Observatory hill has lots of construction so does Old University Ave. Hope its completed by race day. Food - Second the recommendation for the Old Fashion. Also check out Roman Candle Pizza/Pasta. Brocache Irish pub on the cap square. Lots of small good places on Willy Street and Atwood. |

Veteran 238 Mukwonago, WI | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread HawkeyeNation - 2011-08-25 2:38 PM I did IMMOO last year and yes the swim is brutal but it tends to flatten out near the start of the 2nd lap, I really don't think wave starts would help, u tend to get ran over from the last wave or you are running over the wave in front of you, in all seriousness the WTC needs to put a "reasonable" cap on participants, I believe most if not all ironman race courses are being overwhelmed with the number of racers, I don't believe most courses can handle 2700-3000 racers, the bike courses are getting packed too! I heard alot of this from the LP and CDA participants too! I guess it is what it is!
I agree! My biggest problem last year was with swimming over the top of people. I hate to swim too close to people! I feel like I'm either going to drown somebody or get kicked myself. Yeah, I know that's triathlon.... It took me about 1.5 laps last year to finally get fed up with being nice and giving people space and to finally push my way past the crowd. Once I did though, it was fine and the swim was actually enjoyable.

These two sections will have hay bails and its a good idea to find out what speed you can take them.... Just to get the blood flowing...there is a bike path on the lake front that people use.....brown_dog_us - 2011-08-24 5:25 PM Does anyone know a good section of the course to do a short ride a day or two prior to the race? Bump Last year at IM Lou we did the out and back section (about 10 miles) the day before the race to check the bike out and get the blood flowing. Does anyone know of a good part of the course to ride? Garfoot is probably the most deceiving. The steep downhill on Timber you see coming and have time to brake. Garfoot - the 1st right turn is MUCH sharper than you think it is going into it. I believe from what I heard, there were several crashes in this area this year with people coming to do course recon. If you have never done the course - I think that is the trickiest section - but if you ride it smart -- it is so very fun too!
Thanks, That sounds perfect. |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I know this is early but i thought I would just throw this out there for a BT meet up. Even though there is no more official Gatorade swim they still have the swim start area set up nicely by Friday. I like to get a swim in around 8:30 or so and just kind of hang out and suck up the atmosphere. Then head over for registration when it opens up at 10:00. Hope this works out for others and we can put some names with faces. |

I looked at my next weeks schedule and still have a long run at the end of the week, what does everyones next few weeks look like? I had a 90 minute run yesterday that seemed harder than it should have. Plan calls for running short the next 4 days and then 70 minute long run next Thursday. Getting shorter and shorter. |

800 meters on the long legs, 200 on the turn legs. Buoys on the long legs will be mark 1,2,3 and you can use that as a reference to how far you are into that leg of the swim. |

Special food, creature comforts? I don't plan to stop at special needs unless it becomes absolutely necessary, but in the bag I will put: Wipes, Chamois Butter and an "oh $%# bag" which contains advil, benadryl, tums, immodium, bandaids and vasaline. On the run I will also add a pair of socks, a pair of shorts and if rain is imminent a spare pair of shoes. |

I am assuming they don't exist for this race? A bunch of people, me included, used this service last year: http://www.myathletelive.com/.I don't think they did/do text messaging, but the real-time tracking via web was very handy for my support crew. I did not reserve it in advance, just rented it at the expo. I think they may have sold out, however, so renting ahead of time may not be a bad idea. |

I will do a quick spinny thru the gears at some point just to make sure everything is in working order, before bike check in. In 2009 we rode a bit on the bike path... I think we went about 14 miles just running thru the gears spinning it out. I think the whole thing took about 45 min. This was the day before the race, before bike check in. |

You sure you didn't tick off your coach and this is sweet revenge? HaHa, I just confirmed my training schedule for next week. 18 mile run next week on Friday. Lovin' it. I guess I won't be going through any taper madness this time around (because it doesn't seem like there is much of a taper) |

I put mine in about three weeks ago. I believe it will ship to me on 9/1. Regarding swimming on Friday, as a resident and frequent swimmer in Monona, the earlier you go, the better. Boat traffic exists during the week and no matter how many people are out there they still come fairly close to the Terrace, especially fisherman. I know of at least one coach who is holding her class at 7am which means a kayak will be out there....just an FYI. |
