Elaine - the record board is the coolest thing!
Thankfully my university does not keep public records of all the stuff I was good at in college...

Whew on the transatlantic flight post Rev3 - I probably would not be able to stand up up once I landed. But at least there will be beer when you get there - that'll make it all worthwhile.

Good luck on Sunday - you are going to do awesome.

I'm in a frenzy of laundry and checklist for IM Canada.  Not sure how things will pan out but I'm going to attempt it.  Weather is cooling down to high 70s, low 80s - should be great race conditions.

Man, I had PEs beginning of a July too.  I could not fathom doing an IM 8 weeks after that....   Good luck!!!

Well, I biked 100 the weekend before last, felt good.  And spoke with a hematologist yesterday, who was ok with me going for it.  So I'll just take it easy and cruise and enjoy the day.  If I'm not enjoying it, I'll walk off.

Elaine that is wicked cool!

Hope you enjoy Rev3 Maine. I have it in my radar screen to do the AB in the future. Looking forward to hear what you think of it.

Hey team! I am back!  I had a great race but didn't get to meet any of you!!

The IM turned out even better than I could have imagined.  I am thrilled with my time, my effort, the race venue, course, etc etc etc.  I can't quite believe that I did it and it was so smooth!   I finished 13:19:17!  In my planning based on my training I had thought 13:45 would be a reasonable time but i blew it away. Obviously the cooler weather was a factor but I also did well

We had a lovely vacation - the only down side was the costly wi-fi at the hotel and the lack of it elsewhere in the village which meant I didn't get to be online as i had planned (or I would have made arrangements before) ... oh well, we had a fantastic time.

Congrats Jen!

Looking forward to hearing more about your day. Rare is it that a BTer beats there estimated IM time by 30 minutes as it usually works the other way.

I had my 7th bike fit yesterday.

Goal was to get me comfortable so I can ride. I had put on 150 cranks on last month to help with hip pain which changed whole fit as saddle height needs to be higher, which change reach and drop, ect. I also got new custom shoes that are much shorter than old shoes I bought big to get for width.

Bike fit changes:
150 cranks
Forward seatpost in 80 position, previously in 76 position
Saddle higher due to shorter cranks and different stack on shoe
Cleats rotated so toe in left like I walk and change right slightly
May need new pedals and left (unclipping side is different than R likely due to wear)
With higher saddle bigger drop w/almost flat back
Changed to 90 stem from 80 -17 to get stack higher and reach slightly longer
Moved a spacer
Played with stem length angles + stackers to figure out best change to be comfortable and not worry much about drag
Added 1 cm spacer back under areobar pads;has my hands higher relative to shifters which is awesome

Accomplished better quad angle at top of pedal stroke
less compact and more open
Raised from end to less drop -9 B4 with goal to ride not racee
Discussed hip pain...wonder if attachment point that when enlongated hurts vs when compact in aero position

Spent 3 hours with Todd compared to 4+ last years fit. He is very good and I enjoy discussing bike fit ideas with him.  He thought the 150 cranks were good choice for me. Instead of drilling cleat position farther back better to go with shorter cranks.

May need to send D2 shoes back to have new holes drilled as at max back spot for front hole in due part to shape of sole.

I had trouble clipping in because of some red walking pad/part they have on front of shoe sole which interferes with space I have to clip in.

Compared shoe/cleat placement with old tri shoes much longer hard to compare if heels or toes are even. I put one of each with ankle bones touching and found new shoes cleat farther forward which is in part why we moved cleats back in part. Not saying old way was right just want I was used to. When I first rode felt like my forefoot was putting all the pressure on the pedals and very different than previous. Todd thought that was bad.

I had my 7th bike fit yesterday....

Really happy to see you back in the saddle

I had a bike fit this week. My 3rd.

It was on a new bike. I told him that previously I was comfortable, felt somewhat aero and felt I could generate good power. I spent the whole winter dialing in the position

But rather than just mimic my previous position we agreed to start from scratch and then compare the two fits. All my angles/measurements were pretty close except he had my seat a little further back, ie rotated counter clockwise around the BB, which means a little higher in front. He also had my elbows wider.

I went to the Formula 1 track which is a great aero test road and sure enough I was about 2km/h slower on a bike that should be faster.. Felt comfortable, powerful, but I was slower.

So I went back, and switch my position to what it used to be and saw an improvement this morning. I need to do it again. It was windy today so it doesn't lend to accurate results. But taking the wind into account it looks good.

This is the third a fitter has put me into a comfortable, powerful position but at the expense of aero.

We focus a lot on fit and position for the sake of comfort and power but I wonder how many fitters truly look at aero.

I suggest people with powermeters learn to use Golden Cheetah and Chung analysis for getting a feel for their aeroness. I think people are leaving a lot of free speed on the table.

Played golf all day yesterday for my friend's birthday.  We took advantage of an all you can play deal and fit in 45 holes.  Whew.  Not too bad though...shot 31 over par.

This may have come up in all the prior posts, but... I still have two more races this year, an off distance  1/34/10 this Saturday and a HIM 9/23.   Thinking about aerodynamics.

Currently useing a stem mouted speedfil for Infinit, dark speed works-ish top tube bag for flat kit, and water bottle on the downtube.

Better to move the water bottle to behind the seat, zip tied cage a la Crowie?  Anyone done this?  Advice, thoughts, etc?  More aero than a downtube bottle?  Angels on the head of a pin?

I am concerned about ejecting bottles, but it will be water that I can replace at an aid station if it happens so not as crucial.

I think the behind the seat is more aero.  But I tape my flat kit under my seat, so I don't think I can put a cage there and still be able to get my flat kit out.  So I use the down tube.  It's simpler, and for Honu, it's challenging enough to grab a bottle from the down tube when fighting the cross winds.  In shorter races I put my flat kit in the bento box, but I use that for my gel flask in HIMs.

I need to do something like this during the fall.  However, I suck at science/math and get frustrated/make errors on things like this.  We'll see if I can actually make it work.

I haven't taken advantage of this as most of my training is on my road bike or in a group setting.  However, since I will actually have an off season this fall, I think it would be a great opportunity to tinker around with things and do some analysis using GC.

Did you guys see IM Canada is becoming Challenge Penticton?

Town is going to control race and hiring Challenge to put it on. It broke today and wonder how and if that will effect the race this weekend?
