Brian, the member TTL of goal column for the Big East is identical to team members hit overall column and it shouldn't be. Good luck w/ the bachelor dad gig. At least she only left you one rather than all three.

Daremo- congrats! Pics and stats when you get a chance.

Brad:

I ran across that too. I double checked the numbers for week 5 (150min + 60min + 45min) and they appear to be correct; the discrepancy must be in a previous week. That is why I utilized the formula in cell R9 to calculate your monthly total of 852 vs. goal of 840.   If you look in cell P9, I have you down as completing the goal + therefore credited towards the team percentage.

Alright so here is our data... Finally!  Bike group is meeting in 10 min... gotta go

Cheers

James

Not to be a stickler but your  "Member TTL % of Goal" is less than the 100% showing.  Sorry I am just trying to save our lousy Big 12 hides from the shame of the loser's avatar :^ )

I agree that it should be less then 100% but the spreadsheet calculates that line as the total team distance / total team distance pleaged.  In our case as a team we did all the miles but had a few member fall short of their goal.  In my opinion that number should be the average of all the completion % for your team, but I just didn't want to mess with the standard spreadsheet we were supposed to use.  I'm not trying to pull one by anyone here .

Cheers

James

James:

I agree about the averaging of completion percentage.  Take a closer look at the formula used for the "Member TTL % of Goal".  It should be the average of the individual percentage completed of each individual goal pledged.

For some reason on my sheet that is not what it is calculating.  I didn't change anything on it so it must have been that way from the beginning.  If you take the ave of our % completes it works out to 98.47%.

Team Captains:

Okay ... the results are in. Having had opportunity to review + comment on the monthly totals and having heard no other requests than the above, the final spreadsheet is attached ...

... showing that we have two teams that had 100% of their challengers reach their monthly goal.  The rules of the challenge peg them as co-winners of the March Madness Bike Challenge!

Congratulations to the

 Big 10 + WCC/PAC 10

These teams have the honor of deciding among themselves the avatars + signature lines the ACC team will display for the month of April.

The seven member ACC had some stellar results but was hampered by the law of quantitative averaging ... the lower quantity of numbers to average means each number has a larger bearing on the average of the total.

In the end, though, we are all winners in that collectively we have racked up some pretty hefty mileage and time in the saddle.  This is the training that is going to pay dividends this season ... when you get out of T1 and your heart is still pounding from the swim, remember the time you logged in March made you well prepared to handle the big leg of the race. (I know that I would not have been able to hang with Brett (Rocketman) for the mountain metric century this weekend without having spent the March Challenge time in the saddle.)

Thanks for participating.  It is the good natured participants that made not only this challenge fun but BT a great community.

On a final note, Rick (Daremo) is the true winner of the challenge; baby Aiden Thomas Carter - 7 lbs. 15.5 oz., 21" long - was born on Saturday. According to his blog, Mom and baby are doing fine.

I knew that would have been the results. After getting humiliated in the NCAA tourney, it is no shock that we went down in the challenge as well. (But on another note, the lady Terps have had a great run!!)

We have earned our humiliation, so bring it on .....

(I did meet my goal and I'm also going for the 700 club this month, so I'll continue to log the miles).

Craig (Cathrone) = Big 10 Team Captain
Michele (Zagagirl) = WCC + PAC 10 Team Captain

Craig, meet Michele; Michele, meet Craig.

Victorious captains, congratulations on leading your team to victory.  You heard read Rick's comments, the ACC Team is willing to take their lumps ... and it is time for the other shoe to drop.

It is up to you two to build consensus among your team members and each other in determining the ACC Team's avatar + signature lines. So as not to drag this on forever, if consensus cannot be reached by Friday morning, then it'll be deemed that mercy has been shown + the ACC team members get a reprieve.

CONGRATULATIONS TEAMS!

edit: Madcow's suggestion is not a bad idea ...

I asked the Big 10 team (co-champions) for suggestions.  I only got one suggestion plus I came up with one of my own (guess we're too busy training Laughing).  I took a shot at scaling these to avatar size.  If there are no more suggestions by Friday, I say each ACC member use one of these or a picture of themselves in their bike shorts (as mentioned above).  Makes no difference to me.
