fattyfatfat - 2009-12-24 9:49 AM got a cool gift last night.  most summer afternoons i can be found floating around my neighbors pool.  i'm to usually to lazy to get out and get a new beer so they gave me floating cooler for next summer.  jacy seems to like it to, i didn't tell her there's no room for her bottle's in it though.

Hey John, you keep the cooler, I want the kid.  She is adorable......

Sam--hope your TT is going well.  That is my least favorite bike workout.....so tough mentally.  Let us know how it went.

Had a brutal bike this morning, cooked some and up now sitting wth my legs up.  All this standing and cooking is bugging my foot.  I might take Birdy's advice and blow off my swim today.  Afterall it is the holiday, right?

I just wanted to jump in a say Merry Christmas to everyone.  I just did my last workout before taking a couple days off.  I am building my run back up from zero and went out for six miles today.  I am kind of liking this off season "long, slow stuff".  Beats the heck out of painful tempo runs!

Quick question for all of the runners: (I know it's a personal preference, but what is YOUR preference?
1.  Do you try to negative split most runs (long and short)

Happy holidays.  Be safe.

Ok, I haven't been able to run in six weeks, but I still consider myself a runner.  I used to have that mentality.  Now, I just follow the plan, warm-up, insert workout of the day here, and cool-down.  I don't even look at the splits.  Racing is another story.  In short events 5K to half marathon I try to negative split. With a marathon I am usually going for even splits.  Of course that doesn't always happen .

X2 on that Chris, sometimes my run calls for an easy warm up, a few intervals of running in Zone 2 or 3 or 4 and then back again...so I don't keep track of that sort of thing.  I just do what my coach tells me to do.

I think it depends on what you want to accomplish with that run.  Now, if I get tired an seem to be slowing down on the second half of a planned run, I imagine it could be related to nutrition or dehydration...and will learn from it for the next time.  (or maybe were too ambitious about increasing distance or pace too soon)  Hope that helps.

Now the whole negative split in racing, sure wouldn't we all like to do that, but it's a learning process for sure.  I sure wish I could have even or negative split my marathon, but I will learn from it for future races.

It's official John - check the back of your neck, it probably matches the bottom half of that bobber cooler...(living in SE Texas does that to you, whether you want it or not)  Jacy is so cute! Glad she takes after her mom!

Hey everyone, thanks for the comments, and I did not fall off the face of the earth, but the weather around here has been crazy.  I had my week planned out to get my swim and bikes in early in the week as we were going to leave this afternoon, my wife had to work a half day today.  We ended up leaving Tuesday afternoon and working remotely yesterday and today.

I had a solid 1:30 bike ride on Monday while watching Kona on the DVR.  I have a feeling it will be staying on there all winter, provides me some good motivation.  I slacked after we traveled and did not do anything yesterday, after having a few off days this weekend.

Good interval set tonight 1/2 mile warmup, then 6x800 with 400 recovery.  I pushed the paces on the treadmill and greatly surprised myself with the outcome, although the last one was a challenge and I was burning.

Happy Holidays to everyone, and again thanks for the kind words.  I have been reading up my new book, Training and Racing with a Power Meter, and cannot wait until I order mine after the first of the year!  I also got good news back from a Saris rep, the PRO+ model is being changed from a 12mm to a 15mm hub!

I will have a few more runs in until we get home.  I am in Iowa this week and weekend before going home to Minneapolis.  Rain and ice here, to who knows how much snow at home, sounds like a good reason to get out the skis or snowboard on Monday with my day off!

I guess I could add some strength training to my log today, helped push a UPS truck that slid on the road ahead of my parents house.  That counts right?

I also have to add another comment about my workout Monday night.  After watching Kona, my wife said to me:
"Baby, I know you are going to do an IM in your life"
Me: "Hah, yeah you are probably right"
Her: "And I also know that you will not be satisfied unless it is Kona"
Me: With a big smile on my face "Hah, yeah you are probably right"
Her: "And I want you to know that I will support that, but can we have a kid first so I can have someone around while you are training all the time?"

While I am not quite at the point of being ready for kids yet, she is a bit closer, sounds like bribery to me!  I read it as we just have to have a kid before I can do an IM, whenever that may be, and that I have an amazing wife

Merry Christmas everyone!I've been having a so-so week. I was planning on getting in an hour spin on the trainer Tuesday after the drive from Little Rock to Colorado Springs, but we got caught in snow and didn't get home until late. Then the next day my priorities were out of whack so I didn't do anything. At least today I got outside. First time running in the snow, which was much more of a challenge than I thought it would be. Plus the five months at sea level made it even harder. It ended up being mostly walking. I'm going to try getting on the trainer tonight. Why did I start my 20wk program during Christmas? I'm stupid.

Totally negative split. If for no other reason, it takes me a good mile or two to warm up. I always finish strong. Love it that way, especially in races!!

Merry Christmas to all!! Just finished decorating cookies, which was a deadline-centered activity as Santa needs his fuel, right?!

Enjoy tonight and tomorrow! When the kids get the new toys, I imagine hubby and I will have a full day ahead of us to do whatever we want. I might torture my butt bones again. Depends on how many cookies the kids leave for me tonight!

More than Christmas, I'm always THRILLED to make it to 12/21 and get on the trend of more daylight hours. We gain about 3 minutes per day, so you notice it quickly, thank goodness!

Cheers to all!!!!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Kids were going crazy here too!  Reindeer food is spread...pretty funny seeing my 7 year old out in his PJs spreading it all over the front lawn.

We head to my in-laws tomorrow afternoon and I won't have much internet access until Monday so don't get me too many pages behind!!

Be safe and happy!
