I'm starting to get stoked for this one. My first tri of the season got cancelled so SOR will be my kickoff. I'll also be at Danskin this weekend serving as an athlete's guide for my mother in law, who is legally blind. That should be interesting.

So 7 days an a wake up.

I was supposed to go downtown last night and get some OWS practice at Ohio Street Beach.  But with the beautiful lightening there wasn't a snowballs chance in Hades that I was going to swim.  And I won't have another opportunity till next Friday.  Soooooo..... Guess I will be putting in a swim Friday in Racine to get used to the waves and water.

Sigh.

You bet.  Probably won't be till later in the afternoon (taking the day off from work anyway).  I'll drop a line here next week when I have a better idea.

Anyone needing a meeting point ,parking spot ,place to rest while your friends or family members race, or just want a place to hang out on Saturday or Sunday I’m opening our house up for use. We have the “essentials” to offer, refrigerator (and anything you can find edible or drinkable inside), coolers, bathrooms, lawn space, secure garage, kiddie pool, chairs, it ‘s up to you if any of these things will make the day easier.

We are located at 508 Romayne Ave, Racine, WI 53402

Home phone 262-639-2198

Cell phone 414-975-7676 or 262664-1798 (wife’s phone-paula)

Walking time (with stroller) down to the transition area/finish line is 18 minutes (seems like 5minutes)

I’m doing the sprint on Saturday and then departing for the Alpine Jimmy Buffett concert around 2:00. So access on Saturday to the house will not be all day.

On Sunday I will be up bright and early to looking forward to cheering everyone on. Someone will be at the house all day .

I just found this e-mail I sent to friend about a year ago , it's funny now to read it. I would have made it about 50 feet. I have no idea what I was thinking and I was not impaired when typing the e-mail.

Just wanted to bounce something off you. There is a sprint triathlon (750 meter swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run) on Saturday in Racine and I’m thinking, why not do it? Obviously not training for it is not a good idea, but I don’t see anything other than the swim that scares me. What do you think?

Besides not owning specialized equipment I can’t see a reason not to give it a try for and giggles.

I have been working out every week at the Y so it’s not totally crazy.

Considering how bad the water was last year, that would have been gruesome.  I'm assuming you didn't do it.

You assummed correctly, I just watched, the funny part is it's taken me a year to get ready and back then I thought 5 days would have been ok.

well, I feel a little tiny bit better about things now....

The cutoff times really scare the bejesus out of me. I emailed HFP and asked if I could opt give up my clyde status, and go with my age group, and they said they would do it.

I guess looking at the Half wave times, it would give me about an extra 15 minutes, which will help. I would really hate to attempt to race, and get DQ because of cutoff times.

Now I just have to cross my fingers that the water warms up a little bit. I was down there Saturday, and it was unbearable....especially since they don't make wetsuits to fit a giant clown like me...

Anybody now if these are legal for the event.

No more "Ice Cream" headaches. Classic "cap" design provides warmth without restricting movement. The adjustable chin strap keeps the cap on after repeated punishment. Made of 2.5mm slickskin, the seams are flat seamed, and a flexible visor keeps irritating drips out of your face.

or the other kind without the visor front , I've seen some from desoto

Pete - the neoprene caps are legal for triahtlons. Unfortunately if you wear one during the swim, you have to continue to wear it at the Jimmy Buffet concert.

No seriously, wearing the neoprene caps (i think some call em 'hotheads') is perfectly ok, but...you have to wear the races swim cap over the top. I am considering investing in one hoping it will prevent me from hypothermia.

crowny2 - 2008-07-15 8:09 AM I'm assuming the water is still that cold?!?!?!

I came out of water dizzy and I had earplugs in, so I'd rather try to keep my bald head a little warmer if possible. It wasn't as cold as some other swims, but it was pretty effing cold.

I also checked on the water link on page two of this thread and it showed that yesterday was about 58.  I can handle that.  It is when it starts to dip below the 55 mark that I start to get a bit worried.  Hoping the temp continues to move upward.

Oh, and how were the waves?  That is really what got me last year and I have had zero practice this year in wave swimming.
