I gotta write fast since I gotta get going but I like the telephone call.  Years from now with 4 or 5 kids in tow he will look at you, knowing you hate the phone, and feel very important that you sucked up your fear and CALLED HIM.  Good move.  I still look at my wife like that...she hates the phone, but she called me, too.  Good Luck, BTW. 

Ditto here. I was giving off the just friends vibe with my husband when we started dating because I didnt' know what I wanted. Then, while we were home on Christmas break (this was in college) it dawned on me that I missed him and wanted to be with him. So I called him. The rest is history....

What is this?????  This guy shops with you, goes on a trip with you, asks you for a goodnight kiss ... and you think he thinks that you think we think everyone thnks ... ??????  Come on now!  He clearly reciprocates your feelings but having been shut down once (twice if you count the letter), he is not too eager to jump into the fray again.  In these politically correct times, if a man asks a woman out once and is rejected that is okay.  But if he keeps insisting, then THAT is considered harassment and subject to legal action!   

When you meet with him, look him in the eyes and say: "I really REALLY like you .... as a matter of fact, I can't stop thinking about that kiss you offered me that night ...."

Deep breaths. It's gonna be ok. This is good old Joe, remember, the awesome guy that you are in love with? He's not gonna laugh at you. He's probably as nervous as you are. Probably worried that you want to give him the friend talk again.

I still think you should just surprise him before Thursday. Show up at his place and just kiss him. Get it over with and your nerves will settle down. I don't think I could tolerate the nervousness until THURSDAY!

No.  Sounds like in a clucky clinky clanky sort of way the conversation went good.  He was happy to hear from you and more than willing to see you, even last night if you'd have pressed it.  So, deep breaths and just be yourself on Thursday.  Be honest.  Lay it out there.  Tell him EVERYTHING you've told us (except the LOVE part, and the part how you've talked this over with all the mutual friends) and just let it happen.

I started reading this thread yesterday and when I got back to it there was just too much there!  Man do you have it bad!  Been there, done that and I am married to her now.

If it is any consolation when I finally worked up enough courage to ask my wife out on a first date se didn't realize it was a date and invited several other mutual friends with.  We jooke about it now but I had to go through the whole process a second time.  She got it and it was worth it!
