I am SO EXCITED!!!  I'm going to Lake Placid this weekend, one of my favoritest places!   Unfortunately my hamstring will keep me from doing some of the incredibly fun things that can be done there this time of year but it won't keep me from all of them.  Bobsledding, here I come!  Ice skating, here I come (after all, my ART guru did ask me if I tried it yet, right?!)  Trail walking, here I come!  I may ask the aforementioned ART guru if I may try cross-country skiing, you know, like a bunny trail.  I've always wanted to give it a go and LP would be the perfect place, if I'm 'allowed'.

I would LOVE to go bobsledding. I've never been, but it looks like a blast. Same with the luge!

In 2006 when I was there for an ice hockey tournament my team and I went bobsledding and it still stands as the absolute most fun thing I've ever done.  Grinned as big as Kate's Chesire cat the whole time!  Cannot wait to do it again!

My neighbour's son is on the Canadian Olympic bobsled team. He actually has a bobsled parked in his front yard. Very weird. But kind of cool.

ooooohhhh--you guys have an evil streak....and I like it!

Great news of my day, my ankle feels great and I took it for a run in the nifty new shoes--they feel okay--not uncomfortable, but not the best ever. They'll do.

Apart from that, work kinda sucked--someone called in sick, so they put me in the bird section...and I am untrained there....and the on call keeper they are training there kinda knows the routine; but she cant carry keys yet, so I spent my morning in the bird section literally unlocking locks for this girl. that. is. all. I was SOOOO bored, I ended up counting the waterfowl in the lake exhibit (at least we know they are all there now?) In any case, there is job opportunity I may try for--reptile OR amphibian supervisor at Ft. Worth Zoo in Texas---in their State Of The Art new Reptile/Amphibian house...with Bunches of crocodilians, Komodo Dragons, Chinese Giant Salamanders, AND Hellbenders....Clint said I should apply, (the only reason I balk is that it is Ft. Worth, not a city I would prefer to live in within Texas...) I am waiting on chatting with employees there to find out what its like there (pay, morale, etc...) so, who knows?

Melanie - Lake Placid sounds like a blast!  Safe travels!

Kate - I'm glad that your ankle improved and that you were able to get your run on.

Yanti - Thanks for sharing ;-)  Does this mean that you are feeling better or are you cheering yourself up with pictures of hunks on the beach?

David - How is your back?  Improving, I hope!

Monica - Can you shower at home again?

I hope that all of the Manatees are doing well!

Me - We had some snow.  Since we rarely get much accumulation, the area governments don't invest in snow removal equipment but instead depend on the sun to make it disappear.  NCSU has cancelled classes but employess are expected to make busy today so I am in the office.  I would like to lodge a complaint about Starbucks being closed!  It doesn't look like the sun will help us out much today and I am thinking that I may be bonding with the treadmill after work.

Yesterday I stopped at the store on my way home (needed coffee beans!) and saw that they were out of kale.  Kale?  There was a run on KALE?  (ok, more likely they didn't receive the shippment due to modifiying schedules in anticipation of snow that might fall, yes, that's how we roll around here)

this is in Phuket where I spent a week training with Macca at that very spot.

great resort at Thanyapura. Macca was saying how ripped and fit the swim teams are. He has had the Norwegian and Dutch teams stay and train there.

He said they do heaps of weight work plus a quarter of their volume is kick sets. YIKES!

All well with me. I'm going through some personal stuff right now but I think I am fixing things. I am seeing a counsellor on Friday - the start of a recovery I think.

Thanks for being here Manatees.

Sunday is Challenge Melbourne.

i am volunteering as they have requested as many as possible.

The forecast is 105F that's 41C.

It is going to be carnage.

They are offering a shorter course for those that need it.

Chuckling at the extremes the manatees of the world are enduring right now.  105*F for a race?!  Yeah, that's crazy hot.

I went skiing in La Plagne in the French Alps a few years ago and one of the activities available was a go on the Olympic bobsled course.

They strapped you into a very heavily padded container and just pushed you onto the run.

I have to say it was the most incredible adrenaline rush of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As soon as we hit the first turn everyone went silent and stayed that way until the end. I have huge respect for people who do this properly!

Good luck with looking for new career paths. I am somewhat in the same boat now (as far as talking to people doing what I want to do and making connections). Isn't Ft. Worth near Plano, TX? I have a friend who lives in Plano and seems to like it. Not sure how much of a drive that would be though to get to the zoo.
