While many of us our in the deep freeze, a few of us might be racing, right?  So, who is braving the elements?  Details people!

And time for some deep thoughts,  what one thing are you going to differently in '12?  Could be tri related, but maybe not.  Think!

No racing for me this weekend.

Going coachless for 2012 (will be having that conversation later this week).  I don't think I'm putting in the effort for paying that much for a coach right now.  There are plenty of cycling plans out there I can work on, and always guys on my team to ride with.

Also the coaching money will be going towards either a new wireless power meter or possibly a new ride all together, haven't decided yet.  Big price difference between new bike and power meter but I would hate to spend money on a quarq only to find out if I upgrade my bike next year it won't work with my new ride.   Unfortunately every bike MFG is starting to make their own Bottom Bracket and I would rather not have adapters to get the crank to fit the bike.

sdalessio - 2012-01-17 3:26 PM  New IM 70.3 event in my backyard.  I heard this was going to happen.  I got an email today about it but holy cow what are they thinking doing this is August.  No thank you!

http://ironmannationalharbor.com/

I love the idea of an IM or a IM 70.3 event close enough that I can sleep in my own bed.  But an event in DC in early AUGUST?  Gonna be a little steamy.  Agree with Sam.

Man up people.  We have three HIMs in Wisconsin mid July-mid August. Heat Index was like 190F for Racine last year and neither Dino or I completely melted!

I think I came close.  Hope to never have to dump out my shoes at the end of run again!!

No racing for me, but I am volunteering at the indoor marathon for a couple of hours on Sat AM which will be fun.

Jack Handey I am not, so no deep thoughts from me. I am just trying to keep it fun and healthy for another year.

No racing here. I have two things for 2012:

1) Really concentrate on achieving my race weight, and

2) Complete all scheduled weight training sessions. I skipped too many of them in 2011.

The only racing I'll be doing is to pool when we hit Mexico on Saturday!

The one thing I will be doing differently is not giving up long weekends in Minocqua to train (or training long when there is something better to do up north).  We're structuring my training to get the long stuff (especially rides) done mid week so the weekend is left for the man and friends.

No racing. I'm down with Dino -- keep it healthy and fun and it's all good. I've done a stellar job this fall/winter staying flexible and training with friends whenever possible. Fully intend to keep that up. (That's what she said.)

No racing for me for quite some time.

Muddy Buddy just announced their 2012 race schedule...rather late.  Cut it from 16 locations/races last year to only 8 this year.  Wonder what that means.  Luckily Atlanta made the cut.  Anyone want to get dirty in Atlanta in June?

Hope it is OK to jump back in, otherwise I'll continue to lurk....I'll look for an OK from Steve, or Linda, or Suzy....and I frankly don't give a d@mn what John thinks

I have three local sprints on three consecutive weekends in June, so no way. Don't forget Smile Train is one of those races in JUne. You have to defend your podium spot from last year! ANd wasn't that your first tri ever?

anyone try this?  i'm reading some good thing...

ryan, tony, .....  lets have it.

Sorry, a bit late, I get most of my BT in at work and work has been really busy lately.

Looks pretty slick.  Kind of like the erg video's.  Very cool you can turn your computer into a power meter head unit.

You do need some sort of ANT+ hardware to broadcast, so for HR you need a Garmin.

If you want to do power a'la computrainer you need one of the listed trainers, they have 120 listed but 56 are beta and 2 are listed as (Don't Use).  Also to make sure you're comparing apples/apples between workouts you need to make sure you always have the tension and tire pressure the same.

I think paired with a power meter for power based workouts or Garmin for HR based workouts it looks like it could provide some great data to look at.  Also looks like a well thought out program.

This software looks miles ahead of the racermate software for the Computrainer, which hasn't been updated in something like 10 years.

The biggest thing the computrainer has over this is the fact that you can create workouts like the ones listed here (not as easily though) and the Computainer changes the resistance for you, harder going up hills, easier going down hills, where this would mean you have to make sure your trainer gets harder when the watts go up in the program.

If it's something on your trainer you have to manually do, it could be tough for intervals to keep changing the resistance back and forth.

I do like that everyone is using ant+, means us programming hacks can write our own software to recieve the data and make cool software like this.

Oh and creating a search for computrainers is pretty easy.  If you have a google account, go to their alerts and create an alert that e-mails you as it happens.  Enter the search terms +craigslist.org +computrainer.

You should get an e-mail everytime google index's a page with those terms, you'll get some false positives but it's pretty accurate.

awesome, thanks!  i hadn't thought about a lot of that, especially the part about tension.  hmmm.

My Doug and I have some triathlete friends that recently moved to Boulder CO.   He was a college swimmer (who would usually beat the pros out of the water) and she is a pro triathlete so we were kidding them that the cause for Chrissie Wellington's time off was to coach them.  Check out his response!!!!

". ...We can't afford Chrissie as our coach, but it has been fun kicking her butt in the water! (the wife) usually swims in the same lane as her when we are there together. I got my a** handed to me in a sling the other day by Julie Dibens, so we are having some fun with that. Outside of the pool I don't even contemplate training with these folks - they are CRAZY! "

Welcome back Stevie!

A few years back I went to an informal OWS clinic being led by Linsey Corbin in Frenchtown, MT. She was awesome, stayed with us,  and made sure everyone was OK going across the small lake. On our return, she said it was time to head back, hit the water, and was to the other side before most of us were 25 yards from shore, lol. I didn't know who she was at the time, but both Gary and I were laughing about it afterwards trying to figure out how it was possible to move that fast in the water.

Good to have you back, Steve!

Have a great race this weekend, Rachel! Enjoy the trails!

No deep thoughts or racing here either.  I'm dogsitting a friends puppy while she and her family are on vacation and he's been quite a handful.

As for my one thing; finally getting my nutrition in check.  To me, that is equal to getting myself to my ideal racing weight as well.  I've had lots of progress these last few weeks which is very encouraging.  Looking forward to reaping the benfits this summer.

Tracy; One of my college roommates moved out to Boulder a few years ago and married a lesser known pro triathlete.  I didn't realize it at the time but I saw pictures later and realized about 1/2 the guest list was fellow pros. I got a sense from her the tri community out there is very close.

No racing for me.

I'm with you guys on the fun and healthy plan for 2012.

So far, Walt Disney World, Las Vegas, let's see what's next for fun...and healthy is happy in my book and I can't think of a single thing better than all of us having good health.  Today's 5.5 mile run was a "happy feet" kind of run (in 36F-cold in these parts), quite joyous for my first run after the marathon.

Welcome back, Steve!  When am I ever going to see you at Vineman, sir?
