Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rymac - 2012-08-27 9:44 AM Hey team - Well figuratively speaking I crashed and burned...as did most of the field at this event. It was crazy hot and humid (89 & humid) and the bike course was difficult. I was pretty aggressive on the swim and overly aggressive on the bike and I paid for it. The run was exposed and I was walking in the first 2 miles. I ended up finishing 3rd AG and 19th OA out of 150+ finishers. I considered DNF but all I could think about was bringing my daughter across the finish line so toughed it out...painful slog. Learned a valuable lesson today about pacing. Not going to get to down on myself about this one but still kinda sucks! Congrats to all racing this past weekend..looks like you fared better than me Ryan, sucks that you had a slog at the end but in the end you did what you had to do. It can be tough to accept though - you have the right attitude about not being down on yourself. You can't change the weather ... and still an amazing finish! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am back at work and back to reality. Finally posted my IM race report. Feeling a little unsure about what to do with myself now ... lots of things rolling around but i'll relax for another week before making any commitments. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Survived my morning run along the TO waterfront. Quite a few ppl were out and about so it wasn't as sketchy as I was imagining. Haha. Just watching The recap of the Vuelta a espana before heading to the hospital for a course and my emerg shift tonight. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a mini race report coming later today. Congratulations to all thats race this weekend.A brief spoiler on my mini race report. Olympic distance triathlon I placed 8th OA 1st AG. Swim was good and straight didn't push to hard. Was in the top ten times despite stopping to determine sight picture. Bike was good considering this was my first bike in over a week and a half. Hilly course 1800ft of climbing with rain so some decents were ticky. My bike split was 6 min off the fastest split. (The guy that won). Through a chain on one climb and had to dismount to fix it. Run was a lot faster than I thought would be possible. I am not a trail runner. Was happy with the pace but gave up 3 places in the last mile or so. I think I could get faster on short courses if I would focus on them. |

Look at everything that was stacked up against you and you still held your power for most of the ride. Walking a golf course in the heat can really sap you - more than you would think. You were likely dehydrated to begin the ride and then didn't have your proper nutrition to boot. I say you did well with what you were dealing with! Any chance of repeating the ride in a few days once you get yourself back to normal? Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'll do another longish ride this coming weekend and see how everything shakes out.
Neil, what FTP are you using to set your target power and what is your target power ? Is your last Oly 90% of that FTP ? Is you target 80% of that FTP ? Marc, I missed your earlier post. I did the Oly at 225 watts (NP), and was basing this off a guesstimate FTP of around 250 watts, so right at 90%. I was going into the HIM with a target of between 205-210 watts, and would likely see myself settle around 207 which would be just under 83%. |

![]() Hey all, before I post it in the pay it forward thread, is anyone interested in a free frame mount Speedfil bottle? Have all the mounting stuff, you'd just need to get a new hose and bite valve. Let me know I used it for 3-4 training rides and never really liked it. Use the speedfil A2 stem mounted now that I love. Edited by ChrisM 2012-08-27 12:53 PM |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question for all. I have not followed a plan this year for the HIM, which means I have nothing laid out for what I should do over the remaining 2 weeks. I was planning on keeping the volume and intensity at the same level for this week, and then backing it off next week - I was just hoping for some good ideas/suggestions on how that should look on a day to day basis for the week. Thanks |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Neil, like most things the "taper" can vary between individuals as to what works of course. That said I have found that maintaining intensity and frequency while reducing overall volume in that last week works well for me (for HIM). |

Personally I prefer to be a little conservative and be better on the run. Try triathloncalculator.com. I find it to be very accurate at predicting times |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() TSimone - 2012-08-26 1:19 PM So excited to check in and see that you were tracking me! That was a 20 minute PR from my race in Austin last October. Hoping to shave of three more in a month. Not having to run 0.3 miles to T1, and a flatter bike course might do the trick. Very happy with my race. Hit the pain cave around mile 4/5 on the run, and again at 11. Knew i was close to sub-6 but really have it everything i could, so I'm proud! TriAya - 2012-08-26 12:39 PM Mark's out of the water in 1:32.59. That was actually the part I was most worried about; hopefully he has a smooth rest of the day! Good to hear Mark is out of the water and on the bike. Elaine finished in 6:02 and change. Anyone have info on James? |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just got home. Other notes about the race: - I waited about 3-4 mins at the gun to avoid the mosh pit, and then started picking my way through the slower swimmers. That worked ok but I started feeling really constricted / short of breath about 3/4 through the swim. I floated on my back for awhile and tried to relax. I was debating going to hang on a kayak but shore was in sight so I pulled it in. - My Zoot Ultra TTs (both!) started losing their soles about mile 9 on the run. This pair had only 10 miles on them prior to the race. Grrr. |

As was mentioned in the last couple of pages, just focusing on some of the tiny things can make the difference on race day. |
