Subject: RE: PUSH UPS AND ABS CHALLENGE FOR DECEMBER!!tnickerson - 2007-12-02 7:25 AM Since we have some very fit and talented people in this challenge, I have a question for you guys. (don't think this is terribly off topic, we can move it if you think it is)
What is the difference (result wise) between a crunch and a situp. I have a hard time cranking out 30-40 situps in a pop, but can do 100 crunches without too much problem. Is one more beneficial than the other for the abs? Here's one researcher's opinion: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3160355.stm Crunches will isolate better...Situps will include more of a chain of core muscles, including hip flexors. As in anything, variety is the spice of life! One of my clients for a long time couldn't do a single situp, even with her feet being held. She can now do 3 sets of 20, without anyone holding her feet. I try to include a little bit of everything on a continual basis. addendum...I think from the same researcher...good info, IMHO: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2003-08/mcog-rpv081503.php Edited by Mimir98 2007-12-05 10:34 AM
