lisac957 - 2008-06-03 4:29 PM I said in the other thread I don't want to be around you nervous nelly's Saturday night! However. What about meeting up at the Expo or bike drop off? We all have to do that at some point.

Sounds great to me - I'd love to meet you all   I'm getting in Fri night & should be able to meet about any time Sat . . .  Kinda funny that it takes traveling to KS to meet the local NE BT'rs :P

The field (in brief):

M25-29 99 (8%)
M30-34 112 (9%; includes Craig Alexander)
M35-39 224 (19%)
M40-45 168 (14%)
Total Men ~855 (73%)
Total ALL ~1175

Not counting the M45-49 age group? I hope to let you know this "oldman" is planning on kick'n a** June 15 so you youngsters may have to hold up your diapers as I go flying by! HeHe....

There are only 70+ signed up for that age group, that's why they were not included. Sorry, no offense.

None taken. I just got my walker tuned up and have my cane on stand by.

Is it just me, or does it seem crazy that this workout has the word TAPER as part of it????  Ok, so I am NOT a good swimmer, so 4000 seems like an eternity to swim and will take me WAY longer than 80 minutes, so that isn't helping . . . but still - this swim on top of a 2.5 hour bike and 15 min run - that is TAPER???  I think I'll just double check on this one . . . not sure I'll get a response in time, but I'll try . . .

Swim: IM Taper - KEY WORKOUT
80
4000

This tapering is a lot of work . . . I'm looking forward to recovery, LOL!!

I noticed that as well!! I'm going to switch it out with a ~1800 open water swim and then take the bike to 90 mins.  I was on the same page as you though, thinking that isn't "tapering."

Sounds like you are on the right track . . . I got a response already - here is part of it:

"Good question and thanks for providing the info on your swim. Cut the swim to 60', the ride to 1:45 - 2 hrs' and still put in the 15' run off.

You are right that you are in taper now leading into the 1/2IM. These times for the training can flex based on individuals."

Check out the 10 day weather forecast for Lawrence- it's not looking too shabby! As of right now, the highs are only supposed to be about 84 next Sunday! Now we just need those winds and thunderstorms to stay away.

weatherchannel.com sucks!  They change their forcasts like ever 2 hours.  It can be sunny and 10% chance of rain and then the next day it changes to 70% storms and windy. Then the next day it changes back.  I'm talking even the forcast for like 2 days down the road. It really sucks.

The heat is on, up here in Michigan, so I can finally train in 'race-like' conditions. Up until this week it's been around 60 with no humidity, whereas this AM, it was 85 and 70% humidity- big difference!

Def take advantage while you can. Sounds like that will a pretty accurate forcast for the race.

Thunderstorms and tornados just rolled through. Tomorrow forcast is for 20-30mph south wind. I've got a 45 min. OWS and a 90 min bike planned. The way the wind has been lately I'm looking at 12-15mph top speed going into the wind. The only thing that does is cut down on the miles I travel.

So how was training in Kansas today?

I was thinking of you all today- while I was out riding in MI this afternoon, the tornado sirens actually went off! I have never lived in an area with tornadoes before, so I totally freaked!

I hope the winds didn't knock anyone off their bike- that forecast looked nasty out there- 20mph gusting to 35!

Pretty normal. Winds all day long, just got dumped on, hail to the west, more to come...that's in Omaha.

Not to bad! Windy but I didn't have a bike ride today. The wind doesn't bother me to much during the run or swim. It just sucks on the bike. Cloudy, Overcast and warm here in the Wichita metro area!

In the southeast corner today was warm 84* with winds gusting at 37mph and sustained winds at 20-25. There were moments that my top speed was 9 mph going up a long grade hill. It proved tuff. However the ride back with a tailwind was a blast!

The 7 day forecast is looking great so far. The Weatherchannel.com is so bad. Yesterday it was T-storms for next sunday and now today it's says a 0% chance of rain and sunny! At least it changed to a better forecast.
