April's totals:
Bike:13h 47m 32s  - 219.98 Mi
Run:11h 16m 21s  - 67.45 Mi
Swim:2h 10m 22s  - 5422 Yd
Strength:2h 35m
Hiking:2h 00m

Not a great month really but I guess with all that was going on it is ok.  I was going to set a goal of 100 miles running in May but then realized that would be too big a jump so I set it for 80.  Still requires me to be accountable.  Clearly there will be no swimming, giving that there is no location to swim.  Biking is the big unknown.  If I find a regular route I should do ok but I am hoping for lots of mountain bike miles so the time might end up ok but with the miles looking a little sad.

I decided since there is no swimming anymore and I really love the HIM distance that I am going to try and find some endurance DU's.  I know there are a few out there.  Pacific Crest (where I did my first HIM) has one so that might end up on my schedule for next year.  With no swimming I should get lots of biking/running in and I should crush them right?  lol  I need to scope out a few more.

April's totals:
Bike:20h 04m 40s - 397.28 Mi
Run:14h 08m 30s - 106.52 Mi
Swim:3h 58m 10s - 11200 Yd

Having trouble locating a pool .  Not a great month.  Historically, April has been one of my best volume months but lots of stuff got in the way this month.  10 day vacation did not help my swimming situation.  Happy with my run but want to get more long bikes rides in.

Goal for May:  Double my Swim volume.  Want to get around 20000yds swimming this month.  6 weeks to my HIM.

Had a good run this morning.  8.4 miles with 6 at M-Pace or HIM race pace.  Legs were still a bit sore but overall a good run.

Jason:  Just have fun with the TT.  You are going to suffer a little bit but your fitness is what it is (and its good!).

Elaine:  Sorry to hear about the job.  I am sure something better will pop up and maybe with a management team that knows how to deal with people.

well, April was a hair better than March

Bike:22h 08m 38s  - 425.2 Mi
Run:7h 49m 28s  - 50.66 Mi
Swim:

6h 00m 40s  - 16000 M

Little short on bike miles, the run was on target till the injury, and i am happy with the swim.

goals for May, vacation is gonna mess it up a bit, as i will have no bike for two weekends

bike 500 miles

run 75-100m and not re injure myself, increase run frequency, not distance.

swim 30k meters.

I will be in Marco Island from May 5-12, i will run and swim everyday, i will not be logging, but i will catch up when i get home on the 13th or 14th.

Hey Rudy:  You can rent a road bike from Trek in Naples if you are interested.  It is only like $15 a day with helmet and spare kit.  I rented from the Estero store.

My advice - run first thing in the a.m. The humidity destroyed me during a 8 mile run at 9 a.m. a couple weeks ago.  After that...every run was at 6:00 a.m. LOL.

Enjoy your vacation.  It is awesome down there.

Good morning!

Swim last night was good - we did some longer sets and then a bunch of vertical kicking as a group.  Kind of funny to watch everyone's heads bobbing at the water.

Stayed up too late last night after swimming.  DH and I went to a pub after swimming to have a beer (a half pint for me) and share a plate of nachos.  And DH had to do his taxes before the cut-off (Canada) so i stayed up a little more.  That meant no wake up early.  Which is okay because all of my bike shorts are drying after being washed last night.

Tonight, the plan is some trainer time with big gear intervals and a t-run.

Elaine, sorry to hear about the job. That's really hard not to know what the issue was or have the opportunity to address it.  But as the others said, something else will present itself and its better to be at a job where you know you fit and want to be. Just sucks in the short term.

Kim, the plan for duathlons sounds good! How's the new place?

March totals:

April's totals:
Bike:15h 04m 35s  - 211.66 Mi
Run:9h 44m 13s  - 53.91 Mi
Swim:

49m 19s  - 2700 Yd

Thanks for the sympathy and well wishes. I've already gone to a HIIT class and I'm working on job applications for most of the day.

The more I think about it, the more I think they hired me, and then realized that I wasn't needed - or didn't fit into the budget. Hence the lack of reasoning and suddenness of the whole thing.

Elaine - it's great that you're keeping yourself busy. I think trying to maintain some sort of routine would be what I would do too. Wake up and have something to go to like the gym or something ... and, it's probably true that it had little do with you - the classic 'it's me, not you' - but in this case very true.

So, here is my month. I didn't always add my meterage for the swim - cause frankly i couldn't always remember what I did at swim group.  I think it's a solid month for ironman build

April's totals:
Bike:20h 04m 31s  - 410.14 KM
Run:13h 04m 16s  - 122.75 KM
Swim:8h 59m 35s  - 9120 M
Floor Hockey:1h 30m
Yoga:22m

I took one rest day every week with i think only one weenie day when i was nursing my sore heel.  Also, all the stuff with my mom took a toll mentally all month.  And i won't be able to add much for the next week or so but for May I want to see more bike time.  I was very happy with my consistency and dedication to get it in.

Actually, i am hoping once my sister's shower/bachelorette is done this week that i can start adding either a swim or a bike to more gradually add more volume in those two.  But I have a plan. I will follow it.

Bike:13h 48m 30s  - 253.42 Mi
Run:18h 23m 53s  - 125.93 Mi
Swim:48m 13s  - 2000 Yd
April wasn't as good as I had hoped for with the only real positive being the run, although even that was under planned totals.  Hopefully May will see at least the bike and run volume getting up to the proper levels and maybe even the swim with any luck.

April's totals: Bike: 8h 38m 41s  - 235.08 KM Run: 6h 06m 26s  - 59.9 KM Swim: 2h 10m  - 6500 M. Not what I would optimally like to have done but it is what happened. I'll have to try and make it better for May. Had a long night on call last night but I plan to get a ride in today after a nap. GoT will get me through. Going to need to find something new to watch on the trainer. Thinking maybe The Bourgias or something....hmmmm

TSimone - 2012-05-01 3:08 PM Not tri related but a kid boast. I've been working with my 9 year old on her 1/2 mile time so she can achieve the "presidential" award in her PE class. They had to do a sprint under a certain time, so many pushups, flexibility tests and the half mile in 3:53 or less. The first 2 times she ran it she was over by about 40 seconds and demoralized. Found out she ran it today in 3:48. She actually tracked down my wife at recess so she could call and tell me. Very proud of her!

Now to work on her swim and bike.

Oh that's awesome! Congrats to your daughter!

Did a 1800y TT in masters class yesterday.  Just longer than a mile (1760y).

Goal was to pace it like an Oly or HIM swim, and did fairly well...29:24 (1:38 per 100y).  My second 900 was only 8 seconds slower than the first.

I tend to be a faster pool swimmer, I suppose because of my push off the wall...so I'm hoping that the drafting benefits of an OWS will compensate and I'll be able to swim that pace for my Oly...maybe 1:45ish for my HIM.

Run:18h 28m 52s  - 123.57 Mi
Swim:6h 39m 19s  - 20700 M

Highest run milage to date, which surprised me to be honest as I thought I had a couple of low milage weeks.

Think I'm going to really have to up the bike milage this month!

Elaine, that sucks majorly. Reminds me of the time I was "let go" because the guy I was shadowing didn't start work until 10 and they wouldn't let me change my start time from 9 to 10 so I had to sit around being totally bored for an hour!

A little late posting the April numbers:

April's totals:
Bike:14h 30m 47s - 228.8 Mi
Run:10h 41m 29s - 58.47 Mi
Swim:2h 56m 02s - 9912 Yd

Was hoping to equal what I did in March, but considering I raced and recovered a bit at the beginning of the month, I have to step back and be pleased. Thanks to Rusty for the inspire...I feel better about what I have done.
