Expert 1060 Weymouth, MA | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I rode the course this weekend. Here is a very short recap of the course.Transition Areas: Look to be a nice set up. Grassy and along the water. Very convenient for spectators.Swim: Water was cold but not terribly so. Beautiful mountain vista, crystal clear water, smooth sandy bottom, and quite shallow for a while.Bike: Not a terribly scenic course (because of the 32 miles on 106). Very fair but difficult terrain. The first 12 (and therefore last 12) or so are through nice country roads and pretty hilly. Marsh Hill is tough but it wasn't as bad as I expected. It's steep but short. The next segment is a little different than I had expected as well. People say that 106 is a long slight downhill until the turn around and then a false flat on the way back. I found it to be more rollers for 16 miles out and back (certainly a net decline on the way out). I expected the 16 miles back to be a long slow grind but it was really a ton of little hills to climb with some nice downhills or flat breaks. This was pretty enjoyable actually. 106 has a long stretch of brand new pavement. It's like glass. The crew was working on extending north. There was a patch of pretty tough road that I'm hoping they get to in the beginning of 106, it looks like they will.Run: A fairly flat, well shaded course with nice views of the lake. I think I am going to like the run course. I like the idea of the two out and back loops. Lots of opportunity to see people you know and mentally you can break up the run into segments. |

I did the course in the beginning of may and they were just putting the construction signs up. Curious, how much wind did you encounter on 106? I had a tail wind on the way out, and a headwind on the way back. Of course this could change entirely by August... |

Extreme Veteran 495 Stamford, CT | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I called around a few months ago and pretty much every hotel was sold out. I was able to get a 2 bedroom condo for $250 per night about 5 miles from the race site. |

(man I got to stop procrastinating so much) Try TownePlace Suites Gilford 14 Sawmill Road Gilford, New Hampshire 03249 Phone: 1-603-524-5533 if that number doesn't work yet call Marriott's main number 1-800-257-3000 and tell them the name/location of the hotel. There may still be vacancy's because it's just opening this month. good luck -Dave |

Master 1927 Guilford, CT | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Count me in! I registered last night after figuring out there were slots still left! Not alot of notice and I've only done one tri before (a sprint a couple weeks ago), but I'll get through it and am looking forward to it. I'll be rocking a 53/39 up front with an 11/25. I may need to rethink my cassette at this point, what do you think? Time for me to start running and swimming these next few weeks! |

If you live close get out there for a reconnaissance ride! The 39/25 ought to get it done just fine though. |

There is one hill on ~mile 9 and on the way back ~mile 47 that you will need the 39 x 25. Otherwise, I big ringed it for the majority of the route, especially on Route 106. |

I am definitely looking forward to making the leap over to NH for the Timberman Ironman 70.3 in a few weeks. This will be my first half, and while I am pretty nervous, I couldn’t be more excited! My plan all along has been to just complete this event! |

Member 29 Arlington, TN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Quick question......since registering....I have not received ANYTHING from these guys (either email or any kind of package). Have any of you all? I signed up from work one day, and have since changed jobs, and I worry that they have been sending emails to my old work address. I bet I need to contact someone ------ for training today -- set out to do 13 mi run today, got about 10 k in it and died.....very hot and humid here in Northern VA today Oh well, hydrate and try and do a few more miles tomorrow. But -- getting light headed when running and sweating profusely (more than normal) I figure is a signal I should stop and take a break for the day. |
