Steve,

Congrats on a fabulous first HIM. From what I've read (and my one brief experience), overcooking the bike and suffering on the run is pretty common for the inaugural HIM and honestly, it sounds like you held up much better than most, especially considering you were down in the Florida heat and humidity. No gators, eh?

James,

No change in weight (again!) for 0 + 5 = 5
400 min training for 13 points.
Total = 18 points.

First ride up on Skyline Drive this weekend - glorious day. At least until I hit the 3 mile "hill" up to 3000 ft. Yes, I have my work cut out for me! Spin class isn't the same as carting my 200lb+ self up that incline :-)

Hope everyone has a great week - don't forget your taxes!

Stu

Hey - I think someone has a little race this coming Monday!

Wendy - I would have loved to seen you come in but I won't be in town.

Have a great race and don't go out too fast. There is a subtle downhill for the first half that sucks people in and they suffer for it later.

Should be an incredible experience - ENJOY!!!

Hey Gray team:

Who is racing this weekend? I'm a bit out of the loop on who is doing what.

I'm just in for a moderate weekend of training. I'm trying to dial back in now that I'm recovered from my race.

Have a great Easter everyone!

Steve

Hey Steve,

No races for me this week....Busy weekend training though.  Have a metric century next weekend (it will be humbling as the area it's in is pretty hilly) then in a couple of weeks my super sprint (defending champion of the old & gray ladies)

I haven't sorted out any kind of race schedule past the Olympic in June.  I think I need a couple of sprints for the summer.  Problem is I really dislike the race organization for a lot of local races (a sponsor on this site so I can't name the name without problems from management).  I find their races poorly organized and the RD is just plan snobbish so she makes it a miserable experience most of the time.  The other race organization is decent to deal with---but I am bored at their courses.  Can't really do much for travel races since I used so much time when my mother was sick & need time to get my daughters off to college....Still would like another sprint or 2 and maybe some stand alone bike/ swim (GASP) events.  Once it gets hot & humid I avoid stand alone running so my window for run events is limited to fall-winter and early spring.

Yeah Scott....I still struggle with finding love for the swim.  8 years of this and it's a tolerance for swimming.

Thanks James! I'm so excited! It has been really emotional in Boston this year. I can't imagine what coming down to the finish will be like. The weather is supposed to be amazing! That "subtle" downhill at the start is a ski slope!

Have a great Easter everyone! I'll post a report when I am among the living again!

Hey Wendy:

Good luck in Boston. Most of all, I hope you have a wonderfully memorable day.

Bad news for me. Somehow hurt my shoulder. It feels like the same injury I had about 5 years ago skiing...rotator cuff. Very painful. Finally got it under control with cortisone injections.

I don't think it's triathlon related as I haven't been swimming this week. I was carrying some heavier stuff and I think I tweaked it that way. In any case, It's nasty...like a giant toothache running down my arm. I've got a business trip to Florida tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be better later in the week.

Wow was that ugly! The last 4 miles I swore I was never ever going to do another marathon!

I started out too fast and by 19 miles my legs were killing me. I know better! I salvaged a 3:25 and still had a wonderful time. The crowds were amazing. Several times I teared up from the overwhelming support the city of Boston showed. Truly a wonderful experience!

Oh, and I changed my mind. There will be more marathons. Next year redemption will be sweet at Boston!

Have a terrific week everyone!

I didn’t used to like to run slow. You begin to recalibrate your needs and wants and if-only you could jog an easy two miles, three times per week. Running is a gift.
