jezzieswims - 2009-02-04 7:40 AM 2 months to go to race day. How is everyone doing?

my swimming sucks, but I only started it up again last week (ha, nothing like cramming for a half IM).  My biking should be fine since I'm already do 80 mile rides.  Run is coming back okay since I resumed running a few weeks ago too.

Going well.  Got the new bike this month so I am itching to ride everyday.  I have 4 rides per week on the books, and Feb will be my core bike miles.  RUn is in maintain mode and will try some speed work and probably two 16 milers in March.  Swim is...uh, coming along.

Gonna start the Club rides in the Valley on Saturdays and see how that is.

Feeling strong on the swim, and working on the run. Still a long way from where I want to be. Bike is lacking right now, but starting to do longer sessions. Doing my best to be ready.

Eagleman is now my A race since don't think I'll be where I want for HIMCA. Work just killing me right now, and way too much travel.

PS. I usually dontt do this, but 2009 is upon us, and I'm again working toward Operation Rebound fund-raising this year. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to click on the link and make some pledges.  Let's support our fellow soldiers who come back from the Middle East and who have lost a leg, an arm or somthing else. Let's show our support toward them. Our Operation Rebound California Team last year raised over $180,000.00 and this was enough to provide new prostetics for over 14 military soldiers, in which 4 of them are racing in California with us this year.

If you need motivation, just come and see those guys, then you will wonder who are we to think we can't do what we do, and that is the sport of Triathlon. Also, two para-olympians will be there racing relays, in which OZ who won the Gold medal in hand-cycling is racing. They are an amazing group of people, and great friends you make.

Hooyaaa!!!

Where is everybody staying?  I booked at the best western in oceanside...about 1 exit from the race and only $80...I stayed there a few weeks ago for Carlsbad marathon and rooms were decent, with hot tub!

I'm staying at my parents house which is about 1 1/2 miles from the transition in Oceaside. Kind of why I've been doing it for the last 3 years. Give me time to visit them a little while there.

What about everyone else?

I'll be staying in my own bed for this one. I live 20 minutes from the race site.

I'm staying at the Worldmark which is right at the Harbor up on the hill. We have stayed there in the past and it works out really well.

Either Best Western Oceanside or Best Western Marty's.   Trying to figure out which one will work better to get to the race site in the morning without a car.  Family's along and they'll come watch the race, but don't want to make them get up for the pre race stuff.

I stayed at BW Marty's last year and it worked out nicely. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have a car. The road into Oceanside is busy with traffic and dark the morning of the race. If you are driving, I didn't find parking near the pier too difficult race morning.

Hey all!

I'm staying at my brothers in San Diego. It'll be a 30-40 minute drive race morning.

Only 53 more days until race morning! Running and swimming are going great and my biking is a bit below where it should be.

Unfortunately I will not be joining you all in Oceanside.  Due to kids being sick on and off all winter long and missing too much school my wife and I had to pull out of the race as we will not be able to take the kids out of school for three extra days.  I am bumming as I was really looking forward to my first half, and a family trip to So Cal.  But sometimes being a responsible parent gets in the way of being a weekend warrior triathlete.

Good luck to everyone and I hope that you all meet or exceed your goals for the race.  Time to focus on some local Oly and sprint races this spring and then start to ramp up the volume for IMFL in November.

Have a great race all.

Brad

Hey Brad,

Too bad about not being able to do this one, it had to be a tough decision, but you'll be that much more determined for the next race

For those interested, on Feb 28th a group of us from LATri will be doing the bike portion and one loop of the run for practice.

Is this training session still going on for this Saturday?

Saddly, I will not be able to be there this weekend, since the FBI requested my assistance and have to work this weekend. Ugh!!

Have a great time, should be nice weather.

So as to be less terse   I heard there was a misunderstanding as to what parts of the course/base the club wanted to access, LA tri thought it was the backside, the Marines thought otherwise.  Guess who won?

um, yeah, Paul, I'm right behind you.  What size bike were you riding again?  Once I get the bullet riden saddle replaced it might be a little small
