Very, very happy as all I wanted to do was run faster than a 1:49:47. Ryan crushed with a 1:23 (his first open half), Steve had a 1:42 (didn't get to talk to him post-race). Ryan's off to get hitched, Steve and family there as well -- very happy for them as it's a gorgeous day and it's all just perfect. More later. In search of a pedicure now, pre-haircut, pre-soccer game, pre-auction. |

Veteran 256 Madison,AL | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed I am doing a 10 mile race on saturday. I did this last year just under 2hours and felt like total trash aftewards. Muscles I didnt know exsisted were aching. I choose this race due to the proximity to my house. I also choose because it was 2 weeks after the 10k. I am shooting on beating last years time. I am going to start slow and hope to build speed as the race goes on. I also would like to keep the walking to a minimum. I think if i just walk at the aid station I should be good. This worked for me at the 10k. I am clueless about swimming. When I first started this I would just go and freestyle with no plan or anything. Now that i am on a plan I try to incorporate drills. I recently went to a swim clininc hosted by our Tri club, and they showed us some drills I now try and incorporate those during my time in the pool. Good luck to everyone else who is racing this week. |

I couldn't even watch the whole thing - it was making me queasy. No racing for me this weekend although I can getting closer to a few things. And sorry no swim tips either b/c all that said I will say that with this training plan, I've been using fins in most of my swimming. They have given me the opportunity to work on my stroke and keep my arse from dragging through the water (ie kept me balanced in the water). I do think it is helping. It certainly does not make the workouts an easier and I have done a few tests without to make sure they are not a crutch. We'll see in June if it makes a difference. But hey my swim times cannot get any worse.

I chose it because I got a free race number. I'll be running as a 37yo female. Woot!! My goal is to finish before John drinks all the beer and goes home. My plan is to take it easy, not get hurt and treat it as my long run for the week. I am interested to hear people's ideas on the swim workouts. I, however, have nothing of substance to offer on the subject.

Glad you brought it up though, because I never considered it from a liability standpoint. I'll check with the race director about that and see if they will let me submit my own forms. If not, I'll have to make a decision as to whether I want to cough up the cash myself or just scrap it. Thanks, Trev!

Chatham Ontario | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Well after Knee surgery and being in a slump I am happy to say after not running since June of 2012 that I completed my first non stop 5km run outside this last weekend. The extra 20+ lbs I have on me isn't helping but it was pain free and I sweat and it was great. I felt so good for hours after. But I am having a hard time breaking that slump and cycle after not working out in so long. Even simple runs and rides seem difficult as heck. I manage to work out for 4-5 days then I go into a slump for a week or two. Hopefully some nice weather will show up and I will stop allowing myself some excuses. I have had a rough 8 months in life in general and need to get back in the swing. I know I haven't been around much. But I am committing to completing a Sprint Distance Triathlon for June. Not race just complete. Hope everyone is well here, Kind of miss chatting with everyone and reading what is going on. I just could not do it while I was sitting still. |

I am back and I need a butt kicking. I need to set down the jujubes and chips and get my butt in Gear. 29km who runs that? What kind of odd number is that now people are really going to make fun of Canadians. I have some friends running the 30KM around the Bay in less then two weeks. That race is actually older then Boston. And it sells out so darn fast. I am thinking of driving to Boston to cheer on some friends for that weekend. Seriously need a trip and mini vacation away. Plus I think it would inspire me to see all these awesome athletes. I am a slow guy that is short and will never partake in a race like that. But something tells me there will be some MG people here running it. |

I understand what you mean about not visiting the group when you are in a slump and/or injured. The same thing happened to me a while back and then I realized I missed everyone too much to pout. So I came back, just like you. Julia, our speedy runner and swimmer is going to crush Boston. It is a great event to spectate, although a little hard to do it given it's a one way race. Maybe if you go, it'll spur even more enthusiasm for sticking to your sprint plan? Just a thought. |

I'm enjoying my swimming at the moment, my plan has a hard swim on Tuesday, easy form swim on Thursday and a longish Z2 swim on Saturday. Knowing that the other 2 swims are relaxed allows me to push myself into an uncomfortable place on Tuesdays. My form swim is one I found at the back of Gail Bernhardt's book and its my favourite.WU: 200sw 200k 200pull |
