Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I'm vice-Puba. My original statement was that mutlisport brick events should happen within 10 minutes of each other. I think you are OK with this. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge Okay team, I'm back in action. Got 15 min on the bike and 15 min on the wralk today. Starting small but after 2 month of basically no workouts you have to start somewhere, right? |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I had a poor session on the rollers (fell off once, dropped my chain once) but got in my miles. |

Champion 6107 Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red... | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge Morning, Hipsters! I'm making good progress on my goals...and I think I'm going to give myself an extra challenge - I am going to make my goals without the brick advantage (even though I've done one brick already and have more on the slate)...I want to hit my mileage straight up. 48.08/180 bike (with a long one scheduled for tomorrow) 16.48/70 run 1600/1000 swim (will probably hit the pool tomorrow sometime too) Hope everyone else has an excellent training day! |

Extreme Veteran 877 Pa | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I'm trying to get the time in without the bricks too, but it's nice to know they are there JUST IN CASE ;-) he he I plan on swimming at lunch today, if I can, and doing a short run later this afternoon. It's a beautiful day here so far in PA. Train Well! |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I don't have any multisport races this month, and no planned brick workouts, but may have to throw one in there just for the bonus. As long as I stick to my training plan I'll make all of my distance goals, but the bonuses might help me make 110% |

Extreme Veteran 877 Pa | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I got the short run in, although, I felt like I struggled throughout. I guess I have to get used to the hotter weather. The weather is awesome. I would never complain about the heat. I love it, but I do need to get used to it :-)

Master 1675 Suwanee, Ga. | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I got 5.5 mi run in today.....doing speed work at the track. I think my coach, Dr. Death Wish, is really trying to kill me. 1 mi. w/u then 16 laps of "sprint the straights and walk the turns". Then a 1/2 mi. cool down. Now for me ...sprint is a relative term but high effort is still high effort. Frick Swimming in the A.M. Trying to get another 1000 yds. in. Woo Hoo Steve |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I would like to get to my goals without any bonuses this month. I don't have any multisport races. If I do any bricks, I don't think I'm going to claim the bonus. Today I had an hour long OWS practice. I'm doing a camp to focus on different skills for OWS. I worked on drafting this week and there are more details in my log for today. |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge They are predicting tomorrow morning as 63F and 60% chance of rain and Friday as 60F and 70% chance of rain. So, which day do I run and which to I swim?!? |

Expert 957 Charlotte, NC | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I actually forgot about the bonuses. My goals are straight up milage/yardage goals. I'm 4 days post-first HIM and starting to feel close to 100% again. Time to start cranking back up this weekend |

Turned out to be only a little drizzle (it's actually sunny right now, and they are now calling for severe weather tomorrow morning) so I'm glad I ran today. It was kinda a weird run. Usually I start out fast (~8:30 pace) and then get continually slower until I kick it up in the last mile. Today I started off feeling tight and sluggish and was running at a "middle mile", 9:30 pace. However, I was pretty much able to hold this pace the entire run. I'm not sure which is a better strategy. |

Master 1675 Suwanee, Ga. | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge I swam a 1000 yd. session this morning. This is only the 2nd time for me to do that distance. This time I did 10x100's Woo Hoo!! I am not much of a swimmer (which is rather odd since I used to Life Guard...(about 100 years ago) but I am coming around. I have a very good stroke, just NO endurance...but it is getting better. Yesterday I did 5.5 miles on the track with a running speed workout. 1 mi. w/u & 1/2 mi c/d. In between were 16 laps of "run the straight and walk the turns"...Tough run in 82 degrees and wind. No running today and spin class & run tomorrow. Hope everyones training is going great and be safe out there. Steve |

Steve That is true but it bothers...more like frustrates, me that it seems that none of the training for endurance that I have from any other training I do seems to help in the pool. The stroke and feel that I have for the first 25 is very good...but in about 25-50 more...everything falls apart because I don't have the strength to keep the stroke together...but it is better today that last week and will be even better next week. |

Maybe think of it this way: biking and running rely on our big, strong, built-for-endurance-through-evolution legs. In contrast, swimming is mostly an upper body exercise. So, even though your cardiovascular gains from biking/running contribute to swimming, not much else does. |

Member 21 Tuscaloosa, Ala. | Subject: RE: East Coast Hipsters - May "President's Cup" challenge A belated thanks to those who sent me some inspiration! I'm new to all this, so I didn't notice the red in my log until today. Please don't think I'm rude. I need to start reading your logs and getting to know my teammates. Everybody's totals are strong. Artemis, hope you had good news today. Even though we're setting our own goals and challenging ourselves only, the insecure part of me feels compelled to let everyone know that I'm new to this and doing my riding on a mountain bike (insert violin music here). Although it's an old school beauty (Bridgestone MB-zip for those into that sort of thing) the knobby tires just aren't that quick. I plan to put on some slicks before my first tri in June and upgrade to a road or tri bike at a later date. So, I'm really not the world's slowest cyclist. I'm comfortably in the below average to mediocre range. I do admit to being the world's slowest swimmer though! You'd almost think I use a mountain bike for the swim and bike -- because I swim like it's tied around my waist. |

Not sure where that came from. I just went to masters expecting about 2200--I felt good and started early and then kept going after class. Didn't realize till later that I was only about 200yds shy of an IM swim. I'd have knocked that out if I'd have realized that I was so close. Hope everyone has a great Friday |
