Great race execution Bryan.  That is a very impressive performance!

Good day on the bike for me this morning.  2.5 hour aerobic ride.  I stayed in Z2 the whole ride since my legs were in the hurt box from yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Elaine:  Have fun on the ride..sounds like fun.

Anybody know how Rusty did in his HIM today?

Bryan...really looking forward to the RR.  I was tracking you for a while and noticed the guy in 1st's 2nd bike split was at the same avg speed as his first split, where almost everyone else was slower on the 2nd split.  I had a feeling he would pay for it on the run.

Just goes to show how important smart racing is.  Congrats.

That ride is totally doable Elaine.  Just a long sustained uphill.  Just get into a rhythm and go.  And well, the decent simply rocks (although there are parts you have to put effort into still on the decent).

Just finished my post call run. Didn't feel so hot. Probably going to be on call on Thursday too this week since one girl dropped out of the rotation. Not happy. Thinking about not doing a HIM this season and maybe focusing on doing an OWS race and An Oly instead. Still waiting on Cali 70.3 registration to open for next year. Does anyone who did it this year remember when it opened last year?

I may be stating the obvious, and everyone probably knows this, but if you don't,...  Bryan DUnn has never raced an IM (and he's done a few) where he didn't qualify for Kona.   I find that quite amazing and unbelievable.  Well done Bryan.   Had a good friend that said it was the hardest IM he's ever done, and he's in your league having been to Kona 3-4 times.  It kisked his a$$

Like others, just feel tired and unmotivated this weekend.  Slept in today until about 9 then went to breakfast and food shopping.  Decided to get out for the run about 11:30 and went 8 hilly miles, but it was a tough slog

yo! I am here! In the mountains with no Internet and one tiny little bar on my cell phone. Bryan - I passed it on last night, but I'll say it again - that was an incredibly inspiring performance you put in yesterday. During my race today I kept thinking, "well it could be worse, I could be at IMSG. It was all the talk in pre-race transition this morning.

Fantastic race for me today - off the AG podium, and I honestly have no idea how I placed. Immediately after I crossed the final mat I got focused on cheering my wife (first HIM for her in 17 years!) across the finish line. It was a deep field - all the regional fasties came out, and a buddy of mine said only two guys finished in under 5 hours. I was in the 5:34~5:35 range with a pretty good swim (for me), a very conservative bike, and a decent run (again, for me). My buddy was 3rd in our AG at 5:18, so that is how I know I was way out of the money. Will post a RR when I get a real Internet connection, but I can tell you if you happen to find yourself in North Georgia this time next year you do not want to pass this race up. Incredibly challenging, rather unique, honest and fair course. Beautiful, awesome roads, and the best volunteers I have ever seen at a race, including IM. this one is done right!

Edited stupid iPhone auto correct stuff.

40k TTT was a lot of suffering...or at least 14 miles of it for me.  The other 3 members (3rd man's time counted) finished in 55:30 in some brutal wind conditions.  20-25 mph steady crosswinds with higher gusts.  Time was good enough for 2nd overall, missing out 1st by 8 seconds.

I was pretty disgusted to find out we lost.  I knew we were doing well when we hit the turnaround averaging 29.5 mph, but once we hit the headwind, I just couldn't hang.  It didn't help that I got stuck on 2nd wheel behind our strongest rider, who's 5'4" and about 120 pounds soaking wet.  Anytime I got stuck behind him, it was like I was pulling.

Wow, catching up this morning.

Bryan - that is a kick-butt race - congrats on the AG win and going to Kona - again!

Rusty - nice job on your HIM - how are you feeling today? How did your wife do?

Anyway, I sucked this weekend. I took friday off specifically so i could do my long ride before heading out for a full weekend out of town related to my sister's wedding.  Well, it was a nice day so i didn't immediately hop on the trainer to gut it out - seemed wrong given how nice it was but the roads were still really wet since there were storms over night.  I did a few errands, picked up the rental car and then it was too late. Gah.  There's something about the cut back weeks.  I still need to do the workouts even if they are shorter - cutback week is not 'take the weekend off'

Oh well, the wedding-related trips are over for the time being and i can be home for a few weekends.  I have to admit that I am completely wiped from it all.  With going to my hometown for my mom's stuff and organizing wedding showers and activities i haven't had the most relaxing time ever. I expect to be tired from training but all the rest takes a toll.

Back to training today - with group swim tonight.

Weight - ugh, bad choices and a lack of training this weekend means i am back to 125 this morning.

I am taking a rest day today as my legs are blown up from the biking over the weekend.  Pretty good last week of training and I am pretty happy with where I am at 5 weeks out from the race all things considered.

This will be a bit of a stepback week before the last 3 week build before taper.  I am racing a 10k on Saturday and looking forward to seeing what I can do there.  I am pretty giddy to race.

I have an incredible urge to ask Bryan in his tread how much CF he did to prepare for his IM (I was just in the strength training section) but I would hate to derail an extremely good thread.  Tongue out

Fred D - 2012-05-08 5:10 AM

Morning everyone.

I did swim briefly this am with a PB and it was 'meh' but I got it done. Definitely in a low place for training with injuries. Trying to be positive, but struggling.

BT tri talk is also in a very low place for me recently. There seems to be a break down in discourse and moderation IME. I never expect everyone to agree with my (strong) opinions, but there has been a rash of posts that strike me as intolerant, baiting and completely outside the range of what is considered good 'triathlon' discussion.

Honestly the moderation here is usually much better, but the fact that the thread making derogatory remarks about gay people and the thread Tom D. suggested weight loss for someone already pretty thin just continue to carry on makes me realize BT is becoming a different place than it used to be.

My suspicion is that my injuries have made me more sensitive to the 'crap' that goes on in the forums.

I see a self-imposed 'BT-break' coming up in the future for me, but as always will support the group here.

Apologies for the rambling.

I made a rule for myself that I don't look at threads started by certain people on this site. It generally always gets me annoyed and I've decided I don't need to spend my energy there. I guess it doesn't help the site by remaining silent though....don't know what thread the remarks about gay people happened in but there should be absolutely a zero-tolerence for intolerance, IMO. I think maybe moderation has been eased up on a bit since all the backlash when there was a huge string of threads being pulled. Just my thoughts on that issue. I'm also feeling a bitlow training wise and blaming it all on school right now. Did a 6km run yesterday and I was done. Think most of my struggles are mental these days though. It's impossible to do all that I want to do right now and not have school suffer. Only 4 more weeks though. I have faith my next rotation will be better. Hang in there Fred! Hope you recover fast!

EZ 6 mile run this morning and planning on a swim at lunch.  The body is feeling better from the weekend but still had some trouble rolling out of bed.  Visibility this morning was less than a 0.25 mile with the fog so kept to the less traveled roads.

So my work gave me a gift certificate to a local running store for my 10yr anniversary.  There was no amount on the certificate.  I take it into the store yesterday to check.....$300!!  I will have one of those, 2 of those, give me a couple of those LOL.  I think I am going to load up on shoes actually since I burn through them pretty quick.  I am going to give the Saucony Kinvaras or Fastwitch a try and see.  I will run on the treadmill at the store first first but those two have my attention.  Anybody have experience with either.  I know the Kinvaras are very popular.
