Congrats Janet!  Welcome to the addiction.
BTW, you handled that wait very well...I would have been a wreck.

soccermom15 - 2009-05-04 3:22 PM Hey there.  Well, I did it.  I survived my first tri and didn't do awful Smile.  Actually I think it went pretty well.  The swim was a little harder than I expected, the bike was tough but doable, and the run went well.  Race report is up on the RR Forum (sorry I don't know how to link it here) if anyone wants to read it.  I think the hardest part of the whole day was the 3 hour wait to get in the pool - for me and my husband.  But when you've got 800 people lining up for a serpentine pool swim it's going to take a while.

I'm going to take it easy this week (promised my husband I would) and then next week it's back into training.  I've got another sprint in August and it's got a longer and hillier bike ride than this one did, so I need to concentrate on that for the next couple of months along with trying to get enough running in for a decent half marathon in September.

I'll be back later to try to catch up with everyone.  Have a good day!
Janet

Way to go, Janet!  3 hour wait = mental toughness (or a great song collection).

That Nike com. is awesome.  I don't understand those blurry suits they were wearing thoughSurprised.

Swimming with a neoprene cap is a choking experience!  I swam 900 yrds with it this morning and it was pretty tough getting used to the thing.  I definitely need to make sure I shave during race day.  The chin strap is tight and pulls your facial hair.

Wow, we are a postin' bunch!  I am way behind!  I have been extremely busy with school and work and a little training.  I get back to the forums and I am 200+ posts behind.

Maybe I will just go from here.  Sounds like some great personal accomplishments over the last week.  Congrats to everyone!

Who's racing this weekend?  I have another 40 mi bike ride on Saturday over a similar course as Sat before last.  Let's hope I learned something about hydration and nutrition!

-Andy

no training or racing for me this weekend.  It's a father and son weekend, we're off to the Bronx zoo one day and the aquarium the next while mom is on a 4 day excursion in South Beach tanning and drinking with her girlfriends..

Thanks everyone - it really was an incredible experience and yes, I am planning to do it again in AugustSmile.

The best part?  Hard to say - crossing the finish line obviously was a great moment, but I think I'd have to say the best part was when I was on that last uphill on the bike route and even though I still had to run a 5k, I knew I was going to be able to finish.  It made me realize that I can do anything if I just set my mind to it and put in the effort.

TrevorC - 2009-05-04 3:36 PM Hey Janet, what is your "DH"...Probably a silly question, I'm thinking "dam$ husband?"
Let the ridicule ensue.

There are times when that would be appropriateSmile, but in this case it means "dear husband".  He's put up with a lot over the last 20 weeks while I got ready for this, and the fact that he came with me and stood around for 6 hours while I was waiting for my start and doing the race means a lot to me.  I know a lot of husbands (or wives) wouldn't have done that.  He's very special and I'm lucky to have him.

from waaaayyy back on page 37...

"That's the part of the ride that I was most concerned about - apparently it's nicknamed "the wall".  Not exactly a confidence builder for someone that doesn't bike well, lol!  I guess I can always push my bike if I have to (though I would obviously prefer not toSmile) - whatever it takes to cross that finish line!"

Pretty cool how your biggest concern turned into one of your favorite parts of the day!  You Rock!!!

I have a Sprint this weekend in my hometown...Should be fun. Staying at my parent's house, Dad will take my to the course early in the morning. Wife and kids and hopefully my Mom will come and watch. Probably some other relatives as well. I'm looking forward to it, as hopefully it will motivate a few of them to catch the fever, or at least say "hey if Trevor can get back into shape and do it, so can I."
It's on Mother's Day, so my DW(Can i say that Janet) is being great about sharing her day.

Stan- I agree with the you.... Those caps suck!  I prefer to use 2 caps.  1 Silicone, and the other is whatever the race gives you.

Andy- Hopefully you learned from last experience, and already know what you need to work on....

Racing for me this weekend..... Nothing---I don't evening know what training I am doing this weekend... Probably something to do with a swim, something to with a run, and something to do with a swim, but not real sure....

Tracy how is the body feeling???

I've been waiting for the body to start hurting - and it hasn't really. Guess that means I had good conditioning and managed the nutrition well.   I went to the gym last night.  Figured I'd better take advantage of the high motivation I've got going on right now.   I kept everything light with the lifting, but was amazed at how light that had to be to not tax myself.  We're talking on average of 20 lbs lighter on everything having to do with the legs.  At the end I was feeling a little light headed and STARVING (I've been starving since the race).  Bought 3 hard boiled eggs at the gym's cafe and a smoothie for the drive home, then had dinner.  This morning I feel more sore than usual - so I guess I'll force myself to take the week off.  Give the body lots of protein and build back up the glycogen stores.  I lost 3 lbs during the race and am still a little light.  I'd like to gain that back as muscle and not water.

As a treat for myself I bought 2 new workout outfits!  Very girly to buy clothes and very triathlete to buy workout clothes Tongue out

I couldn't agree with you more.  I had that feeling at the 24m of the Green Bay marathon a couple of years ago.  Short of falling over and dying I new I would BQ and it was about the best feeling. Even better than the finish line.

Job well done Janet!

I love to reward myself with workout clothes too.  My husband always laughs at me because I hate spending a lot of money on work clothes and feel guilty when I do.  But, I love to buy workout clothes.  Sometimes I have to actually tell myself - No, you do not need another ______ (fill in whatever is appropriate - shirt, pair of socks, shorts, bra, etc) because what you have is falling off the shelf!  I don't seem to mind spending money when it is for something fun - and I have been eyeing up a new pair of sunglasses!

I have been getting over a cold so I did not do anything over the weekend (except for replacing the kitchen faucet - it was dripping like crazy and driving everyone including the dog nuts!).  I am getting back at it this week though.  But, I was looking over my logs from last year at this time, and I am feeling way behind!  I haven't even registered for any races yet because I am afraid!!  However, on a good note, I have lost 11 of the pounds I gained while on Prednisone!  Only 7 to go (oh yeah, and the extra 10 I gained over the winter!Surprised).

And, to whoever recommended the Over The Moon fat free chocolate milk many many pages ago, you rock!  I bought some and it is awesome!  I love drinking chocolate milk after a good workout!

Train hard and safe!
