Anyone else spotted that Miranda Carfrae and Craig Alexander will be racing this year ?

http://www.tricolumbia.org/events/?eid=2

Gives us all a couple of people to chase down then ... Wink

Adrian

Miranda has raced E-man a few times before.

She has raced a few times before.  Ran Natasha Badman down one year.

This is my first EM and Have a few questions for those who have run it before.

1. is this a beach start? Does it start in waves by AG?  Mass start?

2. Is T1 and T2 in the same location?

3. how are the aid stations both bike and run?  How often? what is provided? Do the water bottles provided fit in cages?

4. How is it for spectators? my wife will be there and want to give her info on what to expect.

thanks all i can think of for now

It's an in-water start.  You walk down a boat ramp and into the water.  In waves, by AG.  The bigger AGs may have multiple waves.  Smaller AGs may be grouped together.  100-200 per wave if I had to guess.

T1 and T2 are same location.  Great Marsh Park, Cambridge, MD.

Aid stations on bike are water/sports drink.  Approximate mileage for aid stations are 10, 22, 30, and 42.  Run is every mile.  And they are loaded up with water/sports drink/pretzels/ice/gels at a couple of them, etc.  Water bottles fit cages.  Sport tops.

Seems like most all spectators stay in the vicinity of Great Marsh Park/transition.  The bike course is pretty remote.  The run course winds through neighborhoods and back roads.

Thanks I was looking at the bike course map and I think its the worst map I've ever seen. Anyone have a link to a map my ride or something that gives a better idea of the bike ride?

EDIT:  Nevermind I found it.. Google is a wonderful thing

thanks!!!

Not to be to out of line... but most of the questions you have asked should be addressed on the race web site and in the race info section.  Good luck.

A lady cut me off last Wednesday and I went over my handlebars at about 30 MPH trying to keep from slamming into the side of her SUV. I'm sore in places I had to rent just to be sore in.

This is not my most trained for race. I just wanna make time cut offs.

BUT tomorrow is the six pillars ride on the course. Should be a good indication of how things will go.

Definitely getting stronger but hope to "top off the tanks" and tweak the gears in the remaining 39 days (gulp).

Getting there.  Now just need some heat to get acclimated to the blast furnace/surface of the sun/Cambridge, MD in mid June.

Roger that! Hope for pleasant temps, low humidity, and light winds for a fast course! Wait, this is Eagleman, right? Okay, nevermind. Never get those conditions ;-) Actually, other than the 25 miles of headwinds on the 2nd part of the bike in 2009, wasn't bad conditions then. So, there's some hope.

Training is still going okay for me but lost my readily available indoor pool options starting late last this month due to simultaneous renovations at all pools and lasting from then through the entire summer. So, not sure how my swim is going to be. But, compensate by all the bike and run training I'll be doing this month. So, what I won't be able to do in the swim, I'll be able to speed up on the bike and then even more on the run :-)

DanielG - THAT sounds painful! Good thing you are just sore and not more seriously injured! Hope you heal quickly.

Happy and safe training!

Yup, lost a lot of skin in various places, bruised ribs and such but nothing's broken and the helmet did exactly what its supposed to do.

Being there is a damn sight better than the alternative for this race

I'm almost ready to go.  Swim is ready.  Bike is ready.  But I still need about 3 more long runs before I feel like I'll be ready to roll.  Luckily I have just enough time to get them in.

As for the heat, I'm thinking South Carolina has to be worse.  I'm not all that worried.   Now let me go find some wood to knock on.

As long as the water is warm and the sun is shinning I do not care about anything else really. I did collegiate nationals the other weekend and the water was 56 degrees. Even with a wetsuit and a double cap, I was freezing. I thrive in the heat

My run is pretty much there, but I need to do a few more long rides on the bike and a few bricks too.

The swim is what it is, not to worried about the swim.

I rode the bike course Saturday. Quite a bit of it was brand new asphalt. Holy cow was that nice. There are a couple miles of chewed up road but not all that bad. Wind, wind, wind. Woof! Wasn't bad on the way out but out of the six 10 mile sections two of them were almost all headwind. That's near the halfway point and again at the 3/4 point. This was roughly the same time of day as we'll be riding so I cannot see where it would be much different, only perhaps hotter.

Nice ride. Very nice ride.

Do you know if Smithville Rd was repaved (mile 22-28ish)?  That was a bouncy bastard last year...

when you say windy, do you mean that it is windy enough to not use a rear disc wheel?
