this weekend and took yesterday off from training. It was good to get caught up with life (and some bike maintenance), but it will be back in the saddle today after work for a 40-mile tempo ride and some time in the pool. I'm actually looking forward to the ride, but I'm sure the enthusiasm will last about a minute once my HR climbs above 150 haha. What are everyone's thoughts about tapering? I know my volume hasn't been as much as some, but I still figure I should back off a bit soon and start focusing on speed / intensity and swimming. There are 3 weekends left...will it be one more hard weekend or two? I'm planning a 20-miler on Sunday and I think I'll do one more 3-mile OWS next weekend. I just don't know if I should do another 100+ mile ride before the race. At some point it has to start doing more harm than good, right? And Jon...where do I sign up! The pool alone is enticing...we don't even have a shower here. |

The pool alone is enticing...we don't even have a shower here. I would not call it a taper yet but I am begining to cut back on the long stuff now. I have gone 100+ miles on the bike for the last 3 weekends (around 6-hours). For the next 4 weekends my long ride plan is 4-hours, 3-hours, 2-hours, and then raceday. I am planning a similar drop in my long run; 2.5-hours, 2-hours, 1.5-hours, raceday. Swimming is going to be a crap shoot. I am losing my pool this Saturday so my only option will be OWS. I will try to swim as much as I can but the reality is that I might get a total of 4 more swims in before race day. Next week I will start to lower the duration of the mid-week stuff. By June 14th I will be in full blown taper mode. |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread This weekend's ride will be shorter with more hills. Probably 80 miles, 7500 feet of climbing. Run, 2 hours. Then I'm tapering. I will swim a bit harder/longer for the next couple of weeks. We ship our bikes on 6/18. We fly into CdA for some pre-race camping and anniversary (24 years!) celebrating on 6/21. By next Monday, the hay's in the barn. |
