I bought my first pair of lightweight neutral shoes the other day (because they were on sale and under $50, pretty much my only criteria other than "they fit", which is a hard enough one to fulfil, you can relate) ... New Balance 630v2. They weigh less than half of what any of my others do! Also, at the end of a long run when heavy shoes are soaked, they become real clodhoppers.

The lighter, more flexible sole and uppers material also means my giant flipper feet can hang nicely over the sides--truth is no matter how wide the shoe, my feet will do that so it's actually really lovely to have material that doesn't push back at all.

They're purty!!  LIKE!!  And under $50?!  Woooo hooooooo!!!

Hey good morning everyone. I'm very far behind in catching up on everyone. Had a bit of a trying week but so glad it's Friday and the weekend is right around the corner.  Hope everyone is doing well! Will try my best to read back a few pages!

I want to share some success with you guys. In January I made the commitment to myself that I was going to really put in the effort in the pool this year. I'm never going to be a better swimmer if I don't try, and swimming once per week is not trying. So I've been swimming hard sets 3 times per week.

Today was the big test. I just did a 2000 strait swim to see my improvement. My last test was 46 minutes, today was 39:46.

6 minutes faster over 2000 yards in only 3 weeks of work I'm ecstatic!

Oh and to top it off it's my biggest swim volume week ever and my biggest swim volume month ever (and we still have next week to go)

Feeling strong going into Galveston 70.3 in April

Nice going! There is a challenge group that is doing 50 miles by May if you to follow along to keep it going. Doesn't exactly fit your race schedule, but hey, use what's available to get it done.

Holy carp!  (see what I did there?  That's some fishy awesomeness.

Seriously impressive improvement.  Your race season will be that much more enjoyable (although I have to be careful not to race with you - I don't want even MORE people beating me to the beer tent).

Yup. Me too.

Speaking of which, it wouldn't be overkill to take three pairs of runnies (trail, lightweights, and plain old) and two pairs of bike shoes (old and new) to Perth with me for my 4-week stay, would it?

Come to think of it, it's not like I really need to pack anything else

Johnathan, that is AWESOME!  Great job.

I, on the other hand, had THE WORST swim of my life.  Although, someone pointed out, I didn't drown, so how bad could it be .  But I was almost in tears.  I am frustrated that I can't keep up with those that I used to, and the coach said I was doing something, but I can't understand how to not do it, as I feel like I am not doing it...Grrrrr.  I know that my "speed" such as it is will come back (I didn't swim for a couple months due to injury) and it was likely just a bad swim, but no likey!  I did feel a little bit better when we all realized that the coach had made a mistake in counting and the main set that he drew up was ~3500m, not the 2500m that he stated it was...

That's a big mistake! I'm sure your speed will come back. While you were off healing those other fishies were swimming away. You'll catch up

I know, right.  I didn't finish it either way, but I felt better about the fact that I was halfway through, rather than 1/4ish!

Speaking of swimming, this morning I arrived at the pool only to realize I left my swim bag at home.  Thanks to the 'spare parts' of others, I was able to beg/borrow goggles and a cap.  Let's just say it was extra cold walking out to the car without having been able to towel off and add to that oddness of walking through the parking lot with a wet bathing suit in my hand!
