Member 36 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Very easy track session last night, with plenty of stretching in between laps and another 50 min run this morning. ITB is still in the background, so just have to hold myself in check. Slowly slowly build the run back up. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We are just under 4 months out, wondering how long your long swims, bikes and runs are? I know it varies depending on what other races you are doing and lots of other factors. Today is 6 weeks since my knee scope...I've been pain free for weeks, started running 2 weeks ago, cycling is solid. My long stuff is odd as I was doing 3-4 hour rides & 1:30-2:00 runs back in late March early April training for HIM. Now my long runs are half on treadmill and half in the pool water running so did hour last week. I have 3 hour ride tomorrow. |

Expert 885 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Long rides on the schedule are 3-4 hours right now, although I'm doing a century ride this weekend to test my fitness and nutrition on the bike. Long runs are 1:00-1:15 right now, but looking at the schedule, that is about to change. I swam 3500 last night and that is the longest swim I've done in a while, but my plan has me doing 3 swims a week now instead of two, so swim volume in general should be going up. I'm following the competitive "Be Iron Fit" plan. I'm surprised the long runs aren't longer at this point, but I'm trusting the plan and following what it says on the run. Even though I've done lots of marathons and know I can handle the increased run volume, I've never combined it with the bike and swim volume I'm doing now and don't want to risk injury. I'll go longer on the bike and swim than the plan occasionally, but I'm trusting the plan for the run. |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Like Briana (Bar92) I'm following the Competitive 'Be Ironfit' program. Long rides at 3.5 hours. Although I've been fudging by going longer some of the time. I'm planning to do a century each day this weekend at the MS 150. I haven't ridden over 4 hours though this season, so I'm a little concerned. Running: I had some foot injury problems but seem to be mostly past them and following the plan. I am worried that there are not very many long runs in the plan, as the run is what bit me on my last IM. The last six miles took almost two hours. Before that I was in the 10 to 12 minutes per mile pace. I wanted to do lots of 18 to 20 mile runs prior to the IM. With my early season injuries I just don't think I'll get to that point. The plan sure does not have that in it. on the swim we just jumped to 3600 yards three times a week. I'm easing into that. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've been pretty bike heavy this year due to inability to train the run properly due to nagging injuries. Story of my life. Swimming. humph. USED to be fun. I had found swim nirvana and a fun masters program but witout warning the facility drastically reduced our beloved masters coach's hours and gave masters to the new guy. Lets just say I don't care for him and could care less about it anymore. I'd honestly rather swim on my own but I like the 50 meter pool so I am sucking it up for the month. If they rent the pool to the completely obnoxious high school team again I'll be out of there for sure. So in summary my swimming is fair. I usually swim 3 days a week year round bumping up in to the 3800-4000 meter range. My bike is solid. I'll never be a good runner so my goal is that I want biking 112 miles to feel easy. I did a HIM aquabike and I realized that it was easy for me to bike 56 miles so I want that for the bike at IMFL. Honestly I don't feel like no matter what do it will be possible for me to have anything remotely good happen on an IM run. I'm just like a glacier on the run. I just try to get it done as quickly and with the least amount of injury as possible. I DEFINATELY did not get the running gene. |

Expert 1360 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've done several 3500 m swims so far, basically once a week since april, but I've had weeks where I've been out of town and no access to pool. Usually it has been 3x1000 m with 1 minute rest with warm up and cool down (just over 1 hour), but I have also done two workouts that were 2x1500 m with 1 minute rest. Didn't have any problem finishing the distances, but my 1500 m times aren't that close (off by about 20-30 seconds). At the beginning of June, my coach decreased my swims to two times per week since my swimming is solid and I don't really need the extra session each week, the extra time would be better served a) having a rest day and b) doing either long run or long bike bricks, so know I am alternating one week with a brick run off of my long bike, and the next week doing a short bike ride before my long run. Long run up to 2.5 hours before my half marathon (mid may) and 2 hours before my half IM (late june). bike ride up to 3.5 hours. Haven't done anything long since my half IM 2 weeks ago though (first recovering, then sick, then bad back). Good news is I went for a run this morning. pitifully slow with a walk break, but my back seems to be doing stellar the rest of the day so at the very least i didn't make it worse. I wasn't feeling great on the run, probably since i'm still recovering from my cold? hopefully I'll be fully back at it quickly. Edited by Daffodil 2010-07-13 6:32 PM |

Member 36 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Swimming, most sessions are up to or over 3000, biking well its my strength, did 225 miles last Sunday, but running has been on stop for 12 weeks due to ITB, just started back lightly and I'm building up slowly, hoping to do a couple of half marathons in September and October without injury fingers crossed. Plan ? Well I'm following the Pebble Plan its swim a bit bike a lot and run a bit. It will be Ironman No 8 so hopefully I have learnt enough to get me to sub 12 which is my main goal Edited by Pebble 2010-07-14 4:27 AM |

Expert 939 Tulsa | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Been doing lots of 65-70 mile rides so far on the weekend. Been picking up the pace avg to around 21 for those as well. The next few weeks i'll start doing 3.5-4hrs on the bike. Just finished a double marathon last week so i'm not to worried about the run except for nutrition. Swim....I've got one 2200 swim in at IMKansas....And thats about it for the past 7 months lol. I'll get in the pool in september. |

Logistics would be complicated, and the whole experience would probably be impacted since transition would have to be moved out there, I would think..? That would certainly take away from the beach experience and attendance from spectators, etc. Here's hoping the new cap shuts the spill down and there's time to address the cleanup efforts before the event... man, what a mess this has created for so many. Wow. Reading through everyone's training efforts and how much time and how many miles are being put in so far makes my efforts look weak! I've been managing my training on my own, and I have to say it's very challenging. Fitting it into real life and my available bandwidth, without impacting my home life and family is crazy. I've been setting my training up to be incremental based on my season's race goals. So I trained for an OLY last month. I have a sprint coming up next month, but this next round of training is based off of a HIM I'm doing in September. Then I will need to build on the HIM training to prep for the full Ironman in November... whew. I'm beginning to understand why so many of you have invested in a personal trainer! I would love to have a scheduled already created for me so I can just execute it... |

Regular 72 Baltimore, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm willing to swim in a pool if thats my only option just to complete this thing! Im currently in a peak week of 3500m swims, 50-60 mile bikes and 16 mile runs. Feeling pretty good which has been a confidence booster for my upcoming HIM in sept. I'm definitely a runner so that hasn't been bad, I actually seem to run my best off the bike. Somehow managed a 6:11 pace in my Oly (5 mile run) last week. My challenge is to keep my pace up in my long rides. I ride a lot of rolling hills around here. I need to take it out on the long flat roads and work on rhythm and pacing. Will be in Illinois in August so I'll have plenty of flat space to ride out there. Oh and I tried the Infinit Nutrition on my last long brick and long rides. Not bad. I like the flavor and the fact there are not dyes in them. I still snack with the drinks but its good to know I can tolerate the drinks. |
