Thanks Flyboy.  That's what I had imagined in my head, but then I had horrible nightmares of taking a number and waiting at a kiosk...

How is everyone feeling during taper?  I'm pretty tired and my legs are heavy- but they seem to loosen up once I get into my workouts.  I'm hoping all this passes and I feel better next week.

If it's any consolation to you, runnergirl, my peak week was fantastic, but my taper workout are like swimming/biking/running through molasses. I'm just going to take it really easy for the last week and sleep a lot, so I can feel fresh.

Might see y'all at the Friday swim .

As a life long resident I wouldn't put much stock in anything beyond 48 to 72 hours. Come next Thursday I will start to feel better. At this point I wouldn't rule out anything from 50 to 95. Clear to cloudy. Dry to heavey rain. Calm to 20+ MPH.

Welcome to the Inland Northwest.

I've had a few days like that too.  It makes me want to go pound out an FTP bike so I'll feel normal the next day...must resist.  By next week all will be good.

My rides feel good -- I'm able to get my HR up much better than I have in weeks, which feels good to me. My runs feel like crap. Not gonna let it get me down... just taking care of myself, trying to get lots of good sleep, eat well. Hopefully the crap feeling will leave soon enough!

Well, we both felt our first BIG freakout today taking the bikes to the LBS for TriBikeTransport......  We are bikeless until we arrive in CDA....  Last medium run and swim tomorrow...

I think we are both in on the Moose swim Friday at 8:30am....??  Is that the final verdict on getting together??

Woohoo! Finally got my DA back from the LBS after waiting 3 weeks for my bayonet fork to be replaced/repaired by Felt. My busted fork ended up being replaced and upgraded free of charge from the Bayonet 1 to the Bayonet 2 system. I can now get in my final 3-hour ride on the tri-bike this weekend and have it all packed up for the trip.

Water temp at the Cove was posted at 64 today, so I thought I'd try going out without a wetsuit.  I was cold at first, but warmed up a little after a while.  Still, after 2 miles, my toes and fingers were tingling.  I'm still a bit chilled.  At least I know I'll be able to do a 10-min preview swim w/o wetsuit if the lake temp reaches 63/64 by next Saturday.

Good news is that I didn't feel totally fatigued the whole time, which has been the norm as of late.

40-mile club ride tomorrow.  I can't wait to see if the bike is coming around, too.  Just have to remember not to leave any of my race out on the coast!

The threads are reading like everyone is tired. I know I was. Starting to feel more rested today.

My wife and I would like to meet up with some fellow BT'ers.

Are there any social gatherings planned?

Thanks,

Dean and Kim

64 degress- wohoo!  So I'm not going to freeze to death in a full wetsuit.  I hope it doesn't drop any before the race. I checked out the weather and it looks like mostly all of next week will be nice without rain

Now I just need to get plenty of sleep and rest up.  Last week I felt like crap.  I'm hoping I get my strength and energy back this week!

Sorry for any confusion, but I think you were reading my post.  64 degrees was the Ocean temp here at the Cove in La Jolla, CA.

Good news is that Lake CDA hit hit 60 today (9 feet below the surface) and with the projected warm weather for next week, it could get close to mid-60s by race morning.  I don't want to jinx us, but I think we'll be ok.  It may be a washing machine swim, but at least it doesn't look like it will be a freezing cold washing machine!

anyone ever practice taking the 5- hour energy drinks (small bottles at most checkout counters) during long workouts? I haven't but wonder if swigging a bottle in T2 would provide some benefit.
I know: don't try anything new in a race that one has not tried in training, but in reality, those of us that are new at Ironman, I have never exercised longer than 7 hours so I just don't know what my energy level will be like at hour 10-12.

spathrw - I am putting a Red Bull Energy Shot in my run special needs bag, just in case. It has 80mg caffeine. Never tried it so it's for emergency use only. I expect the caffeine will wake me up but may make my heart race a bit (usually does).

Anyone else having any taper illnesses? Last Tuesday I had a fever that broke 100 and have been on antibiotics ever since. But it's kind of developed into what feels like the beginning of a head cold or sinus issue with funny feeling ears, intermittent cough, and dizzyness/lightheadedness. Of course I'm freaking out about all of this! Luckily I can still breathe, but I don't want this to blow up into something bigger.

I've been shooting 1 or 2 "5-Hour Energy XTreme" before HIM events.  Usually I'll do one right after I wake up, and one right before I enter the swim corral.  I don't think there's any particularly noticeable effect for me, but I'll preface it with the fact that I'm particularly stimulant-tolerant (caffeine, nicotine (gum), etc).  If you're sensitive to stimulants I'd watch it, because I could see it making such a person quite jittery....and also, don't forget that caffeine is a diuretic, so you need to consider that aspect of it too.

The CDA locals are amazing. They stay out as long as we do. Everyone enjoy your chute experience. They're all cheering for YOU and if you hustle through it you'll miss the best part of the race.
