I was going to do my 8.4 mile route - then decided at the last second to add in the 1.4 miles to hit double digits today. This mean a 1350' drop @ 8% grade, followed by a flat then a 650' drop @ 8% grade. All fine and dandy until I had to turn around and run up them. Pretty sure I'm heading to the pool in a 1/2 hour. Can't wait to try a modified stroke!! All this swim talk has me so revved up to swim. Let us know how the modified stroke goes - remember in your mind aim wide and you'll end up just where you should be! I really concentrated on my stroke in the OWS last night - and remembered Coach Johnny's words - if it's choppy you got to be aggressive JoJo, don't be a victim! I still got turned over a couple of times but I channelled my inner 10 year old self and enjoyed the ride!
I'm stoked! I shaved 1 stroke per lap (16 to 15) with the first modification. It felt like I was reaching out so wide, but now that I see the video I realize I wasn't. I'm not crossing center now and I minimized the "S" underwater. I still have to practice it, a lot, because when I picked up the pace - I went back to old habits, but I am sold on no more "S" pull. I did notice that tonight my kick looked a bit sloppy - but I think that is due to the 10 miles I ran right before swimming and the fact I was focussing on my stroke. Without further adieu: |

Without further adieu: Awesome will look at that at home. With that S stroke another tip from my coach was to brush my hip with my hand at the end of the stroke to ensure I'm in the right spot and I've stuck to that for nearly two years - it's always on my mind, aim wide, brush hip, don't stick, deep with the hands, relaxed fingers, elbow high. With all that going on I don't count my strokes! |

This was my outfit for a local "Santa Runs Tacoma" 10K last year. This is my a** screw - I got this from a bad skiing accident in May 2008. I wanted to share this with you guys because it's hurting tonight...it hasn't bothered me in a while, but it's sore tonight. I will post the video link from tonight's swim in the next post. Nice outfit! haha! I have a scar on my forehead - hit by a bottle at a concert many years ago and it gets sore when it's going to rain. I'm like harry Potter! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I saved my "Manateehood" today. I had a rough weekend and it had its impact. I found out my ex decided to contact my supervisor and lead to a whole bunch of extra stupidity over the weekend. I was not feeling like doing anything. Time to get back into things and get back focused. I will be back into the pool next week on Wednesday and looking forward to it. |

That totally sucks [confession, I watch the biggest loser] So, last night on Biggest Loser, Jillian's peeps trained with Bob for a while. Bob gave them a medicine ball and said to throw it on the ground hard and pretend that it is Jillian's head. If I were you (see, not a total non sequitur!), I would have wanted to pretend the medicine ball was someone else's head! Edited by jmkizer 2013-01-08 8:53 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Has anyone done a reverse tri? There is a sprint coming up in a month that I'd like to do, but it's a reverse. My fear is the swim and I liked getting it out of the way (in my long and distinguished tri career of one whole sprint)...not ending on it. Then again it's a sprint...big deal. Any thoughts? |

Pool or lake swim? My first was a reverse so I have a perverse fondness of them (among other things). One way to look at it is if you really rev it up on the bike and run, it's going to be a real relief to get into that cool water, even if you have to swim in it! Also, if you enjoy triathlon generally, it's good to get experience wherever you can, and if the race is local/reasonable ... DOOOOO EEEEEEET P.S. Of course that's goody as in, evil twinkle in the eye, rubbing hands together OH GOODY |

We have them here all the time. I probably do as many reverse as I do regular. I don't mind them, jumping in to a pool when you're hot n sweaty from the bike is actually nice. The transitions are a little weird but with a little practice you'll be fine. Doooooo Eeeeeet! |
