Elite 3072 san francisco | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! sdalessio - 2010-11-05 7:36 AM Hi gang - Happy Friday! My day has started off well. I signed myself up for some torture at our local hospital - a full cholestrol screening and body fat analysis. Now we all know I'm a wee bit neurotic about my weight - ok maybe a lot. So going to have my body fat done was not on the top of my list of favorite things and I hate needles. But to my surprise my cholestrol was 191 - WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO! Down 35 pts. from my physical 4 years ago when I was just getting into all this crazy endurance stuff. One good numer was so low that is didn't even register on the charts. And my body fat ..................... 20%! Another WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO. Now I know this number may not be great for some but all BMI charts put me at 25% and I guarantee that is a lot lower than 4 yrs. ago. And it's nice to see things like healthy and excellent next to your test results. So I guess all this training does pay off. Now I just need to figure out my abnormally low metabolism. Grrr! I guess not a big deal but it means I can't eat as much and this a BIG DEAL!!!!!! Good luck racers and I hope everyone has a great weekend! Congrats, Sam! That is really awesome! |

Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! SSMinnow - 2010-11-03 7:12 AM Gosh, another week is flying by....who has some race plans to tell us about???? And if you don't how about telling us about a habit you are changing or trying to develop to make you better than ever? OK, last catching-up post: I'm racing! I'm running the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon tomorrow, bib# 996. I've run more than I've ever run before to train for this race and gotten more disciplined about pacing, so I hope I can get past the curse of the last 5 miles this time. It's suddenly gotten cold, so I'm a little nervous since I haven't trained at those temps yet this fall, but better cold than hot! Good luck on your trail race, John, and anyone else who is racing! |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Just got back from my 2nd PT session. She got my hip aligned this visit. She thought it would take 3 or 4. MY left leg is about 1/2 inch shorter than my right. She then had me do a balance test. I stood on one leg on a Bonsu (Sic) ball and then bent my knee. Talk about humbling! My leg was shaking! Turns out my instablity is from my feet and ankles (Surprise NOT) and I have god strngth in my hips. She gave me an exercise to do every other day for 5-10 reps a shot. There a PITA literally. I also asked if I should continue to do the exercises she gave me last time. Her answer: "For the rest of your life." (sigh) Anyway I am only allowed to run very limited amounts for now. Basically 2 minute intervals for a mile. We'll reevaluate at my next session. I envy all of you that get to run now. |

It kind of makes all the early hours and I'd rather be on the couch times worth it. Good for you!! Congratulations!! And yeah, seeing concrete results like this makes that hard work worth it. Keep it up. You are a star! |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Any of you vertically challanged MG members, I found this post on the Raleigh CL for a set of 650 Hed wheels: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/2043479071.html I have a HED3 (front and rear) aero wheelset. These are carbon tubular wheels with aluminum braking surface (ie do not require different brake pads when you ride them). They are 650c sized wheels -- great for older triathlon bikes that are hard to find wheels for, or even brand new smaller sized womens bikes. They currently have tubular tires mounted with lots of life left on them, but I will throw in a brand new spare for free ($80 new). Comes with a 9spd 11-23 cassette, but will accept all Shimano cassettes 8-10spd. Will let the wheels and tire go for $600 shipped. You can read about these wheels at HED's web site: http://www.hedcycling.com/wheels/H3d_tubular.asp. I don't know the exact age of the the wheels, but they are in EXCELLENT condition. I raced these wheels for two seasons. I love them, but I am selling my triathlon bike to get into road cycling. Below is the best picture I have of the wheels. This is from a race in May of this year. I'll be happy to take more photos if needed. The seller is asking $600. |

Exercises for the rest of your life aren't the end of the world... sometimes as we get older and creakier (speaking for myself, not for you, mind you!!) we have to change our ways a little. It's a small price to pay... And I'll tell ya, there is nothing better for motivation than being side-lined for awhile. So don't push the run, and just let that pent-up desire build and build... then release it s-l-o-w-l-y when you are able to train again how you want to be training. Your timing for a break is perfect, really!! Hang in there!! |

But I don't own a 650 bike. :-( The seller is also selling his tri bike as in the picture, but it's 56cm. 8cm too tall. *boo* |

ROCK ON HIPPIE!!!!! |

I am going to wait to see just how big of a storm we get tonight before I head over to my 10k...it is an on site registration and I sure don't want to get sick if it is storming...but a little rain would be okay. Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! John - so sorry you weren't able to run your trail race, but it sounds like you made the right decision. Eyes on the prize. Thanks everyone for tracking me. It kept me going when it started to hurt, and hurt it did - especially the last 3 miles! I would have loved to stay on pace through the end, but I'm not going to complain about a 15 minute PR (!) and a BQ by the comfortable margin of 8 seconds (!!!). I've very happy with the race, and had a great time running it (except maybe those last 3 miles). I had to stop and sit down to rest about 5 times on the 3 block walk back to the hotel, so I'm pretty sure I left it all out there on the course. |
