Extreme Veteran 362 | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Very cool, John. Finally after endless requests for them in all the different discussion groups. I am planning to volunteer for this one, but no clue what would be desirable assignments. What says anyone in this group that has volunteered at IM events? Suggestions as to which assignments to avoid? fattyfatfat - 2010-11-17 5:12 PM we finally got maps! funny the thing sells out in a week months ago and we just now them. looks like a pretty cool swim although i wonder (hope) we're swimming outside the buoys on the first and second legs else there may be a few collisions! bike is one loop which i love. run is three loops, which i'm down with, through residential and a nice commercial area. the woodlands is a pretty nice area. |

Ummmmm... your crushing the bike leg in your triathlons? As EN always preaches (and everybody knows I have drank that kool-aid this year!): "There is no such thing as a good bike followed by a bad run" Just saying! I agree with Dino and it's worth considering how hard you are hammering the bike. I also wonder what kind of strategy you have for yourself going into a stand alone run vs a triathlon run? For IM, I had a very solid strategy so that when things got tough and I was totally out of it that little voice was guiding me. I didn't have that for HIMs and my results show it. To be a great triathlon runner, I think your mental toughness has to be very high, especially as the distance increases. |

I collect and go through at least 3-4 pair per yr and I hate throwing them out. I've usually just keep the last pair as a walking shoe or general workout shoe but I still have 6 pairs in the closet.. Do you donate them? Both our local running stores take the shoes if there is some life left. Also Nike has a program that takes any running shoe and turns them into rubber bits used to resurface tracks and outdoor courts. Search for Nike Reuse program. that's pretty cool, if only all the running shoe companies did that. I just found out that goodwill will take them if they are in good condition. |

Do you donate them? I was at the local New Balance Shoe store last week. They have a bin for old shoes. Any brand any condition. The shoes are sent to 3rd world countries where people have no shoes at all. Costs nothing and puts our "worn out" shoes to good use. |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! fattyfatfat - 2010-11-18 10:49 AM doug how's the pt coming along? It is a challange. I am not used to not being able to do something. But I want to try and solve the source of my issues and correct all the problems that grew out of it. My right leg is about 1/2 inch onger than my left and I have poor balance due to weakness below the knees. I am doing drill daily and some every other day to build up my muslces below the knee and to improve balance. Try standing on one leg on an upside down half-bonsu ball with your knee bent! Not being a Weeble I wobble and DO fall down. At least I know why my runs sucked all year. It was NOT because I went to hard on the bike! A few more weeks of therapy and we'll decide what to do next. I may try a lift in my left shoe. The hard part part to to get my mojo back and regain some focus. I think I did that last week and I am logging workouts again. Even got in the pool yesterday. Only 6 months to Knoxville!!!! Edited by DougRob 2010-11-18 10:50 AM |

Everyday Athlete has had that at times, but they've told me it's been driving by school kids and they don't really do it if someone else isn't behind it. I have so many pairs around. I think at one point I put clothes/shoes in a Re-Tex bin -- they donate and if they can't (clothes too worn out) they recycle textiles and shoes. I hate the idea of creating trash. I also give all tubes/tires to bike shops to reycle. Got a stash of those that need drop-offs as well. The $#@* just keeps piling up!! |

Said his brother is doing much better but still a high risk for a few weeks. He's spending some time with his Dad before heading back. Everyone send him some MG Love. Glen, I did body marking and loved it. It puts you in great contact with the athletes and you are already up to see the swim start. Speaking of swim starts, that's cool John! Great way for the spectators to follow along. Kind of like Western Australia's that has the long pier. (beach.jpg) Attachments ---------------- beach.jpg (34KB - 7 downloads) |

Rob-take care, glad you are spending time with your brother, we are all thinking of you. John, that canal looks a lot like the one that is connected to the Venetian hotel in Vegas, maybe we can get Trevor to jump in and swim (with his wetsuit). I am sure he would get lots of cheers. |
