Subject: RE: Loving every mile aka L.E.M.lrunfit - 2008-01-04 5:30 AM Planning on going for 4-5 later on. What about everyone else?? Ok age group people - I guess I am one of the youngest but as you hit the top of that 34 age group you have to contend with they young uns. Although I heard that 35-39 is even harder. Is there nothing to look forward to as we get older??? Of course! Remember? This is supposed to be fun! And there's TONS of that to be had. Besides, most of us will never be quite good enough to win our age group - well, except maybe these ladies: A few months back, Runner's World did a great article on marathoners. There was this 85 y.o. lady who had recently "cut back" to half marathons, and she laughed and said she won her age group just by showing up. I thought she was great. I hope when I'm 80-something I'll have to "cut back" to half-marathons too. The training time was just too much, cut into her day. Oh, and check out the 76 y.o. nun that keeps completing Kona - she didn't even take up running until she was 47, and she's done 34 IMs, not just 34 tris, 34 IMs. Again, I hope I'm able to still think about doing Kona when I'm 70+. That's awesome. Of course, she isn't keeping up with Desiree Ficker, but hey, only one other person did. It's all good. |
