EZ 6 mile run this morning and planning on a swim at lunch.  The body is feeling better from the weekend but still had some trouble rolling out of bed.  Visibility this morning was less than a 0.25 mile with the fog so kept to the less traveled roads.

So my work gave me a gift certificate to a local running store for my 10yr anniversary.  There was no amount on the certificate.  I take it into the store yesterday to check.....$300!!  I will have one of those, 2 of those, give me a couple of those LOL.  I think I am going to load up on shoes actually since I burn through them pretty quick.  I am going to give the Saucony Kinvaras or Fastwitch a try and see.  I will run on the treadmill at the store first first but those two have my attention.  Anybody have experience with either.  I know the Kinvaras are very popular.

Wow, that is a super nice gift!!! Mid-year christmas!!

Okay - some posting difficulties - here - sorry for the multiple posts

Had a good swim last night.  Working on adjusting my head position in the water. We have a guest coach for a couple of weeks while our main coach is on vacation.

Went for nachos and beer after swim again - i guess it is our weekly 'treat'.

I have an incredible urge to ask Bryan in his tread how much CF he did to prepare for his IM (I was just in the strength training section) but I would hate to derail an extremely good thread.  Tongue out

I'm sorry, I can't respond right now, I am hurling a kettle ball over my head...

I have a B priority half marathon this weekend I am trying to have somewhat of a taper for but do plan on riding 1-1.5 hours after school. I just realized I have my first Tri in less than 4 weeks and have not swam more than 3-4 times this year. Need to start kicking things up a bit. Rob and Bryan's amazing performances have really helped in the motivation department.

Got in a good 6 mile run this morning and almost pooped my pants.  3.5 miles in, I though I would be able to make it home, but after 4 miles, there was no way.  Thank God McDonalds was just across the street.

Fred, I agree that Tri talk is changing a bit...but it's just the nature of the internet.  The bigger the community gets, the more polarizing the opinions and comments become.

However, I would argue that the overall information available in tri talk is significantly better than what I remember when first browsing the forums 2 years ago.  You just have to sift through more sarcasm (which I don't mind), but you also have to sift through more trolling, and posts that get off topic and more personal.

With the site upgrade, I do think there is a lack of moderation, but overall I still feel that BT is one of the better online communities.

Ha, I have had to use the desert before.  Biggest problem with that was worrying about all the animals that could cause me some serious problems

Fred D - 2012-05-08 7:10 AM

Morning everyone.

I did swim briefly this am with a PB and it was 'meh' but I got it done. Definitely in a low place for training with injuries. Trying to be positive, but struggling.

BT tri talk is also in a very low place for me recently. There seems to be a break down in discourse and moderation IME. I never expect everyone to agree with my (strong) opinions, but there has been a rash of posts that strike me as intolerant, baiting and completely outside the range of what is considered good 'triathlon' discussion.

Honestly the moderation here is usually much better, but the fact that the thread making derogatory remarks about gay people and the thread Tom D. suggested weight loss for someone already pretty thin just continue to carry on makes me realize BT is becoming a different place than it used to be.

My suspicion is that my injuries have made me more sensitive to the 'crap' that goes on in the forums.

I see a self-imposed 'BT-break' coming up in the future for me, but as always will support the group here.

Apologies for the rambling.

Wishing you a quick recovery Fred - but I know that likely is not in the cards for you at the moment, and I feel for you.

As to your possible break, you've done these before and you always seem to come back slightly refreshed and better for it.  So IMO a break may be needed - and deserved.  You contribute a lot, so the crap is going to eventually take it's toll on you.

Ryan - I tried the Kinvara's in January, and really liked how light they are.  Felt faster running in them immediately.  But - I came from a very cushioned shoe, and the lesser cushioning in the Kinvara caused issues for my calves that took almost 3 months and some panful massges to get better.

I went back to the more cushioned shoe for now, and will take it slower in making my progression to a less cushioned shoe in the future.

Good morning, just a quick note to let you guys know that I got the results of my MRI and I have torn cartilage in the shoulder that my doctor is going to take care of in a couple of weeks.  I am going to sneak in a 5K and a duathlon in the next couple of weeks to feed the need to race, but other wise it will be a slow recovery back.  He told me the swim return could be several months down the road, although the bike and run shouldn't be any where near that long.  Not a big deal, kind of a relief to have a diagnosis and a path to correct it and the races will still be there next year.

I wanted to let you guys know that I have appreciated the knowledge shared here and the other conversations and have learned a lot, I will continue to monitor your conversations.

Fred, good luck with your Achilles issue!  I hope you get it figured out!

Tough news Ken, but like you said, at least now you know and can set upon a path to recovery.

Sorry to hear.  Hope your recovery goes well.  I always like to think that things happen for a reason.  Take advantage of the time off to do some other things you might not have had the chance to otherwise.

Geez, Jason.  Those are some big numbers for your weight.  If I did the math right that puts you around 4.25 Watts/kg?
