Melon Presser ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a question for the Louisville veterans/IM veterans: Do you take the time in transition to change into bike shorts, and then later again into running shorts? Or do you wear the same outfit the whole way through? I'm considering it's unlikely to dry during a hot humid day and whatever I wear is going to get sweat soaked anyway. Also, I train long in tri shorts, not bike shorts, so I may as well wear the same thing ... I'm also probably going to wear a two-piece, even though it's slower in the water, because it's easier to potty/lube/add sunscreen. What are you guys planning to wear or change into? |

You know the rule....whatever you do, practice it in training first. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Doesn't wearing a tri top in the swim slow you down quite a bit? I have never wore mine without the wetsuit over top so I am wondering how well that works. |

I have never wore mine without the wetsuit over top so I am wondering how well that works. It doesn't slow you down that much, especially if it's good and close-fitting. If it's more like a bike jersey fit, yeah, that could provide a bit of drag. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just ordered an Orca RS1 Swimskin to wear on the swim. I'll probably wear jammers underneath if needed and put on tri shorts after the swim in T1 and wear that and a tri top the rest of the way. I don't see any reason to swim in tri shorts if you are required to go into a change tent anyway and to change it only takes about 10 seconds. Maybe I am missing something. I have found that I prefer to run in my tri shorts over running shorts. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 60 seconds to change for 6 hours of comfort? I change I had two girls last IM comment to me that they were Glad to see someone in running shorts after all the spandex. 26 miles in running shorts is way more comfortable to me But I have to say I was more the exception than the rule. Then again I usually stand alone in a crowd. :-) Mike |

I did a full change in T1 and T2. I swam with a sports bra under the swimsuit, I knew I did not want to wrestle putting that on a wet body. I trained mostly in bike shorts on my long rides due to massive saddle sore issues, so I did IM with those on. Would have loved to be able to do the Mary in running shorts, but my chaffing and the running shorts liner had a massive falling out during training, so I ran in compression shorts. This year I'm hoping to avoid changing, not from a time persepctive....it's just less to think about. |

In 08 I went tri shorts all the way. Jersey for the bike and tri top for the run. I did all my long rides and runs in tri shorts, so I knew it would work on race day. FWIW my tri shorts had dried out before the first Aid station. I plan on using the same plan in 09. Just don't do anything new on race day. |

Lots of things from that day are a blur, but I clearly remeber everytime I saw Mike on the run. |

Not a vet but my .02...I plan on changing for each leg, I'll wear a swimsuit on the swim, bike shorts and jersey on the bike and spandax running shorts on the run. I'm not going to place so the few extra seconds will be worth it. I usually wear a tri singlet for all my races but this one seems a little longer than any I've done before. |

We'll leave on Wednesday and get to Louisville on Thursday. We'll leave on Tuesday. I figure it will be less stress to have a few days to acclimate. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm staying at the Galt House too. Can't remember if I got 2 nights or 3. I better call them back and find out. I booked it a few months ago and can't remember now. I'm losing my mind. I would like to get out there Thurs and leave Mon though. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm not sure when I'm getting in. I'll have my last final on Friday morning, and plan on taking off immediatly after. But it's a good 9 hour drive from Missouri. I know check in is on Friday, so I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do. Might try to take that test early |

I'm staying at the Hyatt Regenecy for 136.85 a night per room, tax included. They have a 15% tax on hotel rooms in Lou. I asked the reservation agent and he said there is no problem with taking bikes into the room. The Hyatt is also close to the finish line. I'll be there Tues or Wed race week, but I'll be staying with some relatives until Sat night, at which time I'll move to the hotel. |
