Am I looking at this correctly?  I am looking at the bike course pdf from IMAZ website and and I see 4 aid stations and with a loop course you hit them twice per loop.  That adds up to 24 aid stations!  Seems like my sero bottle and rear cages are more than enough...def not putting on the down tube cage.  Considering racing sans aero bottle with that much aid.

thoughts...what are you packing.

I only have a "need" for a very thick bottle of Sustained Energy...other than that I am fine with gatorade, my gels/bars/salt tabs and water.

Think again. As I recall, counting out from the start, aid stations 1 and 3 are available on the outbound loop, aid stations 2 and 4 (the turnaround station) are available on the inbound loop (unless you want to ride into traffic ). They do not man both sides of the course at aid stations. You will ride by 4 aid stations total per loop

Correct.

I still only use two cages on my rear hydration system, nothing on the frame, and refill when needed. I also carry a gel flask on my top tube filled with 6 gels, and 2 cut up CliffBars in my back pocket.

Yes they can. You can get extra tickets at registration. If not there get to dinner early and they may have them at the door.

I will not be the fastest, most gifted, or physically strongest competitor out there next weekend, but I am confident nonetheless.  I wrote down some reasons why on my blog.  View if you like.  It's personal stuff, and won't appeal to everyone... or many not anyone at all.  That's okay.  Be warned, I'm patting myself on the back a lot... but what would a pep talk be without THAT?

I would imagine that TexasMPGal can compose a similar list.  FWIW, I cannot tell you all how honored I am to be racing alongside her (well, a few hours behind her) next weekend.

Ahhhh  definitely can't find my running shoes! I had to bust out an old pair for tonights run.  Kind of bothering me that they are missing since I live in a pretty well organized apartment and the shoes get a lot of use, not like they are tucked away in the back of a closet.

Well boys and girls..  Training is done and packing begins for some with others finished.  Dave, I will read you "list" shortly and will surely learn something about you and myself.  It's been an amazing journey for me and I am sure others too.. I came across this I wrote down, from the Kona Championship highlights from 2007.  These were the closing comments by Scott Rigsby, the first below-the-knee double amputee to become an Ironman:

"Trust me.... It's a paradise.  This is where the hungry come to feed..  For mine is a generation that circles the Globe in search of something we haven't tried before, so never refuse an invitation; Never resist the unfamilar.  Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience, and if it hurts, you know what, it's probably worth it.  You hope and you dream but you never believe that something is gonna happen for you, not like it does in the movies.  And when it actually does, it lasts forever"...

This IM will be my Kona and these words hit home hard for me.  If you were to sit down and talk with me , you would understand..  Like Dave posted above, you have to do some back-patting on yourself.  I am sure all of us have stories of what made us choose this sport and I know all are inspiring in their own right.  You ALL should pat yourselves on the back..  We chose, we trained, and we will finish..  I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can next week..  Stay healthy...  Oh, and it will last forever... For me...

Lori

I read your list thinking it was going to be a litany of athletic accomplishments from training this year, stuff like "I did a 100M ride followed by a 20M run brick today".  I was, of course, wrong and was surprised by the content.

As triathletes, we sometimes overstate what it takes to do an IM.  IM and tris are just a sport... a game if you will.  You are not talking about a game.  You are describing true courage and heroism.  A real challenge, not a controlled environment where there is really nothing to lose but some pride.  In your world there is the real possibility of extreme loss and suffering.  This is not the same thing at all.  IM is nothing in comparison.  I too am humbled to be on the same course with you and all the others who understand the difference.

Well said. IRONMAN has so many different meanings to people, your persepective is certainly one I could never really appreciate and thank you for sharing and for your service.
For some, IRONMAN is the culmination of many things. We all share the training load, the strains on our bodies, our emotions, our families, our lives. For some, it's an affirmation, a validation, a goal, a dream. I enjoy hearing peoples IRONMAN motivations.

For me? IRONMAN is just a race. It has some wonderful touch stones in my life as my mother was also an IRONMAN athlete and a previous World Record holder in her AG in Kona during the 80's. It's nice to share that experience with her and was very special to take her back to Kona in 2007 to see me do the same race. Now, I just want to go back as it's a fun vacation! But it's still just a race. No matter what happens on the 22nd, I know my family and my dogs will still love me...well, maybe not so much my wife as she really wants to go back to Hawaii...

Well said and a great attitude to have Though my dogs might be mad when I finally make it home that night, at being alone all day (can you say spoiled?). Speaking of which, if anyone sees a couple shaggy dogs or a St Bernard on course, they are likely attached to my peoples.

because I seem to have nothing better to do...I will make a trip to LBS and buy new tubes.  Both tubes have patches on them for the last 2 weeks...just kinda bugging me.

I am hoping the desert roads of Tempe to not contain many spurs that create hissing sounds...I do not like those and have had bad luck this past month.

The sad fact is we have far to many spikes along the roads.  Compound that with the rofers nail I picked up on the course a few weeks back and all I can say is i hope they sweep the roads well before next weekend!
