Back to back days for me, consistency is my weakness. So a nice challenge like this might be just what I need.

I clearly overstated my pushup ability in my original goal.  After tw days on and one off, my elbows are shot.  In order to get the long term benefit from this challenge, I am reducing my 1st week pushup goal to 3 x 15 for 5 days.  I will still increase by 5 per set per week and my crunches will not change.

What is the first/ last day of the week for this challenge?

I got a late start and want to be sure I complete my first week on schedule.

tnickerson - 2007-12-02 7:25 AM Since we have some very fit and talented people in this challenge, I have a question for you guys.  (don't think this is terribly off topic, we can move it if you think it is)

What is the difference (result wise) between a crunch and a situp.  I have a hard time cranking out 30-40 situps in a pop, but can do 100 crunches without too much problem.  Is one more beneficial than the other for the abs?

Here's one researcher's opinion:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3160355.stm

Crunches will isolate better...Situps will include more of a chain of core muscles, including hip flexors.  As in anything, variety is the spice of life!  One of my clients for a long time couldn't do a single situp, even with her feet being held.  She can now do 3 sets of 20, without anyone holding her feet.  I try to include a little bit of everything on a continual basis.

addendum...I think from the same researcher...good info, IMHO:  http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2003-08/mcog-rpv081503.php

Well...two days down and 1 to go.

My arms feel like they have a life of their own...one that does not include me or my brain.

And the way my abs feel...well lets just say that while I was bent over getting my shoes tied this morning I looked around on the floor and said to myself...**Is there anything else I can do while I am down here and save the effort**

Hope this challenge is helping others as much as it is me.

Well I am sure I will get the "Your Disgusting looking" and the "You look anorexic" comments from daughter and wife,  But other than that I think this will be great.

I know it's a bit late, but I'd like to join! It's crazy that I've been complaining about my baby belly all year, but haven't made time for crunches. Somehow, this one post will motivate me to actually do something!

My goal is:

200 crunches per day...working up to 300 by the end of the month
10 pushups, 2x per day...working up to 20 pushups, 2x per day

Thanks for starting this!

Checking in -

Days 1-5 I did my crunches & pushups as promised (and I'm already able to tell that I'm getting better!)
Day 6 I did one of my 2 weekly Around the World workouts.

Today - I'm supposed to do another Around the World, but I may shift that a bit...and just do 3 times next week so the total month count is the same.

Looking forward to the increase in reps...

Just checking in, and I'm sorry to report that I've already fallen behind.  I'm supposed to do everything three times a week, and I've only done them twice this week.  On the positive side, I have done the required amount of reps each time.

I'll do better next week.

Week One is in the books.  I never would have made my original pushup numbers, but cutting back for sessions 3-5 made it seem like it was doing me some good.

Week 1 totals 600 crunches and 315 pushups.

Week 2 is 5 x 3 x (50 crunches and 20 pushups).

Go get 'em everyone!

Missed yesterday and needed to double-up today to make the cutoff!  WHEW!

I finished this week -

4 days @ 2 x 20 abs and pushups, (actually 2 days, and the 3rd day was double-up).

Total:
  Abs - 160
  Pushups - 160

Upped my goal once and probably need to do it again.  At least for PU's.

 PU:

450 / 2250

Crunches:

720 / 3900

**Note to self...** I think my goal numbers may not match those on the spreadsheet, I'll wait and see what I need to fix...
