Glad you're feeling better. Snow days? Seem like a racquet to me. If I'm at work, every one needs to be! It was 87* here yesterday and will get close to that again today before our big front comes in and knocks the temps into the 70*s. Brrr

Oh my gosh, you should hear the parents howling about it here.  If the county doesn't close the schools, they and moan.  If they do close the schools, they and moan.  Our schools were out for four days last week  to deal with 2" of snow.  The first day was in anticipation of said snow.  The second day it was good that they were closed as roads were not cleared.  That was the day the interstates were cleared but US routes and state routes were not, much less neighborhoods where buses would need to pick up kids.  The third day was icy.  Snow had melted but it was about 20 the next morning.  Friday, I have no idea what they were thinking.  Some neighborhoods might still have been icy (shady side of the street syndrome) but I ran outside that morning.

OK, that's the summary of last week.  This week they announced make up days.  Year round schools are making up their time on Saturdays because there is not long break during which the building is not being used.  The Saturday make up days are 3.5 hours because (1) that makes a six day week and (2) they have to pay overtime for bus drivers, custodians, etc.  The traditional schools are making up days on weekdays taken from spring break (including the Friday before spring break) and by extending the school year.  The traditional school parents are the ones that are in an uproar -- it's not fair!  My kid has to go to school 12 hours more than that kid going on a Saturday!  {{shakes head}}

I was going to ask Darren a question about Jantastic but I see they just clarified that.  I wasn't sure how the second field was supposed to work.  Short version, you only need to fill the distance field for your longest run.  That's what I thought but last night when I was logging my run it seemed confusing to me.

We sometimes have hurricane days and all the kids get giddy about them until they find out they have to make up the days. Then it's a fest! If I were a parent I'd be thrilled my little darling was in school longer ETA: the censors took out the bit*h in my bit*h fest !

oh my goodness, I wouldn't mind a snow day! I am sick of 100* + days. I know that before long I will be complaining about the cold. It reminds me of an old Australian poem by Jonh O'Brien called 'Said Hanrahan'. Worth a read because I think it sums up farmers around the worl not just here.

Wow - lots happening while I actually had to do work while at work, the meanies!!

Kate - fingers crossed for your new job prospect & HUGE congrats on your PR!!

Randee - looks like you had a fantastic time in Colorado - love the skiing pic!

Mel - great pictures from Lake Placid - it's never really been on my list of places to go to, but it certainly is now

Marc - love the puppy picture in the snow

As for me - the cute little furry jerks have been keeping us up at night, almost every night despite our playing with them before bed time.  Tonight is the first night of Operation No Sleeping Kitties from after work time until bed time.  They're going to LOVE us!

Today is also meet with the tax lady day if she can ever get into the office, to find out if the taxes we had to pay to Lizzie while we were living in the UK are able to be claimed back, which would be really, REALLY good.  Fingers crossed!

Very cool!  Janyne and I will be there racing this year - maybe a Manatee meet-up in the works?

One of the lawyers at work just got his new Google Glass and I gotta tell you, this thing is pretty awesome!

Almost everything is on voice command, but the piece that goes over your ear on the right side of your head is also a touch pad of sorts that you can swipe forward, backwards, up, down and tap to move between pages/applications and such.

Too bad the price point is still way to high for me to even consider getting one!

We DO have a timeline for moving!  Though we're not sure if we'll be moving that timeline up by a year or not as neither one of us is all that enthralled with spending another winter in this crapola.

Ideally, we'd like to be closer to my parents for when they live in Casa Grande, AZ during the winter - which sadly means that I don't think FL will fit that bill...  We're contemplating Austin (we may or may not have been looking at places in Austin already...), SoCal, or somewhere in AZ - just not sure which yet.  A lot will depend on what kind of job Tony can get, or if his current company would allow him to work remotely.

Wherever we end up... NO MORE WINTER!!

I am right there with you! I want to move out of the Midwest so very badly. I hate this season and I am getting tired of it. This year has been the worst in a long time. It's like winter will never end!

And because of the stupid snow and ice and cold, I have had to put the brakes on training for a bit. Yesterday coming into my house from the garage I slipped and fell on some ice that was covered by snow on our sidewalk and fell completely on my left side and whacked my head really good on the pavement. Ouch! This is bad because my left shoulder isn't in the greatest of shape anyways and now it is just terribly painful. And my left leg and my left elbow hurt like hell (I have giant bruises). I really did a number on myself. I was so sore today, I couldn't even think about going to the gym. Plus it's so snowy and the roads are so bad it makes it almost impossible to get there anyways!

Uggghhhhh will it ever be over?

On a more positive note, I have switched my schedule at work to where I am going in earlier and leaving earlier 3 days out of the week so that I have more time in the afternoons to train. Super pumped about that!

I have a shoe question for you all.

I am yet to find a pair of really really comfortable running shoes. The worn in pair that I have are ok but not great, my new pair (same type as my others) will probably be ok eventually but still feel a bit hard.

I know to find shoes that are good for you you need to experiment a bit but shoes in Australia are so very expensive. For example my Brooks Adrenaline's if the Brooks US site would ship to Australia then I could pay $110 for a pair (full price) but in Australia they are $250 a pair and this is fairly standard for decent running shoes. At these sorts of prices at most I can afford to buy new shoes maybe every 6 months. Also most stores here seem to have a no return policy once the shoes have been worn. Really I don't feel that I can tell if a shoe is gonna be ok until I have run in them a couple of times, so how do you get around this. Do US stores have better return policies as well as better prices or do you guys face the same problem? I don't want to end up with a cupboard full of handily worn shoes while I search for the right pair.

When I bought the most recent pair of running shoes I have, I went to a running shoe store. They put me on a treadmill to see what my form was when running and based on how I ran, they guided me to the correct section that would have shoes that would best fit my running style. Then I tried on those that I thought I would like and ran on their treadmill for a bit to get a feel for them. I mean obviously you can't do a long run, but you could spend a little bit of time in there getting a pretty good idea. Do you have any stores like that in Australia?

Wow, those are crazy prices!  You can get Adrenaline's (the current version) for around$110-120 here and last year's version for less.  Any decent running store here (or at least Florida) will let you return the shoes even after you've worn them a few times.
